Work Text:
While Satsu had left to get some groceries, Kotaro had an idea to surprise her. Around this time of the year, the sun was disappearing rather early to give way to longer nights, so it would already be dark by the time she’d get back. So, he thought it’d be nice to have some Winter Maiden lights around the house, all lit up to welcome her upon her return.
He grabbed the long string of firefly lights and began climbing the ladder. With the string on his shoulder, he started fixing up some nails on the front face of the house. But as he was installing the first corner of the tube, a stray bird feather flew by, gently caressing the tip of his nose. Kotaro flinched, tried to retain a sneeze, but only managed to make it even more powerful. His foot slipped, and he fell to his doom.
When Satsu came back home right after nightfall, she was surprised to see Kotaro, tangled up in the firefly string and hanging over the door. She giggled and walked over.
“Nui bless you. What were you even trying to do?”
“I wanted to surprise you by decorating the house” Kotaro admitted sheepishly, cheeks pink with embarrassment.
“Decorating isn’t achieved but I am indeed surprised” she teased.
Satsu freed Kotaro and proposed to exchange their roles. The young man accepted, though somewhat disappointed, and set off inside to put the groceries away. Meanwhile, Satsu managed to put the lights up on her own, despite it being nighttime.
