It was the middle of autumn night, when almost all red and orange leaves fell on the ground leaving blank trees and every star was already on the sky, Charity was sitting in the astronomy tower in a green sweater.
She was humming something, toying with strands of her hair, mind almost empty, almost.
,,Burburage?” voice cut through silence, piercing. She looked at the person behind her, Lily Evans.
,,Evans. What are you doing here?”
Yeah Charity and Lily didn't like each other very much, neither one could remember why exactly. Probably because Charity didn't like Lilies sass or maybe it was her holding grudge for the moments she let down Severus or maybe Lilie was once too harsh of a potion partner.
Maybe it was something completely different, who knows.
Silence.
,,Well?” Charity asked. ,,Will you just stand here quiet?”
Another beat of silence, Cherry rolled her eyes and turned back when Lily sat down next to her.
,,Not like it's your business anyways… I just wanted to be somewhere quiet.”
Charity softened, not sure why and hummed.
,,Yeah, same.”
Silence, this time more warm.
,,Why?” Charity asked.
,,Hmm? What do you mean?”
,,People don't seek quiet dark places if there isn't something wrong. So what is it,
Evans?” her tone soft and quiet looking at Lily with big hazel eyes.
,,Nothing.” ginger girl said lightly, which was answered with a sharp look by Charity.
,,Hey, you can either stay silent or answer me but don't lie. Because even if you tried I will know it. I can read minds, you know?” Charity joked.
,,Och really? What am I thinking about now?” Lily challenged.
,Hmm, elephants doing ballet.”
,,Pf, no. Why would I ever think~ ok now I do.” Lily laughed. Charity laughed.
,,My sister.” Lily said after a while.
,,Sorry?”
,,My sister, we fighted a lot this summer, like a lot, lot. I thought maybe space would help us. Well it didn't, I sent letters, no answer. I just, I just feel alone. Everybody here has someone, Marlene has Dorcas, Marry Emmeline, Severus you. I don't have anyone here, it used to be her.”
,,Och.”
Another round of silence.
,,I'm sorry for you and your sister. Sometimes people just don't want to admit they were wrong, and sometimes that's the reason to let them go. I'm sure you will find your person, even if it takes time.” Charity said.
,,Wow. You really do know what to tell people what they need to hear. Like a dove in tragedy.”
,,Thanks Lils.” Charity said soft smile playing on her lips.
,,And you?” Lily asked. ,,You said no one goes here if they don't have problems, what's yours?”
Charity stayed quiet for a second.
,,My parents are going through a divorce. And since my dad is a muggle, I will not see him much anymore.”
,,I'm sorry.”
,,Don't be, its not your fault.”
Another beat of silence, when Lily slowly stood up.
,,I'm tired, I think I will go to sleep now.” she said a bit awkward.
Cherry noded.
,,See you soon, Burbage.”
,,Hopefully soon, Evans.” and for the first time, she meant it
