Chapter Text
Lucifer and Al got sent off to some big dinner. Their goal was supposed to be to gain support for the hotel with the overlords present. Alastor figured that Charlie should have gone herself, but he guessed she just wanted a break from him and Lu's bickering.
They were sitting together and Al was pointedly not listening to whatever Lu was saying to another overlord when his ears caught the subtle sound of static. He looked without turning and sure enough. Vox has gotten a new body and, had decided that this would be his debut. Lucky for him Vox hasn't noticed him yet.
Lucifer's chat buddy left him surely board. Al leaned over to Lucifer and spoke in a wipser.
"You remember that tv head guy?"
"Yeah he kidnapped and tortured me, that yeah, I remember that."
"He's here you want to piss him off?"
"Yeah but, you know I cant hurt him."
"Pretend to be dating me."
"What? Oh you want to hold my hand bambi?"
"Too piss him off, I will. Don't let it go to your head."
"Why will it piss him off anyways?"
"He has a massive crush on me."
"Really?"
"World ending"
Lucifer looked over at TV man who was deep in conversation. "Ok come on" Lu hopped out of his chair and offered Alastor his hand. Al cringed at the idea but Vox's face was going to be priceless so he took it.
They made their way over till they were a few feet away and Al stopped them. "Hahaha thats so funny!" Al said too loud to Lu. Vox hadn't even finished turning his head before lightning over to them. "Oh hi Vox didn't see you there." Vox looked ready to fight him again right there and then befor noticing Alastor's hand in Lucifer's.
"You're shitting me. Him! You're joking right." Vox's face scrunched and glitched beautifully. "Hum I guess I just found someone to my standards Vox." Alastor was all venom. Vox's body had sparks jumping across it. "But, he's so short!" Lu rolled his eyes. "Maybe I just know how to treat my partners right sparky!"
Vox honned his attention on him, making a point to lean down "Oh does this mean you went though with the divorce or are you just a dirty cheater?" Lu went red and. horns started to form. Alastor took back the ball. "You're one to talk Vox, is Valentino still publicly disowning you? He should really break up with you after that stunt you pulled." Alastor had Vox's full attention again. He got closer to him but he held his ground. "We're fine actually better than fine that's why I'm here, to establish the Vees as the power house we are!" Lu perked up, "Sounds like he just wanted you out of the house."
Vox growled "Well LU, isn't dating a lowly sinner kind of dating down for you." Al cut in "You know full well that dating me is not dating down." Vox pulled back from them as if he wasn't sure what he'd do if he stayed close. "How long has this been going on anyways I haven't been gone that long." Vox brushed non-existing dirt off of himself. Al grinned, "I dont know Vox how long did it take you to grow back your body?"
Vox growled at him "You were a bloody mess!" "At least I got to walk away." Vox growled deeper. Then breathed, "You know what? Fuck this! Have fun with the paparazzi." He flipped them off, snapped his finger and zapped away.
Within seconds they were surrounded by drones. The phones around them notifying. All eyes when on them. Al's ears pinned back. "Come on" he pulled Lu alongside him all but storming to an open balcony they escaped out of. "That was rich did you see his face, fucking priceless!" Lu said with actual giddy. Al ignored him looking out at the city hoping Lucifer didn't notice that he got unnerved. Lu turned angry, "Don't ignore me you had fun I saw it!" Al laughed softly "don't look so scolding the cameras can still see us out here." Lu looked out to the city "What do you mean?"
Al wondered how he'd lived this long and knew so little. "Vox is going to have every camera on us for at least the next news cycle." "And your upset about it?" "I dont like so many eyes being on me..."
Lu pulled out a box from his coat. "You want a smoke?" Al raised an eyebrow "You smoke?" "No but you do. You left it on the counter and I took it." Alastor glared and took the box back from him. Wordlessly he offered one to Lu and took one for him self.
Lu snaped and lit his thumb and lighted his cigarette. Al leaned in to light his. "I've always wanted to do that," Lu chimed. "You haven't?" "I don't know any smokers" this actually made sense with everything Al knew about him.
Alstor breathed out smoke "You know this is kind of perfect. I used to smoke with him. He'll be watching us now seething." Al chuckled to him self softly. The wind was chilled aginst there skin. "How'd you know him what's his deal?"
Al turned seeing a drone watching him only to disappear upon being noticed. "I told you he had a crush on me. Wanted me to be part of his stupid team. Got all pissy when I said no." "Right but you smoked together? Were you like an item?" "Hardly. Why so inquisitive?" Lu shrugged. "You know when a guy tortures you and apparently threatened to kill everyone maybe I'd like to know why."
Al thought about it. Watching the smoke between them now. "He wanted us to be something it wasn't, so I broke his heart. It's really that simple." "Hum I guess I can see it." Al raised an eyebrow, "See what?" "You're going to make me say it now aren't you?" "Yes, spit it out." Lu sighed and tapped his hands on the railing of the balcony. "You're quite.... pretty." "Pretty? Wow thanks." Lu's tone dropped to insult, "Yeah you're pretty boy!" He grinned like this was devastating.
Lu coughed on the smoke. Al watched him struggle, "You really don't smoke do you?" "Nope this is my first." "Old as time itself and you've never smoked." Lu huffed. "This is a relatively new fangled invention you know." "Not often I get to call someone old." Lu laughed.
"Should we get back to what we're supposed to be doing?" Lu asked. Alastor turned slightly to look through the window. He saw Vox trying hard to look like he wasn't staring at them while talking to someone else.
"I don't know what the point is, everyone knows about the hotel. Charlie saved all of their lives. If that doesn't get them on board nothing will." Alastor drawls. Lu smiled half laughing as he spoke. "Maybe tv guy has a point about rehabilitating his image. Last time the public saw you, you were bleeding out on the ground!" "And last the public saw you, you were being humiliated by Vox on live tv."
They both cringed at there public failures. Alastor mused, "We could milk this attention for all that it's worth. Get the people behind us using Vox's own propaganda machine. Piss him off even more and reclaim some sense of prowess in the public eye at the same time. Might even help the hotel in a round about way..."
Lu studied Al's expression for a trick or a deception. "You want us to let bygones be bygones?" "Just for a couple of weeks, I think then people will grow bored of our little pretend drama." Lu thought about it, "I do really hate that guy, did you hear the stuff he was saying about Charlie? I'd kill him myself if I could." "So it's a deal?" Lu all but jumped "woah woah!" he made an 'x' with his arms. "No deals just an agreement." Al's grin widened, "Just an informal agreement then."
After the party they started walking back to the hotel, Lu trailing behind Alastor. They were in an alley when a vine of cables appeared from the dark, slamming Lucifer into the ground. Vox appeared and slammed him into the wall infront of him. "You really think I'm just going to let you have him?" Vox growled his voice heavily distorted. Lu struggled to escape "Vox!" Alastor had a warning tone. His antlers growing, he growled, "Let him go now." Vox looked genuinely baffled by the display.
"Are you serious! Him? This puny weakling can't even defend himself, and you're seriously going to choose him, over me!" There was almost a cry in Vox's voice it was glitching around the edges.
"I know you love to hurt defenseless things but, I need you to let him go now!" Alastor made an Elk cry as he grew in size.
Vox went on undeturred "He's nothing, you know we had something!" He looked like he might cry.
"I know you're still weak now Vox. The only reason I'm not attacking you now is because you'll zap away making it a waste of energy. Now leave before I see if I actually can kill you." Vox's expression fell, he dropped Lucifer and zapped away.
Lu groaned and looked at Al, unsure what to make of what just happened. "Thank you?" "Don't mention it."
