Chapter Text

12:46 AM

Frickin' great

Francis had been studying since 3:23 PM.
5 textbooks, 6 coffees, 3 almost-but-not-quite-naps and 2 minor mental breakdowns in and Mr. McMellow had never felt worse.

Francis had an exam that was worth a grand 50% of his grade In about 13 hours, and In his mind--a mind that is practically ingenious, sure, but in this scenario, wrong.--had barely even scratched the surface on the topic material at hand, and was almost definitely going to fail.

it also didn't help that his roommate, idiot film student, Hank McJones, had been tossing and turning around in his creaky bed for around 3 hours, not ceasing at Francis's exasperated signs.

"could you please refrain from moving in your bed, McJones? can you not see me fighting for my life here??"

Hank raised his head from his pillow to look at Francis, who was currently glaring at him with bloodshot mallace.

"I'm sorry, dude- but I don't like this as much as you do," Hank propped himself on his forearm "I ran out of my sleep pills like a week ago and my pharmacist is taking their sweet time getting it refilled, so for now-"

Hank dramatically flopped on his front

"Im an unwilling creature of the night" he drawled, face muffled my pillow.

Francis let out an annoyed exhale and eye roll at Hanks exhaust riddled theatrics, turning back to his study

"Alright fine, just please try not to toss about so much. your bed sounds like a rusty gate..."

As much as Francis tried to keep up his hatred for Hank, he couldn't deny he was... fond, of him.
He tried to play it off as a mild reluctant respect, which was still there for sure, but it definitely felt- more.
But he usually steered clear of thinking of him like that though, he was his roommate after all. plus apparently he got a girl pregnant a while back, which only made this almost-crush all the more pathetic.

But that never stopped him from, time to time, on occasion, thinking about him. His almost-green-hazel eyes, his crooked smile, how in the mornings, his messy curls frame his face so perfectly, as the light from the sun shillottes his figure leaving only a golden lining around his hair and face as he wishes that he could share a bed with him-

Okay, maybe a bit more than an almost-crush,
but Francis thought he was doing good at acting like he didn't like him.

"Screw this-" Hank swung out of bed and started pulling clothes out of his drawer

"what are you doing?" Francis Said, pulling himself away from studying once more

"I'm going on a walk, maybe go to the gas station for some snacks- oh and you're coming" Hank Began removing his pyjamas, replacing them with real clothes, all the more with Francis looking more confused

"what do you mean I'm coming? I'm studying!" Francis dramatically gestured towards his bombsite of a desktop, before turning back around embarrassed at the sight at the sight of Hank undressing

"Well, usually I wouldn't invite you, but you've been studying for 10 hours for God's sake! you need this" Hank threw Francis's coat at him and waited on his bed, arms crossed, for a response.

Francis was a bit bewildered by this sudden, aggressive, invitation, given that Hank went on these late night walks periodically, and had yet to invite anyone let alone his dickhead roommate.

Francis pouted "But it looks like it's going to rain"
"doubt it" Hank sated, before opening the door and standing their expectantly.

Francis considered the offer. Studies have proven that taking breaks are good, but what if he falls out of the groove? But a walk would benefit his health, but what if it rains and you get wet and you get a cold and have to miss the test? but it's a midnight/early morning walk with Hank?

"Jeez- okay fine-" Francis pulled on his coat and began looking for his shoes "but when I wake up groggy tomorrow, I'm blaming you"

"I don't think I'm the reason behind that, but okay"

when Francis was eventually ready, Hank held the door open with a sarcastic 'ladies first', which was met with a light smack on the arm from Francis.
As they stepped outside, the temperant humid air engulfed them, with note of the dark clouds bowing over head

"McJones, it's going to rain"

"Probably not, I think"
