Work Text:
It started with a look.
It always did.
They were at his place, sorting through case files at opposite ends of the couch. At any given moment they’d find each other staring at one another, or leaning closely in for clarification in a certain part of said files. Innocent enough, up until she stretched with her shirt lifting just a bit, revealing a line of warm skin.
Rafael stopped mid sentence.
“…What were you saying?” she asked, pretending not to notice how it affected him.
He blinked, visibly trying to regroup. “I … um. Something about the warrant.”
“Mmh. Very coherent.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Liv, you’re doing that on purpose.”
“Doing what?”
He exhaled sharply. Shutting the file with a finality, he turned to her. “No. Absolutely not. I know this game.”
She smirked. “What game?”
“The one where you pretend you’re innocent while actively trying to kill me.”
“Maybe you’re just distracted.”
He set the file aside entirely. “Keep going.”
“Going?”
“Yes,” he said, moving closer, voice dropping to a whisper. “Keep pretending you don’t know what you’re doing.”
She felt heat flicker low in her stomach. “And what exactly am I doing?”
He leaned in, barely brushing her knee with his fingers. “You’re trying to start something you won’t be able to finish.”
“Oh?” she challenged. “What makes you think that?”
His eyes darkened, the same burning look from nights they didn’t dare talk about in public. “Because once I start, you lose your ability to talk back.”
“That’s not true.”
“Isn’t it?”
She swallowed.
He smirked, slowly. “You started this,” he murmured, brushing a thumb along her thigh. “Now be honest. That’s all I’m asking, and maybe, just maybe... I fuck you until you forget your name. So again, what do you want?”
She met his gaze, breathing uneven. “…I want you.”
His breath stuttered for half a second, then he kissed her, deep and immediate, pulling her onto his lap with a low, satisfied sound.
The file slid to the floor.
“You always do this,” he muttered against her mouth. “You act like you can handle it when we both know exactly how you like it.”
“I can.”
“We’ll see.”
Her fingers tangled in his hair. “Bring it.”
He growled, not loud, but enough to send a shiver down her spine, and kissed her again, pushing her back into the cushions, heat rising quickly.
Yeah.
They were definitely not getting any work done tonight.
