How complicated can it be to find out you're pregnant?

Summary:

Kim Dokja's friends help him confirm his pregnancy, and now he has to inform the other father of this complicated situation.

Work Text:

Kim Dokja was pregnant. Okay, probably pregnant, even though he didn't want to consider the possibility.

He was having those weird nauseas every morning and had to stop working to go throw up in the bathroom. It came to a point that even his unbearable boss was getting worried about him and being less unbearable.

Now, willing to accept his reality he understands what was happening all this time. This was a clear pregnancy symptom and he should stop to think he has some kind of incurable stomach disease.

“Dokja-ssi? Are you okay?" He looked to the side, where Yoo Sangah was standing, worriedly looking at him. Was he looking abnormally pale again? It wouldn't be weird, since he was starting to feel sick again.

“Yes, don't worry Sangah-ssi." It's cute how she's always so worried about his health, she's truly an angel.

“If you start feeling sick again, take this, okay? The guy at the pharmacy told me it's great for morning sickness." So she thought he was pregnant too? Well, probably everyone in Minosoft knows at this point, but he just wished he could deal with this alone. Not that he didn't appreciate her help, of course! "Uhm… Dokja-ssi… I… bought you a pregnancy test."

“What?"

“S-Sooyoung convinced me to! But, to be honest… I think you should take it too…"

“...T-Thank you, I guess…” She handed him the bag and told him more things he didn't really focus on, he was so shocked from this he didn't even react how he should.

After work, he went to Han Sooyoung and Yoo Sangah’s apartment to take his pregnancy test, being convinced by them that it was better to have support after finding out the truth—one that everyone already knew about. As the two of them got there, three other people were sitting on her couch. Lee Hyunsung, Jung Heewon and Lee Jihye were discussing passionately about babies and sharing (really loudly) their opinions on Dokja’s pregnancy.

"Hey, Dokja-ssi! Did you prepare yourself psychologically for the tests?"

“‘Tests’? Is there more than one…?” Heewon simply threw a bag in his direction. There were two more tests inside.

“Well, we already know you're pregnant, right? But we thought it was better to be sure!” He didn't know if he was embarrassed that everyone knew, annoyed for this whole circus around his situation or touched by their feelings and will to help.

He took the tests anyway, going straight to the washroom while Han Sooyoung was serving everyone drinks. Dokja was kind of nervous about this, he had three pregnancy tests on his hands and could only think about how much being pregnant with his situationship’s child would affect his life. What about Joonghyuk? What would he think of this? That was what worried him the most. They weren't dating at all, not even progressing in their relationship (not for lack of trying on Dokja's part) and even though they were friends, they definitely fought too much. Should he even tell the guy he was going to be a father?

After a good while inside the washroom, he finally decided to go back to the living room and accept the humiliation of waiting for the results alongside his group. He was now sitting on the couch, sipping on a juice Sangah made him—and Jihye, since she also couldn't drink.

“Dokja, are you sure you did this right? You really peed on that, right?” Sooyoung said, boredly looking at the tests, which were in a glass on the coffee table.

"The five minutes still haven't passed. Be patient.” He said but he himself couldn't stand the wait anymore, even if the answer was clear to everyone.

"Dokja-ssi, have you already told Joonghyuk-ssi about it?” Yoo Sangah naively asked, but that innocent question caused her friend to collapse.

He had his elbows on his knees and his face on his hands, sighing despairingly. “...I don't want to. He'll kill me.”

"Pfft. Doubt it." Heewon said, leaving her empty beer can at the coffee table. “He's lowkey crazy about you. Plus, it's his fault too! Fight back dude!"

“Ahjussi, I want it to be a girl. Please make a pretty niece for us.”

"... I'll do my best. But if it ends up being a boy it's completely that bastard's fault."

They spent the next minutes discussing things that could possibly help their friend in the journey of becoming a father. No one actually cared when they noticed the test results coming as positive for all the three of them. They only congratulated him and convinced he should tell the other father as soon as possible.

The next day, while slowly walking towards Yoo Joonghyuk’s apartment and thinking about how to say what he wanted to say, he bumped into Lee Gilyoung and Shin Yoosung playing—or trying to—and their mothers talking together in the park. The kids immediately stopped everything they were doing just to talk to him.

"Ahjussi, play with us!" Sooyoung said, while clinging to his coat.

“We're building houses for ants!" Gilyoung was on his other side, hugging his leg. He felt really bad for turning these cute kids down, he would love to spend his whole day building houses for whatever insect is next, but he had something important to do now.

"I'm sorry kids, but I can't right now. I have somewhere to go.” He pet the kids’ heads and tried to move, but they just held him harder.

“Hyung, where are you going? Is it that important?"

“...Okay, I guess I should tell you two about it…" He crouched to be at level and deep breathed. "Uhh, so… the thing is… I'm pregnant."

“What?!" The two kids yelled, surprised. Then, they started talking and making questions at the same time, still yelling and now holding Dokja’s arms and shaking him. He gave up trying to answer what they were saying and simply accepted it.

"We'll talk more about this after I finish what I need to do, okay?” While getting up, he noticed another person approaching.

“Congratulations, Kim Dokja."

"Thanks, Seolhwa-ssi.”

"Good luck on telling Joonghyuk. Go tell me more about it later at the hospital."

"Wait, Ahjussi!” Shin Yoosung stops him before he could even move. “You have to put all your energy into making us a sister, okay?"

“This… isn't something I can exactly control…"

“Hyung, focus! But it's okay if it's a boy, it would definitely be better to play with him than with her" Gilyoung points at the girl next to him and they start to fight. He didn't even have time to take the fault away from him and put it onto Yoo Joonghyuk in case it's not a girl.

Dokja tried to separate them and said bye to the doctor before running to get on the subway station, trying to get to Joonghyuk address as soon as possible. He just needed to get there before the guy decided to randomly leave the apartment to do something, since he doesn't have time to wait for him to come back and he definitely doesn't want to text him before going! Just so he doesn't expect something and gets disappointed later, not because he's too nervous to type or something.

Not only too nervous to talk but too nervous to know where he's going, since he took the wrong train two times and would now have to go all around Seoul just to get where he needs to.

He eventually did it, an hour later and still internally cursing himself for being a distracted fool. Then, as if he had any more time to spare, he lost five minutes standing by Joonghyuk's door, trying to rehearse what to say before he rang the doorbell. Which he did three times in a 6 seconds interval. Saying he was nervous was an understatement now, he was dying from anxiety. He felt like he could vomit and pass out right there at any time from now.

“...Kim Dokja?" He looked up when he heard that familiar voice. How sweet it is to hear the voice of the bastard who got you pregnant and desperate!

"...Yoo Joonghyuk.”

"What are you doing here?" Good question! He thinks he can answer that in... five minutes. Maybe ten, if this discomfort doesn't go away with his prayers. “Shouldn't you be working already?"

“Ahaha, about that… Uhh, we kinda need to talk…"

“... About what?" He was probably thinking Dokja was going through some illness or financial problems right now, that's his worried-but-suspicious face. Well, he wasn't exactly wrong. He was getting ill every single morning and this would probably get him broke.

Dokja decided that maybe he should simply say anything at once so he would understand and he wouldn't be feeling like dying for longer. So that's what he did.

"First of all! I know it's a complicated thing and I already thought about all the consequences involved!”

"Do you want to get in? It would be better to talk insid—”

"No, I'm fine! It'll be fast!” In this rhythm, maybe. At this point, he wasn't even thinking before saying, just looking to the ground and babbling anything that comes out. "The thing is… I'm pregnant! And like I said, I know it'll be hard, and expensive, and tiring and everything babies are, and I have the kids, you have Mia and Jihye, and our work and all that! A-And we're not even dating, so it might be a little weird too but… uhh… it happened anyways, haha, right? And i-it's fine if you don't want to do with the baby or—"

“Wait. Hold on." He's been trying to stop him for a while but was certainly being ignored, so he has to raise his voice slightly to silence the man in front of him. “You're… pregnant."

“...Yes."

“And it's mine?"

“...Of course it is, why would I even be here if it wasn't?!"

“Then don't assume I don't want to raise my child.” Wow, that was almost a slap on Dokja's face! “I don't know why you thought that, but I understand. You… might be feeling nervous.”

"Just a little bit…" Liar. He was still trembling even after the confirmation he just heard.

“I’ll be here for you and the kid at every single step. Don't worry about that."

“There's still the other things…"

“What? The ‘expensive and tiring’ part? We can deal with it. The kids won't be a problem either. And we can simply start dating if… you want to.”

"...To think it took me being pregnant for you to ask me out…" he mumbled, but Joonghyuk clearly heard it.

“I was trying to before. But every time you decided to get on my nerves and I would leave it for next time.”

"Uhm… clearly not my fault. A-Anyway! Do you want to check the tests…? I brought them just in case… Well, Heewon-ssi said I should, so I did…"

“You told her already?"

“... Actually," He paused, stopped looking at his bag, and remembered how he made the father of his child be the last one to know about his pregnancy. “Everyone knows…”

"... I'm the last one?” Normally he wouldn't be feeling guilty for something like that, it might be the hormones. He felt so silly he almost wanted to cry.

"... Sorry. B-but it's not my fault! S-Sangah-ssi bought me a test and I went to take it in her house and Han Sooyoung asked everyone to come, then I told the kids and Seolhwa-ssi earlier…"

“It's fine, Dokja. I'm not mad.”

"...If I tell you that my mother doesn't know, will you feel better?”

"... Absolutely. Come in now, we have to finish talking.”
