Chapter Text
Lazy Afternoon in the Cassiopeia's Academy.
Students were walking around the campus halls, playing or training outdoors, some were finishing their last classes,
and some were in many other places in this grand castle of knowledge and arts.
Layla was in the society column of both practically and theoretically most intelligent students, yet somehow throughout the year and a half was still quite unknown to others.
How strange, because she, yes she, was part of ancient bloodline of Starguardians.
She was Gracefull, Ethical, Sophisticated.
So much protentional yet fate hasn't chosen to make her the center of attention.
Perhaps it was for her own good and so Layla agreed with that. She was in fact much more better on her own.
She even has a special dorm in the Academy's observatory tower.
Well the only company she allowed to actually enter was Greta. The siren.
Somehow that girl did lure Layla's heart into her grasp, except she wasn't like that a all.
Sirens are species after all, they don't come with sewed personalities and traits.
Greta was sweet, smiley, polite, kind, observant, beautiful, funny and-
"Layla?" the voice was not so sudden but made Layla blink, waking her up from her small daydream. She glanced at her girlfriend.
"Yes?"
"Nothing you looked like you were spacing out again, not that I mind, but you were trying to explain this one spell.."
Layla facepalms herself in her head. This keeps happening way too often she can't let that slide
"Right, excuse me, we can continue now if you wish"
"There's that fancy talk again..Is it because of a soulstar?" She adds with a hint of playful skepticism
Layla let that slide with no defensive comment "I'm trying to figure thing out with this thing, just like you're trying everything possible to fix your latest grade"
Layla tells her back, bumping her forehead with a wand gently "At least I don't space out in the classes unlike you oh your pearly highness." A smile tugging on her face
Greta chuckles back "Maybe i was just concerned about you."
"Maybe i should also start being concerned about your sleep schedule. I rarely need time to regenerate but that's because of my blood, so unlike me you really need it" it wasn't such a severe problem with Greta, she just liked to stay up late sometimes
Greta chuckles, thinking about what Layla said "I was also wondering, you have a few elven features from your dad right?"
"That's right.." She glances away sheepishly, the pointy ears on the sides of her head visibly more pink from this whole conversation
Greta lays down on Layla's bed
"And you had no problem breathing in space?"
"Well my mom would cast a spell or two just in case, so I was never under a risk of suffocating or freezing or drying my eyes out."
"So you've been to other planets?"
"Yes? Several planets."
"When? Why? For how long? Did you like it there? You're like a walking space traveler."
Layla loved this side of Greta very much
"You make it sound like I'm an alien or sort of that..but no. The reason why I don't talk about it is because the experience was usually very dull. No life, no plants, nothing, and mom used to tell me to stick close to her."
"What about rocks?"
"What rocks?"
"Normal and regular rocks, like stones, you have moon stones and other space minerals"
"Greta..I'm not.THAT weird"
The sweet girl bursts into laughter. Layla smiles too, shaking her head a bit
"I'm wounded. Truly."
"Sohorry..~" Greta's laughter calms down slightly "But that's a valid question right?"
"No it's not. Minutes and hours that felt like eternity while I was dying of boredom, you think pebbles would entertain me??"
Greta continues laughing softy on the bed
"I'm gonna answer your question. No, rocks didn't really catch my interest. Sure there were a few pretty ones but mom would either take them for research purposses or tell me to leave them there."
Greta looked at her "I remember how we'd swim across the sea with my mom, I was always surrounded by some schools of tiny fish."
"At least you had some company."
"Well we'd often eat them..so it was a bit sad at the end of the day."
"Oh right."
"Well I'd also pick up some pretty shells. I remember I once even found one as big as me and oh I wanted to take it with me sooo bad and have it as my little bed."
Layla smiles, imagining the scene and the thought of it makes her chest warm up and long for those careless times
A moment of silence passes, then two
"I think I'll might be going back soon, gotta moisturiser those scales.." Greta says, as she strokes her cheekbones that had those pinkish scales and some gills under them
"Right, would you like to repeat the spell? Make sure you got it right for tomorrow or.. anything else?"
"If you wouldn't mind of course."
"Fine by me, so now, come sit up, take some deep breaths clear your mind-"
"I know how it goes" Greta interrupts her with a smile, to which Layla blinks a few times, and let's out a soft huff
"Fine, if you know the rest the go ahead and demonstrate it sweetheart."
Greta smiles, it was a non verbal spell, a new type of magic Gretta and her class have been learning, Layla of course has already mastered them very quickly
Greta tried to summon a single leaf, she grips her own wand
After that she begins to create one but it quickly scrunches and withers into dust on it's own
"Aw urchins.."
"Well that's unfortunate" Layla chuckles, raising her own wand and with a swift motion creating a leaf, that gracefully fell on the bed
"Would you like me to explain it once more for you?"
