For The Sake of Warmth

Summary:

It gets cold at night which isn't something that Mint planned for.

Work Text:

“Good night, girls,” Mint sighed.

“Good night!” Answered Blossom’s bubbly voice.

“Night,” Next was the stern Storm.

It had been a long day today for Mint.

First, her messing up in front of Willow again. Then Willow getting poisoned because Mint had crossed paths with the wrong plant. The panic as they tried to find something to cure her with. Her, Storm and Blossom embarking on a desperate attempt to find the Land of the Smurfing Stones before it was too late for their dearly beloved Elder.

And then the panic again as Blossom had been hit by those mushrooms and nearly fell into an eternal sleep. Thank the Great Smurf she had borrowed Willow’s book without her permission. Otherwise…they would be down to two.

And so when night had fallen and after some naming suggestions for Storm’s spider mount (where did Spitfire go? She hadn’t seen him in a while. She had to ask Storm sooner or later.), she was grateful that they had decided to call it a night.

Maybe she could get some sleep.

She doubted it though.

The guilt…it was still there. Haunting and taunting her. Blaming her for what had befallen Willow.

She…she only wanted to help.

And look where that got her. You couldn’t just leave well enough. You just have to always try to help, even though it would be better for everyone if you just stayed out of the way.

“Woah…” Blossom breathed out, “The stars are so pretty tonight, girls.”

“They sure are, Blossom,” Mint murmured, unsure if she should speak or not.

“Glad to hear it!”

A part of Mint wished she could be like Blossom and keep her spirits up in these dark times.

“Alright, enough, you two,” Storm said, sitting up from where she lied between them and giving them both chiding looks, “We can talk more about the stars and the skies in the morning. We’ll need plenty of rest for tomorrow. No idea what we’ll face tomorrow so let’s try to get as much rest as possible, okay?”

“Roger that, Captain Stormy!” Blossom chirped before lying back. Mint nodded before pulling the leafy blanket over her, trying to let sleep overwhelm her.

Unfortunately, it did not come. Probably had something to do with the cold.

A cold breeze tickled her feet and shivered, forcing her to curl up and try to be as small as smurfily possible.

“You okay?” She jumped before recognising the voice and she turned to face Storm whose eyes were alight with concern.

“I’m…fine,” Mint tried to hide her shiver but didn’t, judging from how Storm switched from concerned to unimpressed that fast.

“Really?” Storm asked.

“...I’m not doing well with the cold,” Mint shivered.

“Okay,” Storm said before holding up her blanket, “Come on in.”

It took her mind a few moments to realise the implications and when it did, it went into overdrive as she blushed.

Storm was offering to share her bed with her for the night. Captain Smurfstorm was offering to share. Maybe even cuddle if it got too cold!?

Smurf.

“Is something wrong?” Storm asked.

“You…you’re offering me to sleep with you?” Mint said, very much flustered right now.

“And cuddle if necessary. For the sake of warmth,” Storm shrugged, “Now, get in.”

Seeing no other option and wanting so desperately to escape the cold, Mint nodded and quickly shuffled over, bringing her leafy blanket over as well as an extra layer. She turned around to face away from Storm, only to squeal as the archer wrapped one of her arms around her waist and pulled her closer.

Already, she could feel Storm’s warmth seeping into her, making her heart flutter a little and she couldn’t help but snuggle closer. Smurf, how long had it been since she experienced something like this? She wanted to stay like this forever.

As she lied there, her mind was filled with images of Storm. Her masterful archery skills. Her commanding voice. Her proud smiles and smirks. Her muscles and scars that made her all the more beautiful.

Beautiful? Mint stiffened at that.

Where did that come from?

Did she…there was no way…but…she…?

…Did she have a crush on Storm?

Nope. Out of the question. No way.

She was just stating from an objective, non-biased point of view that Storm was a beautiful Smurf in both personality and looks. She was not crushing on the Defence Team Captain.

Besides…why would Storm want someone like her? If she did had feelings for her, that was. And that was a big IF.

She always made things worse. She was the one who nearly blew up Willow’s lab earlier today. She was the one who kept getting in the way. She was the reason they were here, so far away from home trying desperately to save Willow.

She should’ve just gone by herself. Or let someone else do it. Storm, Blossom, Lily, anyone would be far more capable than her.

She thought back to how all the others laughed when she said she would go. They didn’t trust her. Not after what she did.

They wouldn’t trust her again.

Though…Storm had trusted her. Even if she wasn’t pleased with her decision to take Willow’s book, when Blossom was in danger, she trusted her to know what she was doing. And Storm had looked at her with such sincerity as she thanked her that made her heart skip a beat.

And Storm had trusted that boy from the village (Klutzy? No, it was Clumsy) to help out during that whole Gargamel situation. And they had been spending a lot of time since those events.

So…maybe she had a chance. If she did have feelings that is.

Maybe things weren’t as bad as she thought they were. Maybe they could do this.

Maybe it would be easier to ignore those thoughts and just…try to go to sleep.

Just for the night.

Notes:

Really want to do a rewrite of the Smurfwillow's Stick arc - Really let Mint go through the wringer.
