Chapter Text
Once the elevator door shut, the toons turned towards being silent. As always they were running errands and heading downstairs for fulfillment in which they’d earn more supplies after they began to ran low as per usual.
Sprout looked around at his teammates, he picked some of whom he thought would be the most productive in their run today. Of course he couldn’t leave out Cosmo, he always brought him along for anything they could do together. The rest of them consisted of extractors; Shelly, vee, soulvester, and looey. Of course the distractor was pebble and looey was the backup for any trouble they ran into. Bassie, however felt out of place. The basket found herself to not of any use at first, she struggled to extract, and her speed did nothing when it came to the other toons that could do much better than her. Of course she’d never mention that though. She spent the first floors walking around, seeing if anyone needed help.
They reached low enough to floor 16, bassies inventory was filled with heals, which helped her feel better about helping out, as she was able to hand them about to Cosmo whenever he ran out. “QUICK COSMO! PEBBLE NEEDS A HEAL, I’m ON COOLDOWN!” sprout yelled as pebble slowed down and barked while gathering twisteds. Cosmo threw his heal, immediately hitting pebble and regaining his heart.
“Wow , you’re really good at this..”
Bassie sputtered out as she passed Cosmo a bandage. Cosmo shrugged “im pretty used to it now.. haha. Thank you Bloomington .” Bassie smiled “I wish I could help the same way you do around here.” Cosmo stopped to stare “well I’d say you’re helping just enough, thank you for your time to be here.” The Swiss roll waved as his name was yelled once again, this time sprout getting hurt. Bassie turned her head before walking away. A red light caught her attention, she walked over and pressed her hands onto the steel wheel, she gathered strength to slowly push it into filling. The machine seemed to be one of the last ones, she pushed herself to do it.. what’s the harm one machine could do anyways..?
She was way too slow. Eventually a foreign hand grabbed her shoulder, the cold touch caused a shiver to run down her back
“Huh?!” Bassie shrieked as she turned around to see soulvester immediately pull back and walk backwards. “Ah..! my sincerest apologies miss Bloomington.. I was wondering.. would you allow me to help you out.?” The gentle but upright voice coming from his helmet, he held out his hand. Bassie walked away immediately “oh no! Go for it.. im gonna take five minutes at this pace.” Soulvester nodded and made doing machines look easy. Bassie sighed and walked away silently, to no bother of soulvester of course. The panic timer began and soulvester found himself at the other side of the floor they were on as the elevator opened. Of course, soulvesters only weakness was being slow at running. As he struggled to get by a twisted grabbed agro on him. Those inside the elevator were late to notice, but bassie had and rushed over. She handed him items to help, which to he accepted.
“QUICKLY! We only have 10 seconds!” Bassie panted as she darted towards the elevator, soulvester following behind, eventually jumping into the elevator after her.
“T-thank you miss.. Bloomington…”
soulvester said, his hand on the elevator wall as he regained his breath
“It’s my pleasure, anything to help you out.”
Bassie smiled to herself, happy she was able to help. She wiped a sweat off her forehead, the others now noticing how late they were.
“You guys good?” A robotic voice asked, vee stared at the both of them on the floor. “All good here no worries.!” Bassie responded hazily.
Soulvester caught himself staring at bassie, although he was more than just grateful, he was honoured to be saved. He wanted to thank her properly.
“You didn’t take any damage right?” Sprout murmured, grabbing soulvesters arm and helping him up.
“No, I appear to have been to no harm. Soulvester nodded, and bassie did the same. “Yes..! That’s true for me as well!”
sprout gave a thumbs up
dang.
A few hours later they progressed to floor 25, soulvester had just finished a machine before running into a stray twisted, and with losing stamina he struggled to dodge it. The twisted lunged at his arm and gashed him pretty badly.
“Ouch.. seems I’ve reached the last of my heals.. I must find a healer..” soulvester clutched his arm, which was dripping ichor.
Bassie eventually stumbled on soulvester struggling, rushing over. “Ah.. soulvester..? Are you alright? I have some heals here.”
He held out his arm, and Bassie inspected it. She hushed worriedly and began to silently treat his wound even though she was shaken, soulvester deeply appreciated it. Upon his arm being bandaged, soulvester NEEDED to thank her more. Bassie’s face heated up once his hands held her face.
“To what duties do I owe miss Bloomington..?” He eventually let go and knelt down, to which Bassie kept quiet. “Uhm.. it’ll be fine..! I promise you don’t need to thank me..” Bassie looked down. “Oh, such nonsense, let us complete machines together! I too, owe the pleasure of keeping you company from now on.” He got up and pulled her hand, bringing her over to two machines close by. Finishing them with her seconds later, while Bassie continued to think about how casually he cared about her. Bassies thoughts finished once soulvester completed both.
Eventually the others found fulfillment in the supplies gathered, and noticed bassie and soulvesters rather, starting friendship ? As they talked often before they finished up hours later. Returning to the surface, they all scattered their own ways.
Soulvester turned to meet bassies eyes “would you like me to walk you towards your residence?” He slightly tilted his head. Bassie nodded, smiling awkwardly. They talked about casual things as bassie made her way home. Once outside her little regarded area. “Goodnight miss Bloomington.”
soulvester bowed, Bassie chuckled. “No need for that soulvester. Goodbye until we see eachother again! She headed in and closed the door and happily skipped to her room.
At last, she made an impression on someone.
So why did she feel so warm about it?
