Chapter Text
Jaskier was walking through the suburban part of the town, he liked it quite a lot, of course not because it was pretty or anything like that, no it was far from that, yet this suburban area had something that the city center which Jaskier adored so much especially if it just so happened to also be Oxenfurt, was Geralt's stupid apartment holding on by hopes and dreams alone that he was on his way too right now.
He texted Geralt a couple of times making sure the guy was home, although he never really went out much it was still good to make sure, sadly the only thing he got out of his best friend were miserable thumbs up emojis like always because this man never bothered responding in full sentences unlike Jaskier who had to stop himself from adding a rhyme to every message he wrote. He rolled his eyes and sighed despite knowing damn well it would look like this and just continued walking admiring the scenery, despite there not being much to admire but since he's a poet he can make it work!
After walking for a while praying he doesn't meet anyone that recognizes him, Jaskier finally arrived at the apartment where the only security is this weird guy who bleached his hair aspiring to become a legendary Witcher who just so happens to be the guy he's here to see… everytime Jaskier puts it this way it truly makes him rethink his life choices and his friendship but oh well Geralt is a good friend nonetheless… just a little weird.
Jaskier knocked on the door a few times before opening the door and seeing an unexpected familiar face.
“Jaskier!” a young girl hugged him, it was Ciri, Geralt's pride and joy but also a child he unintentionally adopted but how that happened is a story for another day, the girl had that bright smile she always did and was as excited as ever to see Geralt's broke poet friend
“Well, hello there little one” Jaskier hugged her back “You know I would've brought something for you if I knew you were here!” as he said that he already started cussing out Geralt's thumbs up emojis in his head, because truly it's not that hard to say when Ciri is over and when she's not
“Oh, you're here” Geralt finally went out of his room, wearing his usual hoodie and headband
“You know I think your keyboard is broken since you keep sending just thumbs up emojis” Jaskier let go off Ciri and walked up to his friend “Maybe you can get Yennefer to fix that for you so you can finally communicate properly”
Geralt stared at Jaskier “no, I think it's fine really” the poet just sighed as no words could describe how he felt, which is ironic since he's always the one who's known for being able to put everything into words.
After that they got to their usual hangout involving Ciri, they played some games, ragequit on 5 separate occasions, ate takeout because neither of them can actually afford anything other than that and ended up watching some anime on Geralt's bed in his room filled with anime posters. The one they watched wasn't suitable for Ciri but clearly Geralt wasn't responsible enough temporary caretaker to care about that, besides she has seen worse by now so it's not really that bad.
Finally after like the 10th bloody scene shown Jaskier decided to make a comment of his own instead of just Geralt occasionally saying that the two male leads are so them core “You know you should probably be more responsible with Ciri and this kind of stuff, I'm pretty sure a kid isn't supposed to watch stuff like this” he pointed at the screen “god I can't imagine you being her legal guardian…”
“But I am” Geralt responded
Jaskier turned to look at him with the most terrified expression of his entire life “You're what.” there was no response this time, just pure silence while Ciri continued to watch the adventures of the Witcher and the Bard in the background. The silence continued as the two stared at each other, Geralt confused while Jaskier's face was a mix of disbelief and absolute horror “But you're unemployed Geralt” he said “GERALT YOU CAN'T BE A LEGAL GUARDIAN YOU'RE LITERALLY UNEMPLOYED.”
“Well I am” he said
“Oh my fucking god.” Jaskier mumbled putting his head in his hands “You know I think I have to go to the bathroom actually” he got up from the bed and left. Arriving at the bathroom he was still horrified, a child? living with an unemployed man? in a one bedroom apartment held by Geralt's determination alone not to mention only eating takeout because he is not capable of affording more? oh no this had no right to go in any good direction…
He took out his phone scrolling through his contacts before finally calling the one who was just saved as the bitch and nothing else but it was fine as Jaskier knew there was only one bitch who deserved to be saved as that.
After a long wait she finally picked up “what's up?” her tone was casual as ever which somehow made it worse even though she probably had no idea
“Yennefer, we are so fucked.” he said
“Wait what?” she responded extremely confused, not to mention that it's Jaskier calling her out of the blue which never happens
“Why is Geralt the legal guardian of Ciri, who supervised this and WHO LET IT HAPPEN.” he almost screamed into the phone but he knew he couldn't as Geralt would hear him
“HE IS WHAT.” Yennefer on the other hand raised her voice as she didn't have to worry about anyone hearing her, besides finding this out from a broke bard and not her boyfriend was certainly an experience she didn't want to have in her entire life… not to mention the conditions Geralt lives in.
