Couldn't Take It Back

Summary:

The line between friendship and romance is... interesting.

Work Text:

"And when will I see you again?"

Yuuri hesitated.

He didn't know. Would he ever come back? Could he ever come back?

Probably not.

He'd be leaving for good. And though he would miss everyone, the thought of leaving his beautiful and fiery companion especially made his heart ache.

He leaned forward, softly pressing his lips against him. They moved slowly, tasting the other's breath and feeling his warmth. It wasn't romantic exactly, it was intimate, feeling each other in a way that they had never done before.

"Wolf... we'll always be friends, won't we?"

"Mmm." Wolfram's hands held onto him as they kissed a little more.

"No, seriously Wolf," Yuuri prodded, his voice a little frantic now. "Even when I'm gone, we'll still be best friends, right?"

When Wolfram still hesitated, Yuuri pressed dozens of chaste kisses on his mouth, urging a response. "You're my best friend in the whole world," Yuuri said, mumbling the words into him.

"Do you do this with all your friends?" Wolfram asked, narrowing his eyes. But his voice was quiet. Vulnerable.

"No. You know I don't." Yuuri's hands slid around to Wolfram hips and rubbed them pleasantly. "You're the only one. Only you. I want you."

It was the first time he'd ever kissed someone. Yuuri didn't know how to explain the feeling, but he loved him. Of course, they were both boys, so it couldn't be romantic, but he loved his friend so much. He loved him so badly.

"Yuuri..." Wolfram had no idea what to say. "I... I want you to always remember me. Okay?"

Yuuri nodded.

He felt Wolfram's tongue slide along his lips, soft and caring. Then his tongue was in his mouth, and, with a little encouragement, he began sucking his friend's tongue. His body felt warm and hazy as their tongues soon began to touch and feel each other in a first greeting. Swallowing and drinking their mixed saliva, he felt a little happiness at connecting with his friend in a way they had never done before.

When they pulled back, his face was flushed, melting, and happy. Wolfram looked the same way, although with a touch of shyness from what they'd just done.

"I love you, Wolf."

"Mm. I love you, Yuuri," he said, leaning back in to resume their friendly kissing. "You're just so cute."

Yuuri giggled slightly against his lips. "No you are."

"No you are." Hands and arms, cradling and touching.

"No you are!" Legs moving into just the right spots.

They kissed comfortably, words passing into the other's mouth with ease. But as much as he found himself trying to ignore it, Yuuri's body continued to thrum with a different sense of desire. Maybe, with the few layers of clothes out of the way, they could really take their friendship to the next level...

What followed next was a level of heat, passion, and togetherness that Yuuri could have never imagined. Not even in his wildest dreams.

~...~

"What the heck?!"

Yuuri sat up in bed in shock, then blinked in confusion trying to make sense of his surroundings. He was in bed, with a sleeping Wolfram right next to him. It was a normal night. He wasn't planning on leaving The Great Demon Kingdom anytime soon, and certainly not a permanent leave if he ever did. That was completely out of the question.

He quickly checked under the covers, then sighed with relief when he saw they were dry. That was one disaster averted.

It had just been a dream.

A very weird one at that. Yuuri buried his face in his hands, a rapid blush forming on him.

The logic in it made no sense. Obviously if two people were kissing and touching and making passionate declarations of love, it wasn't just friendship! Same gender or not. Besides, why would his brain even conjure up such a scenario? He didn't even like Wolfram like that! Yeah sure, he had occasionally fantasized about kissing him before—Wolfram was blonde, and pretty, and had nice skin, and was technically engaged to him, was one of his most ardent supporters, someone who he could place trust in for everything from the hardships of the battlefield to the closeness sharing a bed—it was only natural to have some risque fantasies about someone like that, but his feelings for him were still just of friendship... oh.

Yuuri suddenly realized exactly what that dream had been trying to tell him.

Sheepishly, he glanced back over at Wolfram, who was still sleeping peacefully under the covers.

Now that he had finally realized, he couldn't take it back.

Lying back down, his mind somehow felt like it was both whirling and at a new sense of peace.

And all that was left now, was to figure out how to confess...
