Chapter 1: NICO

Chapter Text

Nico couldn’t remember what happened. He couldn’t remember anything. Anything at all. His life before, friends he possibly might have had, any memory of that was gone. His memories were gone.

All he knew was that he had groggily opened his eyes, only to find himself drenched in freezing water. When he had opened his eyes, he was greeted with the sight of a deathly pale man with intense, onyx eyes and hair that was darker than the night. The man was holding him, his grip on Nico’s body firm yet gentle, carefully trying to shake him awake. Nico had no clue who this man- this stranger -was…but for some reason his mind couldn’t understand, he felt an odd sense of familiarity from him.

“Nico…Nico…Niccolo, wake up for me…”

Nico tried his absolute hardest to properly focus his eyes on the man's face, though it took him a minute. He blinked owlishly, lazily raising his hand to his face and sleepily rubbing one of his eyes, “...What…who are you…who-who's Nico?”

The man sighed, pulling Nico’s head to his chest and cradled him tenderly, stroking his hair with his long fingers. He had a solemn look on his face, though Nico couldn’t really comprehend it for some reason. “You don’t remember anything, do you?” the stranger asked with an exasperated tone. As if he was accepting something that Nico didn’t know about. Nico made a confused and clueless sound at the questions, his eyes beginning to lose focus again. “Wha- what…huh?” Nico questioned awkwardly.

“Im your father. You are Nico.”

The revelation should have been shocking, or at least should have jogged some sort of memory.

Nico didn’t feel any of that. Actually, he didn’t really feel anything at all, aside from confusion of course. This man was apparently his father and his own name was apparently ‘Nico’.

“...Okay,” Nico responded simply, feeling himself starting to doze off. He felt tired- oh, so tired- he felt a sudden wave of exhaustion wash over him. If this man was his father, then he had no reason to not trust him, he supposed.

He suddenly felt the man- his father- stand up while still cradling him like a baby in his arms, and begin walking over to ... .well, walking over to somewhere. Nico let it happen, though he didn’t miss the way his father looked at him with pity, or like this wasn’t how his son once was. Nico realized that he was starting to fall into sleep…he felt comfortable enough to let himself rest. He could think about the fact that he had no recollection of a life he may have lived before some other time. As he started to drift off and lose all consciousness, he could have sworn he heard his father say:

“It’ll be alright, Nico…you can start over…”
