Work Text:

The Switch 2

Ryan Atwood often is left in a state of amazement at his friend Seth and how much fun Seth is getting out of life, and he wonders what it would be like to be him.

Ryan quietly laughs at his own mind pondering the idea as the impossible thought passes through his mind, and he wonders what Seth is doing now because he was on a date with Summer.

Summer was getting seriously ticked off as she watched Seth stare into the sky, deep in his own thoughts. If he only knew that Ryan was thinking the same things but for different reasons.

Seth often admired his best pal Ryan because he was tough, naturally a ladies' man, and a good friend. The sky was dark blue, filled with billions of stars, but before he knew it, a shooting star flew overhead.

He points it out to his girlfriend, Summer. As they followed the star, they both made a wish, and Ryan Atwood watched as the star flew out of sight. He decides to go to bed since Seth was not going to be back for a while.

The sun shines on Seth's face as he wakes up, climbs out of bed, and heads for his side bathroom attachments. Seth stares into the mirror as he waits for his vision to align, no longer seeing double, and in a moment of complete shock, he jumps.

He stared at himself in the mirror; the reflection was not of himself, but it was of Ryan, his best friend, buff, sexy as fuck, and everything he dreams of being. Seth smiles at himself in the mirror, and he quickly gets his new body dressed as he runs out of the room and into the pool house.

Seth: Ryan, Ryan, wake up. Seth says jumping in bed like a kid.

Ryan: What do you want, Seth? He growls with annoyance on his face.

Seth: I think you will want to see this. He says all giddy.

Ryan: Seth I am trying to sleep here. He replies, rolling onto his back and sighing.

Seth: Just get up. I promise you won't be disappointed. He says, hopping off the bed.

Ryan: I better not be after this latest outburst. He says, putting a hand through his hair. What is it, Seth? He walks into the mirror.

Ryan got up, waiting for his vision to align, and nearly fell off his bed as he realized that he was conversing with himself. Seth was smiling as he pulled out a mirror and positioned it in Ryan's face as he waited for another response.

Ryan stares at himself in the mirror, poking himself every once in a while to make sure it was really him.

Seth: You know, Ryan, a great philosopher once noted we can feel just about anything in a dream. He says, pointing his finger up to say it’s a fact.

Ryan: Seth, this is not funny. He grimaces.

Seth: Oh, actually, I find it very funny. He starts clapping like an idiot.

Ryan: How the hell are we supposed to go through the day like this? He says, laying his hands on his hips.

Seth: Well, um, it’s simple. Seth taps his toes.

Ryan: Simple? He looks at himself, preparing himself.

Seth: Yeah, you’re Seth, and I am Ryan. He says confidently.

Ryan: I am Ryan, and that's final. Ryan responds within a grunt.

Seth: Are you sure about that? Seth jokes skipping about.

Ryan: There are times when I really want to hurt you. He says, raising a fist.

Seth: I know it’s my gift. Seth is all aglee.

Ryan: Seriously, what are we going to do? Pounding the wall.

Seth: We are just going to have to pretend like everything is normal. Seth says, shrugging.

Ryan: Fat chance anybody will believe us. Ryan sits back on the bed.

Seth: Well, I am off… See you. Playing it cool.

Ryan: Where are you going? Ryan adds, crossing his arms.

Seth: To the arcade—this should be very interesting. Doing a fist pump.

Ryan: Not in my body. Wagging a finger.

A knock on the door woke Seth up from his sleep; he was in for the biggest surprise in the world. Seth raises his body off of his bed to hear Ryan's voice calling to him, and when he looks up, he sees himself staring right back.

They simultaneously screamed as they stared at each other and realized it was not a dream after all.
