Partially Deaf

Summary:

Silence.

That's all you heard as you covered your ears in a vain attempt to comfort yourself. The slick feeling of blood trickled down the side of your face as you gasped for air, crouching behind a busted piece of the Krei Corporations building to escape Callaghan's microbots. Your suit was tattered, ripped to shreds from all the damage you had taken, your helmet's faceplate was shattered completely, effectively cutting off your scanner, and not only that, the whole left side had been blown off, the side where most of your blood flowed. You couldn't hear anything from your left side, nor could you hear the team desperately calling out for you, the speaker in your helmet broken from the blast it had sustained. You were panicking, your breaths speeding up until you were more than sure you were hyperventilating.

You slipped your hand up the side of your helmet, pressing the button that activated your microphone. You took a shaky intake of breath, and let it out slowly. “This is (Name).” You started, noticing your voice had become strained and raspy. “I'm stuck behind a busted piece of the corporation. My speaker is damaged and I can't hear any of you, and I hope you guys can hear me. My faceplate is completely damaged, and I-I can't hear anything from my left ear.” You let out another shaky breath. “I need... I need...”

Your breath was knocked from your body as you crashed into the ground from an explosion off your left side, knocking your helmet completely off. Your head smashed back into the ground, your focus becoming disoriented as the world spun around you. You felt an oncoming headache and cried out from the pain of the impact. Your eyes burned with tears and you hesitantly closed them, blocking out the harsh light of the sun. This was it, your body was too weak and ached all over from pain. You started writing off the list of people in your head, apologizing for failing them, starting with your parents. You closed your eyes as you came to the end of your long list, finally slipping unconscious.

You blinked your eyes open and groaned in discomfort, looking around the sterile white room in confusion. You had no clue where you were and the only thing you remembered was a blast that shook your whole body. You moved your aching hand up and rubbed your eyes, blinking away the fuzziness before you looked at a figure huddled in a chair, eyes closed, lips pursed, and head drooping from sleep. He had a familiar blue hoodie and khaki shorts that went a little past his knees. Underneath his blue hoodie was a red shirt with a robot on it and something fuzzy and small was cuddled into his chest. You racked your brain for a name, smiling triumphantly when you found one.

Hiro Hamada.

“Hiro?” You called groggily over to the sleeping male, watching as he jerked in his seat and looked around frantically. For a moment he looked dazed and confused, unable to comprehend who was calling his name. His chocolate brown orbs finally landed on your form and he let out a sigh in relief, pushing himself out of the chair before hurrying over to you.

“Your awake! Are you okay?! Of course you're not okay, you just got blown up by a massive explosion. Do you feel any pain? Of course you do, explosion caused it.” He smacked his forehead in annoyance at his own stupidity.

“Hiro.” You murmured softly, resting a hand on his arm. “I feel fine, honestly. I'm sore, and my head hurts, but I'm alive.” You gave him a soft smile, and relaxed back into the bed again, looking at the fuzzy present in his arms. Hiro gave you a nod, looking down at his hands before a jolt ran through him.

“Oh. Um. I-I got this for you.” Hiro smiled at you sheepishly, handing you a stuffed (favorite animal). You smiled at him a little wider and accepted the small gift, hugging it close to your chest. He looked nervous, his hands shaking and his breathing heavy, you began to wonder what was bothering him until he finally caved in and told you what was wrong. “When that first explosion when off near your ear, it created a small tear in your tympanic membrane, cutting off your hearing just a little bit. When the other explosion happened, it created a huge tear in the membrane and effectively cut off your hearing. You were out for three days, a-and they couldn't repair your injured ear.”

You blinked at him before pressing a finger to your left ear, noticing you, in fact, hadn't been able to hear anything from your left side at all. “I'm... I'm deaf?”

“P-Partially! They said they might be able to fix it within a few years, but just not right now. I-I'm so sorry, I should have been there to save you, thanks to me, your deaf.” He sighed in defeat, shoulders sulking as he lowered his head.

You captured his cheek in your hand and pulled his face to look up at you, a sad smile on your lips. “Hiro, it's okay. I promise. I'm not mad.” His chocolate orbs stared back into your own, his mouth opening to argue back against you, but you pulled him down closer to your face, lips hovering just centimeters away from his. “Hiro Hamada, I am not going to say this again, it is okay, I promise. I am not mad in any way shape or form. I took it upon myself to join Big Hero 6, and I knew the dangers that came with the job. Stop blaming yourself.”

His eyes still held a look of guilt, but he nodded and let out a soft sigh. Your eyes sparkled with affection for the young genius and you closed the gap between his mouth and yours. You felt your cheeks burn bright as your lips moved against his in a way that reminded you of falling snow, soft and slow. Hiro's warm hand moved to cup your chin, his head tilting to the left. Your lips molded and meshed together in a soft embrace, the feeling of his lips against yours causing your heart to flutter in your ribcage.

His lips were soft and squishy, slightly chapped but still held so much flavor to them. He was inexperienced in the art of kissing, but so were you so it didn't matter too much. You felt your teeth scrape against his, and you pulled away, letting your eyes flutter open. You met his gaze with a sheepish smile and giggled, pecking his lips before laying back down in the bed. His mouth was wide open in awe, eyes searching yours with a smile slowly crawling on his lips.

“Y-You kissed me.” He murmured, eyes shining with amusement and a hint of affection

“Yes, I did.” You responded, taking his hand in your own.

“Why?”

“Because I love you. Always have and always will.” You explained, drowsiness starting to seep into your skin again. Hiro started to notice this too, and he started to walk back to his chair when your hand shot out and grabbed his.

“Please, stay with me.” You yawned and laced your fingers together with his. He blinked at you before nodding, crawling into the bed with you, his arms awkwardly wrapping around your waist. You smiled as you stared into his beautiful eyes, pressing a soft kiss to his chin. “Love you.”

“Love you too, now get some rest, I'll be here when you wake up.”

“Do you promise?”

“Promise.”

Honey Lemon, Wasabi, GoGo, and Fred walked through the halls of the San Fransokyo Emergency Center , making light conversations to not disturb some of the sleeping patients. They had all rushed to the hospital when Hiro had contacted them saying (Name) was awake, and to bring Baymax with them. (Name) absolutely positively adored the giant marshmallow puff, and Hiro thought it'd make her happy to see him.

Upon entering (Name)'s room, the group stopped and stared, completely shocked at what they saw.

(Name) was cuddled into Hiro's chest. Hiro had his arm slung around her waist with a content smile on his face. They were both asleep.
