Work Text:
Reed
Reed wasn’t sure why, but Johnny had looked absolutely radiant that evening. And that was why he had decided to make his move.
After many nights of Johnny climbing into his bed at night to “keep him warm”, he was so sure that Johnny had wanted something more. Tonight, was something different about the sparkle in his eyes and grin on his face.
And so, for once in his life, Reed ignored the voice in his head telling him “maybe this isn’t such a good idea”. He reached out and grabbed Johnny.
Johnny
Johnny thought it was odd that Reed had pulled him into the bedroom so early.
“Is it bedtime already?” he’d asked, chuckling nervously.
Reed had a weird smile on his face and seemed to be looking Johnny’s body up and down, but Johnny brushed it off. It probably doesn’t mean anything. Reed has all kinds of quirks that I’ll never understand.
But then, suddenly, Reed was… hugging him? No. Hugs don’t usually involve putting your hands… down there. Johnny was extremely uncomfortable. He didn’t like this. At all.
Reed
Reed felt intense heat under his skin and quickly released his grip so that he wouldn’t get burned.
“What’s that for?” he asked Johnny.
“I don’t want you touching me.”
“You could’ve just told me that.”
“You should’ve asked.” Without another word, Johnny exited the room, leaving Reed in silence.
What had Johnny wanted all this time? Why did he keep climbing into my bed? Why would he want to… Sleep! Of course!
Johnny had struggled with insomnia for years. But when he was in bed with Reed, he actually slept. All he wanted was some comfort. Nothing sexual or even romantic. Just someone to relax with at night. Maybe I shouldn’t have ever let Johnny into my bed to begin with.
But of course, the damage had already been done. Because, as usual, Reed had completely misunderstood the situation. How could he be so smart about everything else, yet so stupid when it came to basic human interactions?
Johnny
He’d never gotten to admit it, but Johnny had started to see Reed as a father figure. Even after Reed had nearly gotten Johnny and the others killed in outer space (which was forgiven since the fire powers he got as a result were totally awesome), he still had so much trust and admiration for him. Sleeping in Reed’s bed had been comforting for him. It made him feel safe. But now he knew what kind of person Reed was. What Reed really wanted from him. And he didn’t think he’d ever be able to look at him the same again.
