Work Text:

Eden laid in his bed with his nose stuffy, eyes sore, and a small headache. He had just got done crying in his room, his friend being there for everything and comforting him through the mess. Which would be normal if he hadn’t fallen asleep on the other, how embarrassing.

His heart still ached slightly but it felt better after getting everything out of his system. Life wasn’t too kind to him recently but that was okay it was far from the worst feeling in the world and it would pass eventually.

But Eden’s mind lingered on one thing… Jodio. His best friend, the one who conveniently had the pleasure of witnessing him in this state

If you asked Eden about Jodio and him he’d probably tell you it’s complicated, because it was.

Jodio always appeared to be very mean to Eden, but he knew that wasn’t the case… Jodio was just blunt, but he cared about the other even if he has his own way of showing it.

Eden then remembered what he was thinking about before… god he hated the way it made his heart race.

He shook his head. No, no way he had a crush on Jodio. I mean that would be crazy…

After that day things seemed to lighten up more. Eden was happier knowing that he at least had someone who cared about him.

The pair were walking around the mall looking for any way to kill time.

“Oh! Eden, you know where we should go?”

“Where?”

“The arcade! That’d be the perfect spot to kill time at yeah?”

“Oh yeah. So, do you have any money on you?”

“Duh” He grinned, already getting ready to head over.

Eden stared at him for a second contemplating whether he was in the mood for an arcade trip, which was useless because he already knew the answer.

“Then let’s go over there.”

The two boys waked to the arcade and got straight into playing games. It was just Jodio if we were going to be honest, but Eden enjoyed watching him have fun. He always admired the way he got excited about this stuff.

Whilst Jodio was playing some random game where he had to stop something at the right time, Eden was kind of just staring at him, there were a lot of things to notice about a persons face Eden thought. Like how many freckles adorned his cheeks, how his braces glimmered under the bright lights of the arcade, or the way he pursed his lips, and his eyebrows twitched when he was focused hard on something. Eden was soon pulled out of his train of thought though.

“Agh! Damn it I missed the spot again…”

“Again? You’re gonna burn all your tokens on this one game you know.”

“Yeah, you’re right…”

“Do you mind if I try a game really quick?”

“Huh? No go ahead.”

Jodio handed him the card so Eden could play something.

“Thanks.”

Eden made his way over to the crane game and swiped the card.

“What? You know these things are like stupid rigged right?”

“Just give me a moment.”

Eden moved the crane around analyzing the assortment of plushies in the machine, eventually hovering over one and pressing the button.
The crane slowly lowered and squeezed a plushie of a rabbit, raising it and dropping it in the hole.

“Oh, wow I got it! Woohoo.” He put his hands in the air doing a short jazz hand, a small smile crossing his lips.

“Wh- how did you just do that!”

“I got lucky I guess?”

Eden knelt down and picked up the rabbit.

“You like rabbits, right?”

“Huh? Yeah why?”

He handed the rabbit over to the other.

“Here you can have it. Think of it as a thank you for a few days ago.”

“Oh- Thanks. And I’m glad you feel better now or whatever…”

Eden didn’t know why that made his chest feel warm, but it did.

Eden shook his head slightly “Well enough about that.”

Eden handed Jodio back the card.

“We’ve still got all day, yeah?”

Jodio nodded, taking the card “Right!”

The boy ran off to go try his luck at more games Eden never trailing far behind.

Eden’s smile from before stayed on his face as he watched the other get mad over games, Jodio never failed to endear him, did he?
