Chapter 1: Painting the Story

Chapter Text

Edgar (with his new body!) walked around the new house his caretaker, who was also Miles and Madeline's daughter, Amelia, bought.

He saw the boxes being carried in, making some rooms look cluttered.

And to add background, Amelia worked for a striving "go for green energy" company called Greenworks, and managed to get contacts to get him a full body!

Edgar started to unpack what was going to be his room. It was bland, grey walls, nice wood flooring though. And he already got to work, taking some sticky tac to stick on his band posters, some older bands, other newer bands, ones that were even never heard of, He had to make a fanmade poster for So-Fi, such an amazing Japanese band, he absolutely adored that one.

Anyways.

He continued to unpack, opening the curtains to let some natural light in.

He yelped when he heard a knock on the doorframe, and the familiar chuckle of Amelia.

"So how's the body treating ya?" Amelia asked, eating a gronola bar.

"Oh! it's amazing!! I love it so much!" Edgar rambled on, his tail wagging rapidly.

"the room's not lookin to bad, dude" She complemented.

"Thank you! Although it feels like it needs more..." he looked around, his tail curling in and out, thinking.

"well, we can figure that part out later," She said before continuing.

"But I am glad the body's workin out for ya man." Amelia smiled, finishing up the gronola bar.

"Well, I'll go unpack the rest of the stuff, it ain't gonna be any heavy work, so you can chill, maybe make some music. We can go out to explore later." Amelia said, streaching, some joints popping loudly.

"O-Okay! I-I'll... Oooh!" Edgar walked outside to the back, looking over the large town, he could see the ocean not to far away!

He shuffled in his pocket and pulled out a folded photo and opened it.

The photo was of him in the middle, Madeline to the right and Moles(or Miles, but he liked to call him Moles) to the left holding up a peace sign.

If he was human he would of felt tears welding up in his eyes, he must of been making sniffling sounds, (dispite not having a nose nor lungs) because Amelia grasped his shoulder.

"Missing them?" She asked. Her eyes soft, and understanding.

"Y-Yeah... I watched them grow and I sorta grew with them... And you And Matthew grew up so fast" he chuckled, "Matthew called me papa alot" he laughed.

"Oh yeah, ya told me that alot... But look at that view..." she pointed to the ocean.

"Yeah... It is beautiful..." Edgar trailed off, his tail tapping his leg.

"do you think there are others like me?" Edgar asked, turning towards Amelia.

"Others like you? Like another sentient computer?" She asked, her head tilting.

"Yeah" he hummed.

"Well I don't know, the worlds a large place! Who knows really... But it is a really really small chance..." Amelia sighed.

The silence streached for awhile

She started to think of another way to cheer him up, and she snapped her fingers.

"How about we go walk around right now? Pretty sure I saw a instrument store on our way here." she gave a toothy smile.

Edgar smiled, "Sure, I'd like that." his tail wagged once again, this might make him feel better.

---------in town---------

"Okay, we parked near the Black Cat Pub, so we should be good direction wise." Amelia trotted up to Edgar.

"Amelia, I can easily process the routes" he said jokingly.

"Well I just want to use my own brain" she replied back, in a playful tone.

--20 minutes later--

"We are here!" Amelia smiled, the instrument shop being called "The Sterling Notes"

"Well lets go! Gosh, I really do hope they have a cello!" Edgar had more pep in his step now, entering the shop, and out of habit, when he heard the bell on the door chime. He mimicked it.

Amelia chuckled.

"old habits die hard!" he crowed.

The shop owner looked up, surprised and shocked for a second, but collected herself.

"Hello! Need help with anything?" the shop owner asked.

"Do you have any cellos on display?" Edgar asked, excitment building up in his processors.

"Yep! feel free to play any instrument on display aswell!" she spoke, leading him to the cellos.

Edgar sat in one of the chairs, bringing a cello up...

He thought what piece he should play...

Madeline always called our First duet, The Duel... I still remember it... maybe that one... He smiled fondly, taking the bow and starting to play, having to adjust the strings a bit before starting to play.

He played what felt like an hour.

He even used his internal music creation tool to complete the solo duet.

The bow glided smoothly, his fingers moving to make a high note or lower note.

When he was done... He felt refreshed, like he restarted, or his antivirus did a sweep over his systems.

"Is that the one?" Amelia asked, smiling fondly.

"Yeah... I think it is..." Edgar looked at the price tag, it was around $1,200. Which made him grimace.

"Edgar, dude, you know I make a lot of money, it's a lot, but I can afford it." she smiled.

"I know... It just feels wrong ya know?" He sighed.

"Cmon, lets get up to the register." Amelia patted his shoulder.

Edgar wasn't too sure what to do with the cello so he simply brought it with him up to the register.

--after the exchange--

The bell rang as they walked out of the store again, the cello safely in its casing around his shoulder.

He rambled on with Amelia, saying all the songs he want to try to play on the cello, he had so many ideas, it was so exiting!

But when he saw Amelia's eyes widen, it was already too late, and both Amelia's voice and another overlaped eachother.

"EDGAR INFRONT OF YOU!"

"PAINTER LOOK OUT!"

Edgar bumped into someone holding a lot of art supplies, his fans kicking in overdrive from stress.

"O-Oh goodness I am so sorry- I should of looked where I was-" When Edgar was going to grab a pack of paint brushes that fell, another, equally robotic, hand touched his, a tiny spark of electricity buzzing between their touched fingers.

"Uh-" Edgar looked up, his fans wirring higher.

-Memory-

"Hey Moles?"

"yeah?"

"is there such thing as "love at first sight"? I've always found that strange, you don't know the person, but you just know you love them."

"Well, I've known some people that had lasting "love at first sight" relationships, including me and Madeline."

"any reason why you asked that?"

"Just was curious!"

-Memory End-

"H-Hi..." The other robot stuttered out, their screen displaying a scribbled drawn on sheepish smile.

"I... I'm Edgar." Edgar managed to squeak out.

"I'm Painter..." Painter said, the smile on their screen growing.
