Bound Together, Bound By Fate

Summary:

Drabbles to test out an idea I'm thinking about working on.

Many years ago, two friends were separated by the whims of the fates and the gods above. One became a wicked sorcerer, slowly losing his grip on his sanity. The other became the chosen hero determined to kill him every time he rose to power.

There's just one problem. The villain is still in love with the hero, even after all this time.

Chapter 1: Do You Remember?

Chapter Text

Hero, do you remember when we were young and dreamed of adventure? We were two small town fools longing for something so bigger than we could ever be. We set out from that no name town together hoping for better things.

Instead we found a curse.

The gods must have found it funny leaving that cursed amulet there, inextricably linking us. You became the hero, taking up a blade to fell the evil threatening this land. That amulet made me your villain, its gemstone burying so deep in my forehead as a reminder I could never escape.

You killed me in that life. I wonder if you mourned my loss. You must have. You still loved me in that life.

The next time we met, you were not yourself. Nor was I, desperately clawing to regain my own sanity from that wretched artifact.

I killed you in that life. I held your body as the light faded from your eyes and buried my face in your shoulder. I’m not afraid to admit I cried. Sobbed like a baby, really. It was the first I could control myself, if only for a little while.

How many lifetimes did we fight after that, killing and being killed? I remembered you more and more, despite the amulet’s incessant whispering. In not a single one of them did you remember me.

I’m not the same man I was back then. The amulet has twisted me and you loss has crushed me, But, when we meet again, I will be in control. I promise you I won’t hurt you again. I can’t let myself.

But I wonder…

Will you remember me the next time we meet? Will you remember that I love you? That you love me?

I pray fate will be kind for once, but I’m not hopeful.

Please, hero. Come back to me.

Come back to me.
