Chapter Text
Little League Lake has always been our lake, we gave it the name after all. We’ve been calling it that since we were 8 years old, ever since we first met each other there, and gave it that name because I had found him tossing a baseball to himself lying next to the lake. That was the first thing we had in common, little league, we both played, though neither of us were very good. That’s how it got its name, and we’ve been going to this lake ever since. We were driving to it now in fact, to calm my nerves, I had just sent my college application to UCLA and I had been worried it wasn’t enough, so Bran suggested a little trip to the lake. Our playlist was playing on the old truck's beat up radio, Bran had created it for my birthday because he had forgotten to buy a gift, he felt bad but I had told him it had been one of the best gifts ever. You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift was playing but all I could hear was Bran’s obnoxious singing. He looked over at me, still singing, and gave me a goofy smile.
“You are a really bad singer, you know that?” I told him.
“Oh then why don’t you show what real singing looks like?” Bran smiled.
“No chance.” I laughed, pulling out my song book. I opened it to the page with my most recent song, the song, “This Song”, a song NO ONE can hear, especially not him. At least, not until it’s perfect. I looked up from my notebook for a minute, my eye catching the broken wishbone hanging from the mirror. Bran is obsessed with them, has one on his necklace, but I never really knew why.
“Hey Bran?" I ask
“Yeah Will?"
“What’s with all the wishbones?"
“I guess I have a lot of wishes,” he responds.
“Yeah but doesn't it make you a little bit… sad?”
“Why’s that?”
“Because… Someone always gets the short end of the stick.”
