Chapter Text
In one world, Jason Peter Todd lived in Gotham City. In one world, Jason Todd became the second Robin after stealing the rims off of the Batmobile. In one world, Jason Todd died to the Joker. In one world, Jason Todd got resurrected through the use of the Lazarus Pit. In one world, Jason Todd became Red Hood. In one world, Jason Todd became part of the Bat Family.
This is not that world.
Jason Peter Todd was born to Willis Todd and Shelia Haywood. Willis was part of the accounting department for a shipping company in Washington DC, not a small-time crook that died betraying Two-Face. Shelia Haywood was a doctor that abandoned her son, still being a disgusting crook in this universe and every other universe.
Willis struggled to raise a newborn Jason and that’s when he met Catherine Johnson, a beautiful nurse, not a caring mother that died from a relentless drug addiction.
Both Willis and Catherine were Gothamites but they had left that cesspool of a city, wanting better lives for themselves.
The three lived a good and happy life.
But Jason Todd was always meant to become part of the caped community, whether it be hero, villain, anti-hero, or anything in between.
Jason lost both his parents when he was just ten years-old, in a clash between Wonder Woman and a mutated Steve Trevor. Unfortunately, the poor man died.
Jason was put in an orphanage but instead of being a child of anger and hatred, he became fascinated by Wonder Woman.
He thought if he became powerful like Wonder Woman, he would be able to save people. Because although Jason lost his parents that day, so many other children could have been orphaned if Wonder Woman hadn’t been there to save the day.
Like in every universe, Jason Todd always got in trouble at school.
In this universe, Jason got in trouble became he was fighting against bullies and becoming someone that the weaker student body could rely on.
Jason was thirteen when he caught the eye of Wonder Woman.
There was another crisis in Washington DC, another alien invasion. Instead of running terrified like the rest of the population or being reckless by charging in, Jason knew his limits and directed traffic.
“Come this way!” Jason shouted to a terrified family. “Get as far away from tall buildings! They usually collapse during this kind of situations!”
A commanding presence, a natural gift to ease children, and highly intelligent and strategic brain.
Jason Todd was all these things and more.
Once Wonder Woman, Diana Prince, was done fending off the aliens, she found the boy that had caught her attention.
It wasn’t just his personality that caught her attention but something else.
In this universe, Shelia Haywood was a trash mother but she was also a daughter of Themyscira, born in Man’s World.
“You, Grandson of Themyscira, come with me.”
Jason Tood took Diana Prince’s hand and hadn’t looked back once in that universe.
…
“This is Wonder Boy,” Wonder Woman said as she introduced Jason Todd- Prince, Wonder Boy, to the rest of the Justice League on the Watch Tower in space.
Jason waved confidently at the rest of the Justice League, proud of his new role.
At the age of fifteen, Jason became Wonder Boy after extensive training. He held a special place in Diana’s heart, becoming her adoptive son.
Jason’s counterparts were Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark, both Wonder Girls, but unlike them, Jason was going to be Diana’s partner.
Donna Troy, as Wonder Girl, was a founding member of the Teen Titans. Donna Troy, now known as Troia, was being considered as a new member of the Justice League, now an adult and no longer a teenager.
Cassandra “Cassie” Sandsmark, thew new Wonder Girl, hadn’t completed her training yet. Diana said that she was still too young and hot-tempered. She would need another year of training before she was ready.
Jason was eager to talk to other teenage superheroes but many of them still hid behind their mentors. It disappointed Jason since none of them seemed eager to talk.
Well, there was Roy Harper, Red Arrow, the partner/adoptive son of Green Arrow. However, he seemed more like an angsty teen that wanted to get out of the shadow of his mentor.
They were only three years apart but Roy seemed so much more mature than Jason, who was content being the protégé of Diana for a while.
Sitting down, the Justice League started talking about new members they wanted to invite into the Justice League.
“Batman, have you talked to Robin recently?” Superman, Clark Kent, asked his best friend and fellow co-founder of the Justice League, along with Diana.
“Nightwing,” Batman curtly said. “He’s now going by Nightwing and no. I haven’t.”
For a second, Jasons’ heart skipped a beat, though he wasn’t sure why.
“I’m sure he’ll come around, eventually,” Diana softly reassured Batman. “He just needs some time.”
“Hm.”
Jason, who was looking at his mentor, wanting to learn about her relationship with other Justice League members, was surprised to see something in her eyes when talking with Batman.
Her words were kind, reassuring. To most, they would think Diana was reassuring a good friend of hers but Jason had seen her interact with her sisters on Themyscira when she introduced him. Her bond with her Amazonian sisters were strong but the look in her eyes…
Jason had seen Diana interact with many people, including her ex-lover Steve Trevor, but the look she sent Batman was different.
“Do you like Mr. Dark and Broody?” Jason asked Diana once they returned back to Earth, to Diana’s apartment in the middle of Washington DC.
“Of course not!” Diana insisted but the pink on her cheeks gave her away.
Jason became part of the Titans and met Nightwing, Batman protégé, for the first time.
Nightwing was… strange. There was something about him that drew Jason to him.
However, despite being the leader of the Titans, Nightwing was oddly standoff-ish. Yes, he was showy and friendly, drawing people to him like a magnetic force, but there was a distance he kept with people.
Roy Harper and Wally West, Arsenal and Kid Flash, respectively, were considered Nightwing’s best friends but even they were kept at a certain distance.
Jason never felt fully welcomed in the Titans and it wasn’t because Nightwing rejected him, no. In fact, it was the opposite.
Nightwing had a strange fascination with Jason as well and this pissed off the rest of the team.
They didn’t know what made Jason so special and, truthfully, Jason didn’t know either.
In the end, Jason decided to be more solo, occasionally teaming up with Roy when he left the Titans but didn’t want to join the Justice League.
Diana encouraged Jason’s friendship with Roy but was disappointed he hadn’t found any girl to be with him.
Jason snarked back that Diana shouldn’t be giving him love advice when she hadn’t confessed her feelings to Batman.
Yeah… That was during his moody teenage years.
Jason had grown up hearing Diana singing praise about Batman’s ‘brave and courageous actions’ and how he’s ‘handsome and kind but not overly arrogant like most men.’
Learning that Batman was Bruce Wayne, the Prince of Gotham and the multibillionaire of Wayne Industries, was a shocker.
Learning that Nightwing was Dick Grayson, part of the Flying Graysons and the former ward of Bruce Wayne, was also a shocker and it helped fill in a few missing pieces of the puzzle.
By the time Jason turned eighteen, now a legal adult, he had decided to be solo.
Now upgraded to Wonder Boy, having passed Wonder Woman’s trials, Jason enjoyed his life—for the most part.
As a full-fledged hero, Jason felt like he could take care of himself and was now focused on his adoptive mother and making her happy.
Jason was certain that Diana and Bruce would be the perfect couple.
They were part of the Trinity. They were both founders of the Justice League. They had the best chemistry. And their civilian identities as Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne were wealthy and successful enough that it wouldn’t be weird if they got together!
The year Jason turned eighteen, he decided to try and set up Wonder Woman and Batman.
They were meant to be.
