Some cookies just wanted to watch Earthbread burn.
One of those cookies happened to be the Immortal Cataclysm.
The Zephyr of Life watched helplessly from what was left of the Dessert Paradise, as the rest of the world around him burned to ash. The flames were scorching the very dough of the screaming cookies as their icing melted together into a distorted pile of melted sugar. Cookies that were not burning alive were slaughtered: their corpses laying to cook alive while they were left in pools of their own boiling jam. The overly sweet smell and the strong smell of smoke was nothing less than sickening.
He could hear the pleading of cookies as they begged for the Zephyr of Life to do something—anything—to save them from their fate in the fiery inferno which had engulfed them. He glanced at his bow. It was in two charcoal-stained pieces.
He could feel the same heat the cookies were burning in behind him as well; the source. The Immortal Cataclysm held both hands on the winged cookie’s shoulders and dug his claws deep—deep enough to draw jam. The sheer heat of his hands burned multiple layers of his dough. He smiled sinisterly; a psychotic smile of amusement and internal, eternal pain as he held him in place.
He wanted him to watch. Watch whatever he held dear—dearer than him—to burn in front of his devastated forest green eyes.
The Zephyr of Life shed a singular tear. A tear for the pain he felt, as well as for the pain he witnessed others feeling. A flower began to sprout when it came into contact with the charred, lifeless grass, just to catch fire the instant it dared to bloom.
He closed his eyes and looked away. He could not bear to see the jamshed in front of his eyes. Seconds after he did, the scorching hand that was previously digging in his shoulder released to grab his chin and force his head back towards the gruesome sight.
“Don’t look away, pretty bird.”
The Zephyr of Life winced at the nickname.
They stood and watched until the cookies screamed no more, and only the crackles of once a cozy, heartwarming flame could be heard. The Zephyr of Life was grateful that the fire that burned was louder than the cookies screaming kingdoms away.
“You’re lucky I couldn’t find that old tree and that blue featherbrained brat,” the Immortal Cataclysm hissed angrily, “or you would’ve watched them burn too.”
The Zephyr of Life released some tension in his aching, bleeding shoulders when he heard him complain of his failed search for them. He could only hope that Sugar Swan Cookie and Red Panna Cotta Cookie had managed to escape as well, since there was no mention of failing to find them.
He, however, held out little hope for the other guardians of nature.
He knew Stormbringer Cookie was dead. He had seen The Immortal Cataclysm descend from the heavens and snap her Heaven Splitter in two like a twig.
He knew Frost Queen Cookie was dead. He had seen that there was nothing but flame where her domain once stood.
Sea Fairy Cookie was becoming weaker at a rapid rate. The flames were hot enough to evaporate whole bodies of water—and that is what they sought to do. No doubt that the abundant marine life inside the seas were all boiling alive as well.
Moonlight Cookie was dormant in the only place untouched by his flames; the City of Wizards. He knew that was going to change.
Despite his somewhat composed face, his hands trembled uncontrollably. He did not dare to look at the cookie behind him.
“Isn’t this so much better?” The Immortal Cataclysm moved his hand which was on his chin down to his neck. He tilted the Zephyr of Life’s head upwards. “No duties to distract you or darkness to purify. No selfish cookies left to ruin our lives.” He leaned in close to the Zephyr of Life’s ear and whispered in a malicious but teasingly sweet way. “It’ll just be you and me, watching the world burn…”
The Zephyr of Life swallowed; hard. He hoped the next word
he was going to say wasn’t—
“...forever.”
