Work Text:
Et tu, Brute?
You yourself said we’d crossed the Rubicon,
there was no turning back.
So I stepped across
and found myself on the far shore, forever changed.
I stood there, waiting, convinced I heard you in the water behind me.
Yet when I turned, behold—
I saw you drowning in the modest stream, face-down in 3 feet of water.
I begged you, "Just stand up, please!”
You gave no response, just a silence that screamed,
“But I don't know how.”
A tear tried, but failed to escape.
I whispered a soft:
“Et tu, Brute?”
