Chapter Text
I wake up, and blink a few times, then I look around my bedroom, my eyes flicker around at all the posters and pictures covering my grey walls. I glance at the calendar on my desk, September 7th 2009. Great, the first day of school, specifically grade 10. I sigh as I pull my plaid duvet off myself. And grab the closest pair of jeans on my floor, a red and black striped long sleeve shirt, and a T-shirt I bought last week at Hot Topic with the monster energy logo on the front, that's good enough for a first day outfit, I’ve never really tried too hard on my looks, except for the eyeliner i put on every day, I got the idea from my older brother, Clancy’s boyfriend Josh, he's pretty cool. As I search my room for a clean pair of socks, I put my earbuds in and plug in my Ipod, and put on “What’s my age again?” by Blink-182. Once I'm dressed I walk over to the bathroom me and Clancy share and put eyeliner around my eyes and rub it around, then brush my teeth. Clancy walks into the bathroom, “Are you almost ready? We have to leave early, I'm also picking up Josh ".Clancy asks me, “Yeah I’ll meet you in the car”.
I then leave the bathroom and go downstairs to my dad drinking coffee sitting at the dining table and my mom standing in the kitchen. I assume she's making me and Clancy toast. “Good morning, Tyler, How did you sleep?” My mom questions as she sees me walk into the kitchen, “It was fine” I say, with a sigh, but it really wasn't that good, I’d accidentally stayed up a few hours later than I wanted to, playing Fallout New Vegas, and stayed up till 2 am.
I hop into the backseat of Clancy's car, knowing we were picking up Josh. Once we arrive at Josh’s house, he walks out with his signature letterman jacket, telling everyone around him he was the school's quarterback, it was pretty obvious as he was decently tall and bulky. Even though he had long hair and a yellow streak in his side fringe, people knew not to mess with him. He jumps in the car and gives Clancy a kiss on the cheek, gross. He turns around and looks at me “Hey Tyler, what's up?” he asks, “Nothing, just being forced to watch you two smooch up there, instead of focusing on the road, if we crash before we even get to school and the last thing i see is you two going at it, I’m haunting both of you” I say with a slight grin on my face.
As we pull up to the school, I can see a few of my friends walking into the school, it's Savannah, she's chatting with Bela while her younger sisters, Cassandra and Daniela walk behind them. Clancy parks in his spot he had last year and I walk into the school with him and Josh, we all walk into the gymnasium together, I search for my friends through the field of teenagers all stuffed in the gym. I then get the absolute shit scared out of me by Bela tasing me (poking the bottom of someone's ribcage, it feels like a little zap cuz it hits a nerve i think). I turn around and see Bela and Savannah about to fall on the floor from laughter. “Yeah, I missed you guys too” I say with sarcasm, during the summer, I didn't spend much time with my friends as I was working my ass off trying to buy this bass I’d been working towards for the past few months, once I bought it in August, I spent the rest of the summer practicing every day, so hopefully me and Savannah could start a band. The two girls are finally pulling themselves together and I ask them about their summers “So… how have you guys been?” they’ve definitely gotten closer over the summer, as before they were really just slight friends.
“I’ve been great!... till i was dragged to this fucking prison” Savannah says as her smile becomes more of a frown, no one was very fond of this school, they put the stupidest rules out, which no one followed. Bela then answered your question “I’ve been decent, mainly just been hanging out with my family, and Savannah” I glanced down and saw that their hands became interlocked with one another. They really got close over the summer then, last year the most they would have is a minor small talk by their lockers. I don’t really want to say anything about it though, it's not my place to say. Then I hear tapping of a microphone and, “Hello? Is this on?” and advert my attention to Principal Nico standing at the front of the gym grabbing everyone's attention. “Welcome back, everyone!” Nico says while everyone pauses their conversations. I really just disassociate while he continues rambling, then I see everyone walking out of the gym, I go up to Savannah “Uh… what did he say? I wasn’t paying attention” I ask, trying to catch up with the two, they were insanely fast walkers. Savannah then slows down and answers me “Going to our homerooms, we’re in the same one, just follow us.” I sigh, thank god I have friends in my homeroom.
As we walk into the room I look around and see some other friends in the class, there's Neishin, Ethan, and Jenna. We all walk over to where they are sitting and Savannah high fives Nei, and pulls up a chair beside him, Bela sitting next to her, I sit next to Jenna. Jenna’s cool, we used to be neighbors as kids then she moved somewhere else in town. I took out the one earbud I had in that was playing “The diary of Jane” by Breaking Benjamin. As I pause my music and put my Ipod back in my pocket, our teacher walks in, it’s Mr. Wayne. He's a decent teacher, one of the ones I like better in this school. He coughs as he drops his things on his desk, and everyone stops talking and looks up at him, “Good morning everyone, already looking around I can see It’ll be an easier year” He says with a soft smile on his face, I look around too and see that there isn’t a single jock in the class, I sigh as my anxiety slowly fades. I’m then given my schedule for the year, go to all my classes, and arrive back home. I flopped on my bed with a sigh. Today was a lot, but I have friends in every single one of my classes, so lots of my anxiety is gone. I then roll onto my bean bag beside my bed and turn on my CRT TV and turn on my Xbox 360. I see that Savannah is online, playing Left 4 Dead, I put the same game into my disk drive and boot it up, and play a few versus matches together. I check the time, it’s 5:30, and I hear my mom yell at me to come down for dinner. After eating and playing Red Dead Redemption, I go to bed.
