Work Text:

Everywhere else in the world seemed to be quiet, but his heart couldn’t seem to settle down. The sound of it beating would flood his ears, making it impossible to fall asleep. He never knew a girl could have such affect on him, but it was silly to say she was just some girl. Izanami was special—everyone knew that within seconds of laying eyes on her. He was no exception of course, butterflies setting in his stomach when they first met. He would never say it aloud, but apparently others could see right through him, and witness the effect Izanami had on his heart. He figured it go away within time, but with the way he was sat up thinking about how gorgeous her eyes were told otherwise. At the end of the day, she was the only one on his mind.

Out of all times—out of all situations, this is the one he had to fall in love in. That had been the first time Katsuhiko been able to admit that in his head, but he still felt hesitant. Love was a strong word, and truth is he didn’t know if he could handle all those strong feelings. It wasn’t the right time to do so anyways. He would almost feel selfish worrying about something so unimportant, there were bigger things to loose sleep over. But he couldn’t deny his heart no matter how much he tried, his resistance no match for Izanami’s charm. What a strange grace she had to her, it usually would scare him off, but this time it captivated him. Held him at a space between her where he yearned to reach out. It was mysterious, alluring—but it was all her, and that was all he needed to not feel scared. He wanted to know all of her, every flaw, every quirk, and every secret.

But then again, he couldn't get closer to her with all the secrets she carried with her. He didn't mean to be nosy, but finding them out would put his heart at ease. To fear the worst it was something that changed his whole perception of her. Or something that reminded them that she wasn't a goddess, but human—one that came with flaws and all. He definitely found himself guilty of looking at her as if she was otherworldly often, and wondered if it would turn her away from him. Matter of fact, if she could see inside his head and know his feelings for her to their true extent, could it only drive her away from him more.

The very thought made his stomach drop.

He could chide himself for being dramatic later, at a time where Izanami didn't make him feel like a lovesick mess. He selfishly hoped he had the same effect on her as well.

The image of them being able to open themselves in any place else was constantly being painted in his mind, and gave him hope he wasn't being a total fool for her love. Hope that through her eyes, he was just as magnificent. Hope that whatever was between them wasn't one-sided, and they could build it stronger together.

How cheesy. He loved it.

He was embarrassed by it but not so much to deny it any longer, inside the comfort of his head at least. He knew a verbal confession of love in a situation like this was foolish, other than the fact he lacked the courage to do so. He was satisfied with admiring from afar, for how much longer he didn't know.

At least she was by his side. Down the hallway or right across a trial room, his heart fluttered for her any place.
