Last Christmas

Summary:

Your husband Beau catches you singing and dancing while you bake for the 25th

Work Text:

sheriff beau arlen stepped out of his truck that was parked up in the snowed-up driveway of your cozy house.

the sun was setting, illuminating the sky with beautiful winter pastels. pinks, blues and oranges.

seven inches of snow covered big sky, montana.

snow – something beau didn’t get quite used to just yet being a texan, from hot all-year-round texas.

the front door opened. the smell of baked goods hitting his nostrils and making his mouth instantly water, beau was such a foodie. whatever you baked or cooked, he would gobble up with a big smile on his face.

last christmas
i gave you my heart
but the very next day you gave it away
this year to save me from tears
i’ll give it to someone special ~

beau heard you from the kitchen, singing along and humming to the famous christmas song that you loved. your angelic voice put a nostalgic smile on his face, the song of his younger years.

he quietly crept down the hall and leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen, arms folded as he silently admired your carefree and cheery being.

he loved it when you, just were. existed – shamelessly, unapologetically. for yourself and no one else. feeling happy whenever you wanted to, crying when you needed it, not caring if you were being judged, because you stayed true to yourself.

your husband observed you dancing around the kitchen, singing along and making what seemed to be gingerbread men. all with this excited, festive spirit.

the corners of his eyes crinkled as he smiled, finding you absolutely adorable and perfect.

now i know what a fool i’ve been
but if you kiss me now i know you’d fool me again~

you sang your little heart out, making beau break his silence as a soft chuckle came out.

you abruptly turned round to find your husband standing in the doorway, with a smile on his face.

you gasped out as you got a sudden scare, your hand on your heart. “oh jeez babe you scared me!” you laughed at yourself, folding in half.

he couldn’t help but join in, your laughter was so infectious. “sorry, didn’t mean to scare my little superstar.”

he walked over and pulled you in close to him by your waist, “hi sweetheart.” he grinned before leaning down to give you a soft kiss.

“hope i’m not interrupting your little performance or sumn.” beau smirked softly.

you shook your head with a smile, “nope, was just getting everything ready for the 25th. wanna see what i baked already?” you asked with a proud look on your face.

“of course i do, who d’you think i am?” he answered with pure excitement, before letting you show and tell all the goodies you’ve done all day.
