The Pep Talk

Summary:

My name is Pawbert Lynxley. And tomorrow, I'm going to earn it.

(Zootopia 2 spoilers ahead)

Chapter Text

So this is it, right? No turning back now. Injector primed, enough spare venom to take down a rhino 10 times over... Why do I feel like I'm missing something? My paws are trembling! Am I afraid? I mean I am essentially taking on 2 people by myself, along with anyone else who might happen to uncover my scheme along the way. Am I really equipped to handle that?

Damn right you are. You're a Lynxley. Daddy didn't raise a loser. Did he?

Well...

Inside that weather wall, history is waiting for you to save it. The Lynxley family has clawed its way up for everything we deserve. Why is this snake... and this rabbit, so hellbent on getting in the way of what's worked for a whole century? Do they think they're better than us? Has no one taught them that they're lesser beings?

Lucky for them that lesson's already on the agenda.

"Hey Pawbert, do you have a second?"

Crap... Gary. Always slithering in at the worst of times.

"Oh, hey buddy! What brings you here?"

"I just wanted to say, thank you so much for your help. It means the world to me. To my family. To all of us. You've staked your whole reputation on uncovering the truth for our sake. And for that... I can never repay you."

Just nod understandingly, maybe he'll go away. What the heck he's getting closer.

"Uh Gary? Gary! It's okay, really! Helping you on your mission to bring this truth to light is the greatest honor I could ever hope to achieve. Making a difference is what Zootopia's all about, right?"

The injector behind my back is so cold and metallic... much like the feeling of my mouth as every word leaves my tongue. The warmth in his eyes... I've never seen anything like it in my life. Cold blooded, yet so visibly warm-hearted. Doesn't help that we're face to face now. That faint glow surrounding his pupils like he can see right through me.

"Pawbert..."

His eyes right now are just wide portals straight to his heart. I've never felt this level of trust from anyone. My own heart is threatening to beat through my sweater. He can probably sense it too. What could he possibly be thinking?

"Permission... to hug?"

Oh crud.
