Sharon smiled as they broke apart. "That was..."
"Late." Steve's mouth curved in a sheepish half grin. "I know."
As Sharon walked back around the car, Steve glanced back at his friends sitting in the ancient VW Bug. Sam was smiling and shaking his head knowingly at him while Bucky sulked the backseat. Bucky perked up instantly when Steve grinned at him, his face spreading into a quick smile. Steve was warm and giddy with time and long forgotten feelings.
"Am I worth all this trouble?" Bucky said quietly. He was sat behind Steve in the quinjet, sulking and unsure again. The fight, coupled with the looming threat of Zemo and the abandoned super soldier facility, had dampened the mood. Heavy silence hung over their journey.
"You're worth it to me, Buck," Steve said. He turned and held Bucky's gaze, willing him to believe his words and trust they were true, putting everything he couldn't say out loud into that one look before returning somberly to piloting the jet.
"Don't worry," Steve smiled as he gestured towards the expansive Avengers' compound behind him. "We don't bite." His grin was lopsided and micheivious as he dipped his head to Bucky in a knowing look. "Well, not unless you ask."
