Work Text:

If there’s one thing that’s special about Christmas, it’s being with the people they all love the most. Things may not have gone as planned the previous year for the Guardians of Light, but this year was much better with so little activity from the forces of darkness. Christmas Eve was the day all of them got together for a great feast and party. And not a whole lot of the worlds they visited get a lot of snow during that time of the year, but they all visited them to feel the holiday magic. After spending so much time with each other throughout all of the season, they all prepare some time back at their homes for Christmas day.

Christmas on the Destiny Islands was a special one for Sora and Kairi living in their apartment together. The two have thought of a lot just like their friends every year. And they’re looking forward to their future as the two are preparing for the birth of their first child ever since Sora’s birthday, and their wedding is only less than two months away.

After the fun on Christmas Eve, the two slept together in their bed and they both look forward to their time together. The Sun is shining bright behind the snowy clouds as it slowly falls to the ground. Kairi is up bright and early while her fiance continues to sleep. She heads to the kitchen to pull out the Christmas cookies that were being kept in the cabinet after being baked a couple of days ago. She then starts cooking Christmas breakfast for the two of them. Eggs, bacon, paopu fruit shaped pancakes, along with some paopu fruit juice for the two of them. Kairi has gotten used to doing things around the apartment while carrying her baby in her belly. She also hasn’t seen much action as everyone suggested to try and avoid doing so much until the baby comes. Not to mention, it has been kept secret from their enemies for so long.

“Oh, Sora! Breakfast is ready,” Kairi called out to her fiance. She then walks over to their room and finds Sora rolling over and slowly waking up. She looks down to her belly while saying, “Daddy is such a lazy bum.”

“Morning, Kairi,” said Sora, but his voice sounded weak and like there was something in his throat. That didn’t sound normal from how she hears Sora wake up in the morning.

“Hey, are you okay? Did you sleep well?” Kairi wondered.

“I thought I did, but I. . .” Sora started but got cut off by a cough. “I think I’m sick. When I went to sleep last night, I felt a little light-headed, and I felt like I had something in my throat.”

“Let me check,” said Kairi, putting her hand on Sora’s forehead. “Oh my. I think you do have a cold. How long have you felt like this?”

“I thought it was just some reaction I had to being out in the snow for so long. But it’s gone on since yesterday,” Sora replied. “I thought it was nothing while we were at the party. But then I started getting a little tingly in my nose.” As Sora said that, he covered his face with his arm as he sneezed. What a worse possible time to have a cold. On Christmas day, and spending time with his fiancee.

“Oh dear. I’m sorry about that. If I had experienced something like that, I would’ve probably thought the same way that it was nothing and it would just go away,” said Kairi. “Wanna have breakfast in here? I can also bring in some nice hot chocolate to warm you up.”

“That would be great,” said Sora, and his fiancee heads back to the kitchen to grab breakfast and wip up some hot chocolate.

Kairi comes back into the bedroom with breakfast in trays as she carefully carries them into the room.

“Here you are,” she said, giving Sora his breakfast.

“Thanks,” Sora replied while sitting up as Kairi lays the tray on his lap. “You make the best breakfast meals.” Kairi blushes at that compliment as she sat down next to Sora.

The two enjoyed their breakfast meals, and enjoy the hot chocolate that’s keeping them warm on a cold Christmas day.

“You okay?” Kairi asked.

“Still under the weather, but all of that warmed me up a little,” Sora replied.

“Wanna head out and open presents while resting on the couch? I can also make you a soup I’ve been working on,” Kairi suggested.

“Sure,” Sora replied.

“Afterwards, you wanna watch some Christmas movies?” Kairi asked.

“You know it,” Sora answered and set his tray aside. Sora slowly gets up, but he still feels a bit unbalanced with his cold. Kairi gets up and reaches her right arm around Sora’s waist, and his left arm over her head. “No. Please. I don’t wanna get the baby sick.”

“The baby will be fine. It’s the sick daddy I’m worried about,” Kairi replied as she carried her fiance into the living room. Kairi then helps lay Sora down onto the couch and lays a blanket on him. Kairi then goes to the kitchen and starts making her soup recipe for Sora. Kairi also sets her gummiphone to play some Christmas music.

“Oh. Hey, Sora, you gotta feel this!” Kairi called out just before finishing the soup and walked over to Sora. She places Sora’s hand on her belly as the song Rockin Around the Christmas Tree plays on her gummiphone. “Wait for it.” As the lyrics play again, Sora feels some small bumps in Kairi’s belly.

“Wow! Look at that! Got some rhythm there,” said Sora.

“Yeah. She does,” Kairi replied, rubbing her hand on her belly. “I’m excited to have our baby and start a family.”

“Yeah. Me too. When do you think she’ll be delivered?” Sora wondered.

“Well, after at least 9 months of pregnancy, I think maybe either the end of next month, or maybe Valentine’s Day,” Kairi guessed.

“Valentine’s Day is also our wedding day, isn’t it?” Sora asked.

“Oh yeah. Imagine that. Our baby being born on the day we’re getting married. I just hope I don’t go into labor during our wedding,” said Kairi. “Honestly, though, I feel like it’s gonna make our job as Keyblade Wielders a lot harder as long as there are still forces of darkness out there.”

“Yeah. I can see that too, considering that it’s already been hard keeping this a secret,” Sora said.

“Not to mention, they already know about us being engaged,” said Kairi. “We’ve kept this hidden for so long, but it’s only a matter of time. I’m not so sure if we can handle this. I want us to live happily ever after, but what if it’s not really possible, especially after everything we’ve been through?”

“You don’t think we can handle this after handling so much? Kairi, nothing has ever stopped us from being together. Whatever happens next, we’ll handle it together. I’ll always be by your side. Whatever that means, I am with you. There will always be a Sora and Kairi,” Sora reassured his fiancee.

“What would I do without you, Sora?” Kairi asked.

“You’ll always have me,” Sora replied and smiled. Kairi looks up and notices the mistletoe right above the two. Sora looks up at it and looks back at his fiancee with a worried expression. Kairi smiles at him while turning her head slightly to the right. Sora then smiles and lets Kairi lean in to kiss him on the lips. After kissing for a few seconds, Kairi stands up to grab Sora’s soup.

After a few minutes of opening presents and having soup, the two get down to their last two presents they got for each other. Kairi grabs a small box and slowly opens it. She then sees a small pendant in the box that has a star shaped like her wayfinder with a few small thassalla shells on each side.

“Sora, did you make this?” Kairi asked.

“Yeah. I made a small version of your good luch charm, and found a few sea shells around it. I wanted to make something that represents our connection, and our love,” Sora replied. Kairi smiles while shedding a few happy tears and putting it over her head and around her neck. Sora then opens his small gift from Kairi. He opens the box and finds a small little necklace with a few words carved into it. “It says ‘Sora, you have a heart unlike any I have ever seen. It shines so bright that can lead anyone out from the darkness. And your smile is so cute and bright that warms my heart. Don’t forget, that’s who you are, and never lose sight of that. I love you so much.’ Kairi, thank you so much.”

“I also wanted to show you how much you mean to me. I know it’s not much with how small it is, and the message I had written on it,” Kairi said.

“Kairi, this is amazing. I’m very happy for this. Small or big, it doesn’t matter. I love anything you give me. That shows how much I mean to you. And how much you mean to me,” said Sora. Kairi smiles and places her hand on Sora’s chest, and he places his hand on Kairi’s face.

Hours passed, and the two watched their favorite Christmas movies together, including some of the adventures their friends Mickey, Donald, and Goofy went through together. They sit on their couch together and hold each other tight. They’re also enjoying their Christmas cookies that they made.

“How are you feeling?” Kairi asked.

“Feeling a bit better. Thanks for taking care of me,” Sora thanked.

“You’re welcome, my love,” Kairi replied while kissing Sora on the cheek.

“Kairi, do you think I’ll be a great father?” Sora asked.

“Where did that come from?” Kairi wondered.

“Well, just seeing how Goofy and his son Max interacted with each other during that Christmas time, and from how Goofy talked about him and Max, I wonder if I’m actually gonna be a great father. I believe that you’ll be a great mom, but I’m not so sure about me,” Sora explained.

“Sora, you are the bravest, most selfless, sweetest, determined, and kindest guy I know. I know you’re gonna be a great father. Besides, you have me, Riku, Goofy, Donald, and Mickey as well. We’re all gonna be here for you. Every step of the way,” Kairi answered while placing her hand on Sora’s hand. The two smile at each other. “Hey, how about a nice warm bath to end the day?”

“Will you join me, please?” Sora asked. Kairi smiled right back at him.

Some nice warm water runs through the faucet and into the tub and bubbles are filling up. Clothes have been folded and placed aside. Sora is laying against the end of the tub while taking in the warmth. Kairi is standing outside it with only her bra and underwear on.

“All nice and warm?” she asked.

“Yep. Nice and warm,” Sora replied.

“Open up a bit so I can join you,” said Kairi while removing the rest of her clothes. Sora moves his knees to both sides of the tub, allowing Kairi to climb in and sit infront of him. Kairi leans on Sora’s chest while being covered in bubbles. “Oh. I think the baby can feel the warm water.”

The two have sat in the water for almost an hour while holding each other and washing each other. They both even get their scars on Sora’s chest, and Kairi’s back. The two look back on how they got them, and remind themselves of how they impacted their lives. Sora’s selfless act to free Kairi’s heart from his, and Kairi’s determination to get stronger after being struck down and brought back to life.

“This is the best Christmas ever,” said Sora.

“Mine too,” said Kairi. “What do you say? Ready for Christmas dinner and one more movie for the night?”

“Sure,” Sora replied. Kairi reached for the drain and started draining the water. The two climb out of the tub and dry themselves off.

Sora and Kairi then got into their new Christmas Pajamas. Sora’s is red with black stripes with blue snowflakes in a pattern. Kairi’s is pink with black stripes with white snowflakes in a pattern as well. The two head to their dinning room where they have some turkey, ham, as well as leftovers from the Christmas Eve party they brought home. After having a bit of their dinner, they took dinner to the living room to watch one last Christmas movie.

“This is amazing. Felt very magical. Almost like I was with you on a train ride like that,” said Kairi.

“Yeah. I felt it, too,” said Sora while hugging Kairi.

“I even got one of best Christmas presents this year,” said Kairi.

“Which one?” Sora wondered.

“Letting me take care of you,” Kairi replied. The two then get up and headed to bed. They lay down right next to each other with Kairi on the right side of the bed and laying on her left side. Sora lays on the left side while laying on his back for Kairi to rest her head on his chest. “Merry Christmas, Sora.”

“Merry Christmas, Kairi,” Sora replied, kissing Kairi on the head. This Christmas may have been a bit under the weather, but the two always managed to make the best of it, and they made it one of the best Christmas ever.

Notes:

I didn't think I would write any stories that take place within the timeline of my Data Greeting stories on my YT channel. I thought about it, but I didn't think I would ever get any ideas that I think would be fun. It was until I got inspired by PhoenixDowner's fanfic "What Really Matters". And with Christmas coming up, I thought about writing a story that takes place shortly before my Valentine of Darkness Data Greeting. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
