Better Than The Christmas Lights

Summary:

Your heart skipped a few beats as you opened the passenger door and got in the car.
"Hey,"
you greeted Kevin and turned to look at him. Oh, how you'd missed him despite having talked with him just the day before. He smiled at you, letting you catch a brief glimpse of his snaggletooth. You felt your heart start beating faster. You couldn't help it; the familiar and soft glow in his eyes always made you feel so safe and loved.
"Hey,"
he said back. To you his voice always sounded sweeter than honey.

Notes:

Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Finnish folks!

Work Text:

You stood impatiently by the window, repeatedly peeking outside. Some butterflies were slowly waking up in your stomach and you couldn't help but bite your lip. You had already put your boots and jacket on and were now simply waiting for a very special person to show up.
As minutes passed by, you started slowly pacing back and forth. Finally, after a nearly agonizing wait you saw a familiar car stop by the sidewalk in front of the house. You wasted no time abandoning your post by the window, ran to grab your keys and hurried outside.. Only to run back into the house because you forgot something; a box of Kevin's favorite candy that you'd put wrapped up to hold onto the element of surprise.

"Are you ready to go?"
he asked and you nodded while putting on your seatbelt.
"Almost. I want to give this to you first,"
you announced as you handed the gift over to Kevin.
"Promise that you only open that after you get home."
He eyed the box with some curiosity in his eyes, but obediently turned to put it on the backseat.

It was only 7 pm, but it was already dark outside. Perfect for the activity you two had planned for the evening. Just a calm drive to look at the Christmas lights and decorations around the city. It was something you had been looking forward to all week. And maybe it was, in some way, a little silly, but you didn't really mind. You'd get to see all the beautiful lights of different colors, especially beautiful and captivating in the dark. And you'd get to do it all with Kevin. That might have been what you were actually the most excited about, at least if all the butterflies flying around and tickling in your stomach had anything to say about it. Either way, you felt this almost a child-like excitement when you two took off.

You kept looking to your left and stealing quick glances. But, as you quite soon came to realize, you were nowhere near as sneaky as you'd believed to be. Or at least hoped. Because after the first few glances Kevin looked back at you, just as quickly before having to focus on driving again. He did, however, place his right hand on top of yours for a little bit and squeeze it lightly. Your heart suddenly jumped in your chest. You felt a little silly because of your reaction, but knew that Kevin wouldn't judge you if you told him. He was always easygoing like that.

The Christmas lights were just as beautiful as you had expected them to be, but you did find yourself to be a little bit distracted. After about 20 minutes of driving Kevin found a place to park the car and turned to you. You also faced him.
"I will never get enough of you. And I don’t want to,"
you breathed out as you unbuckled your seatbelt you could scoot a little closer to kiss him. A car wasn't the most ideal place for such an activity, but neither of you let it stop you. You buried your fingers in Kevin's hair and closed your eyes as your lips made contact.

A short while later you had already forgotten all about the Christmas lights as Kevin occupied all of your thoughts.
