Work Text:
This year, Suho and Mynthiao went back to the mountains of Auroria to visit the Hiram tribe for Winter Maiden. As the Chosen One, Suho was chosen to hold the Calling of the Sun ceremony, a tradition to ensure the return of daylight after the longest night of the year.
Although they had seen this ceremony the year before, they were still unfamiliar with the preparations. Suho had to disappear for hours on end just for the priests to get him ready. In the meantime, Mynthiao was tasked with ordering the offerings and bringing them to him. She had been wandering around the cave for minutes now, carrying the heavy box with her, struggling to see in front of her with the piles of fruits getting in her way.
Worst still, there was no one around to tell her where Suho was. Just where did everyone disappear to?
Finally, a Hiram child ran down from the upper part of the cave and called out to her.
“Mynthiao! Everyone is up on the terrace already! The ceremony is starting!”
“By the Gods why did no one tell me?!”
She ran up after the kid, the fruits threatening to roll down with her every step. As soon as she reached the terrace, her rushing speed caused her to slip on the fresh snow and she fell forward. Quick thinking permitted her to perform a quick spin to land on her bum instead, still holding the box above her head, but half of its content had already hit the floor. Suho walked towards her, dressed like a Hiram priest with a heavy fur coat, owl feathers everywhere and a woven dream-catcher-like-circle on the chest, as well as owlina antler on his head. He kneeled down to help Mynthiao retrieve the fruits on the floor and whispered.
“Where in the world were you? We’re late to start the ceremony…!”
“No one bloody told me!” she replied in a similar quiet tone. “I’ve been carrying that crap around looking for you for the past hour!”
“Nothing is going right tonight” Suho lamented, as one of his antlers dropped down, giving him the look of a sad puppy. “And look at the sky; it’s all cloudy! Nui bless us, what is going to happen if I don’t succeed in calling the sun?”
