Work Text:
Needless to say, this past month had been very eventful for Baek Saheon.
A short recap.
He got promoted to Supervisor not too long ago.
He finally got a response from the Agent whom he thought was dead. (Reasonably to assume so. Like did you not remember the rain from that day? It looked like blood and could very well be.)
He gained more items, some from the aforementioned Agent too.
He became an informant for that same Agent.
Sort of.
Compared to his last experience of being a certain someone else’s informant, this was much better.
He then got recommended to Director Ho’s secret project. A rumour he had heard for a while and now it was confirmed by the very fact that he was there with other members of the project.
He met that bastard Kim Soleum again whom he hoped was dead. And this time, he was back as a Darkness entity. He knew that something was off about him and that he couldn’t trust him one bit. But the others didn’t seem that put off after knowing Kim Soleum’s true identity as a Darkness.
Like what the hell?
He must have them under some kind of influence as part of his supernatural abilities.
And recently due to the secret project and someone, Baek Saheon had to work one day in a talkshow of an entity with a vintage TV head.
Something about this entity felt familiar but he didn’t ponder on that for too long.
Today was another morning and another day of work.
Baek Saheon was on his way to the lift and saw someone just going in the lift that had just arrived.
“Wait a minute!”
Thank goodness, the person inside held the lift door open for him.
The person inside looked to be a researcher based on his white lab coat.
He pressed the button for the floor he needed to get off to and waited.
“Saheon-ssi.”
Did this researcher just call him by his first name?
This researcher must be someone who was very daring to call a Supervisor of the Field Exploration Team by their first name rather than their proper title.
He wasn’t close to anyone within the company to be addressed as such by anyone. So he was a little surprised and internally cursed at this fucker.
“Yes?”
This fucker better got something good to say after addressing him inappropriately.
“I’m sorry about what happened in the village, but I’m glad Saheon-ssi is able to continue his life as per normal.”
!
Did this fucker just mentioned that godforsaken village?
He never told anyone about that village where he grew up. And this researcher knew about it. Did someone leaked his personal information or did a private investigation on him? Why mention a village that never meant anything to him?
On instinct, Baek Saheon raised his hand to lift his eyepatch to gauge the level of danger from this researcher.
He then recalled someone who knew about his situation personally.
The agent who saved him back in Jisan village.
Was this researcher that Agent?
Was this why he hadn’t been checking the paper boat?
Working undercover in Daydream for the Supernatural Disaster Management Bureau.
Again?
Didn’t he just go undercover in a cult not too long ago?
He lifted up his eyepatch but kept his eye closed.
If it was really that agent, there was no need to check anything. This agent saved his life back then and he was even checking on his wellbeing while being undercover in Daydream.
“Agent?”
Baek Saheon observed the researcher's expression.
A slight moment of shock in his eyes, but the researcher quickly composed himself.
“Yes. It’s me.”
Was it really that Agent?
A rookie mistake to reveal your identity to someone of the faction you’re undercovering in.
Baek Saheon couldn’t believe this agent broke the most basic rules of undercover just to ask about his wellbeing after nearly sacrificing him in Jisan Village.
Thank goodness, he discovered the agent’s identity before anyone else. Maybe he could get some items from this opportunity. He wouldn’t miss the chance to make use of a naive agent.
This agent should consider himself lucky that Baek Saheon didn’t immediately report him to his superiors right there and then.
He still had to make sure.
“Isn’t it you?”
“You kept asking questions about the company. So I’m guessing this is what you’ve been up to.”
“I was beginning to wonder why you didn’t use the paper boats recently.”
The agent didn’t answer. He must have realised the mistake. This agent really believed in the good of humanity.
“Did you think I would help you? You chose to reveal your identity while undercover.”
Baek Saheon’s day immediately just got better.
