As the sun shone brightly in the blue sky of unstable, Spoke sat on the floor of his provisional base, legs resting on the wall and gaze lost in the roof. He could hear Mapicc moving around, probably organizing something in the chests.
Whatever.
Spoke was so bored. He had to hide some time in this provisional base before going to hide in another person's base or something fun.
The place he was now was not uncomfortable; it had two rooms with cozy beds and soft sheets. But it was boring; he had nothing to do all day, maybe just bother Mapicc or plan some prank.
Talking about pranks, he had a very good one in mind.
You see, Spoke was a creature of the void, with black smoky skin and bright white eyes. He could modify slightly his appearance, often preferring two cat-ear-like ponytails with some messy strands for his hair and claw-like hands.
But, by far, the most interesting thing he could do was shapeshift into other people, same voice, same hair, same everything.
The bad aspect? He could only shapeshift into dead people.
So, the prank Spoke was planning was maybe a bit cruel… but he had done it before! It didn't end that well, but surely this time we wouldn't get chased with a mace.
This time, he was going to shapeshift into Parrot's best friend, Wifies!
He knew the dog hybrid had died not so long ago, and surely Parrot would be happy to see his best friend once again, right?
Well, the thing is, Spoke didn't really know how Wifies had died; Mapicc had told him something a few weeks ago.
But it surely was not that bad, and the prank was going to go well; he and Parrot were going to share a laugh!.
So, Spoke got up and went to search for Mappic, finding his friend sitting beside the chests, organizing something.
"I am going to go out for a bit," he announced, a smile tugging his lips. Mapicc threw him a skeptical glance but handed him the elytra.
Spoke shouted a loud "thanks!!" Before putting the metal wings on and shooting in the sky with a rocket. He giggled, emotion tickling in his body. He missed having so much fun like this!!
He arrived in the capital city fairly quickly. Landing some meters away from the entrance, closing his eyes and slowly remembering how Wifies looked.
In the matter of just seconds, where Spoke had stood was an exact copy of Wifies, with grayish-brown hair and a purple bandana, with two dog-like ears peeking up from the top of his head. His eyes were dark brown, with a faint purple glint.
Wifies, Spoke smiled. Walking through the gates of the capital city and making his way towards Parrot's potion shop.
...
Parrot was sitting behind the counter; the familiar sound of potions being made and people talking was making him sleepy. He could hear Theo moving around on the second floor, humming a melody he heard somewhere.
The day had been calm. Just a few people came to the shop, most buying just a few things.
The avian was relaxed. He was going to close in a few and go up to talk to Theo, probably ask him to help with his wings before bed, and maybe even play some card game or something.
Parrot yawned, stretching his arms and wings to get rid of the tiredness. He let out a soft chirp, his feathers puffing up a bit. He turned to climb the stairs, grabbing some potions to go and store.
His day was going perfectly.
Until…
"Hello there."
That voice.
Parrot's body froze in place, his blood turning cold, limbs tensed so hard that they started shaking.
No, it couldn't be him.
He was dead.
He killed him.
He killed him.
"You're not going to turn around to see your friend?" The person, Wifies, asked, his voice calm.
His tone was warm and caring. Just like when he…
"Parrot...give that to me before you hurt yourself."
No.
No.
It couldn't be.
The avian turned around, breath ragged and heavy, his heart pounded in his ears with such force that it drowned everything else.
It was him.
Same grayish-brown curls, same kind and caring brown eyes, same smile.
Parrot couldn’t breathe; his hands shook so much that he dropped the potions he had, the crystals hitting the floor with force, shattering with a loud noise.
"Parrot? Is everything okay?" Theo's worried voice called him from the second floor.
But the avian couldn't respond; his eyes were glued to his 'dead' friend. How was he alive? He died.
"Wifies was blown up by ParrotX2."
"Wifies—" Parrot tried to say, his voice breaking painfully. The dog hybrid took a step forward, his smile never leaving his face.
He looked like his friend. Like his wifies.
Not the director. Not like his obsessive and controlling best friend.
The one that had been his best friend through all the adventures and scavenger hunts.
The wifies that stood in front of him had shiny eyes, not the crazy and tormented ones. His hair was silky and soft, far from the messy one Parrot last saw him with.
Parrot wanted to run away and go hide in his nest in the hope that this was just a nightmare.
He also wanted to lunge forward and wrap his arms around Wifies and dig his fingers into the grayish-brown curls. His chest ached with the urge to see if this was his Wifies.
"Parrot," Wifies smiled, opening his arms in a warm gesture. The avian let out a broken chirp; tears he did not know were gathering in his eyes started to fall down his cheeks. Parrot rushes forward and almost falls as he jumps over the counter and hugs Wifies with all his strength. He buries his face into the dog hybrid's neck, starting to really cry.
"Wifies, I missed you s—so much. Why did you change? Why did you do all those things and now come back? I—I just—" Parrot tripping over through his own words, clutching harder the man in his arms. He felt so many different things at the same time that his body didn't really know how to react.
He felt arms lightly wrap around him before Wifies shoulders started trembling. Was he crying?.
Then, he hears laughter.
Parrot flinches back, vision blurry with tears, and the person in front of him smiles mockingly. The sound of his laughter distorted as the perfect copy of Wifies appearance shifted.
Skin melting to reveal pure white eyes and dark ponytails shaped like cat ears. The void creature laughs once more, showing his sharp fangs, as Parrot stares in pure shock.
Spoke.
"You should see your face! Did you really think I was Wifies? Remember, we are in a hardcore server; death is forever!!" Spoke chuckled, eyes glowing with laughter. Parrot clenched his fists in anger.
Of course it wasn't Wifies!. How naive of him to believe his former friend could still be alive.
Was he consumed by guilt so bad that he just believed Spokes's stupid joke? No, of course not.
He clenches his teeth, an angry click leaving his mouth. Tears continue to fall down his face, hot against his skin.
"Spoke. Get out." He growled, turning away to hide his face. The void creature makes a confused sound, tilting his head.
"Parrot? Don't get mad; it was just a joke." Spoke's tone was more serious now, his smile wavering. He backed up, the shine of his eyes dimming.
"I said get out." Parrot's voice broke, his shoulders shaking. The void creature tried to reach Parrot, but the avian pulled away with force.
"Get out!" He shouted this time, anger lashing his tone, making Spoke flinch. He nodded and equipped his elytra, disappearing with a comet sound.
Parrot saw Spoke fade into the sky before dropping to the floor, enveloping himself with his wings, shoulders shaking as he sobbed.
Why did he fall for that stupid joke?
Why did he want to see Wifies again?
He didn't have answers for that question right now, so he could only bear with his feelings by crying into his hands, feeling almost betrayed by his own mind.
