As soon as Nicky had left the house, Joe started acting really weird, and every time Nile asked Joe what he was doing, he would say nothing. So, when Nile saw Nicky return, she decided to ask him about Joe's behaviour.
Nile: "Uhm, Nicky. I need to ask you something about Joe."
Nicky: "Okay."
Nile: "Why is Joe acting weird today?"
Nicky: "Define weird."
Nile: "Come, let me show you."
Nicky followed Nile around the house and into the garden so they could look into the living room's window, where they saw Joe had thrown the couch cushions on the floor.
Nicky: "Oh, that. You don't need to worry about Joe. He is pretending not to be searching for his Christmas gifts."
Nile: "He is such a big child, and curious as hell."
Nicky chuckled while looking lovestruck at Joe.
Nicky: "Both things are true."
Nile: "And do you know why he is carrying around his sketch book?"
Nicky: "That's all a part of his big plan of pretending not to be searching for his Christmas gifts."
Nile: "Big plan? I don't follow."
Nicky: "Let me show you. Go inside and tell Joe that you got a text from me, saying that I'm home soon."
Nile did what Nicky asked her to do, and when she entered the living room, Joe didn't notice her because he was looking inside a big vase.
Nile: "Uhm, Joe, Nicky just texted me. He is home soon."
Joe looked over at Nile.
Joe: "Thanks for telling me, Nile."
Never before had Nile seen Joe clean up his mess this fast as he did, and seconds before Nicky entered the house, Joe threw himself down on the couch and started to draw in his sketchbook. When Joe saw Nicky, he was trying to look really innocent, which was very funny to watch.
Joe: "Hi, Babe. I was thinking, should we go and see the big Christmas tree downtown?"
Nicky: "Sounds wonderful. And we could also eat dinner while we're there."
Joe: "Perfect. When do we leave?"
Nicky: "Well, if I could get some help with carrying the groceries inside, then we can leave faster."
Joe: "Since you did all the shopping, leave the groceries to me."
Joe got up from the couch and looked at Nile.
Joe: "If it's okay with Nicky, do you wanna join us?"
Nicky: "I don't have a problem with that."
Nile: "I would love to go with you both. All I need is to take a shower before we leave."
Joe: "You do that while I deal with the groceries."
Nicky: "And what should I do in the meantime?"
Joe: "Just stand there and look sexy."
Joe winked at Nicky before he left the living room.
Nile: "So, is Joe anywhere closer to finding his Christmas gifts?"
Nicky: "Not at all, but if you think what you saw today is funny, just wait for what happens tomorrow."
Nile: "What do you mean?"
Nicky: "Tomorrow, he will offer to clean the entire house under the pretext that I need to preserve my energy for other fun things."
They both laughed, just as Joe walked past them with the groceries.
Joe: "While I remember it, Nicky, could I ask you to remind me I need to buy new sketch books before our next mission?"
Nicky: "Of course."
Joe kissed Nicky before heading for the kitchen.
Nile: "I need fifteen minutes to get ready."
Nicky: "Take the time you need, Nile. We are in no hurry at the moment."
Nile nodded before she left, and Nicky joined Joe in the kitchen.
Joe: "Oh, something else. You haven't told me what you wish for Christmas."
Nicky: "You know my Christmas wishes. Books and another year with you."
Joe: "Yeah, I know, but maybe you wish for more this year."
Nicky: "I'll let you know if there is more. I promise."
Joe: "Good. When I've put the groceries away, I am going to kiss you, because if you ask me, it's an excellent way to spend the time waiting for Nile to get ready."
Nicky laughed.
Nicky: "I agree with you."
Nicky decided to sit on the kitchen counter, and the moment Joe had put the groceries away, he walked over to Nicky so that they could kiss.
Nile: "I'm ready."
Joe: "Great. Give us a second to finish here."
After one last kiss, Joe and Nicky joined Nile, and they left the house so they could go downtown and watch the big Christmas tree.
