Chapter Text
“COME ON” I yell to the rest of the quintet.
“WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING TOGETHER REMEMBER YOU GUYS ALL AGREED AND EVEN IF YOU DIDN’T THE INSTRUCTORS ARE FORCING US”
I hear sighs from all across the tree house. We barely know each other that well and it’s also apparently quite obvious to the instructors.
Evelyn drops her notebook and pen, pushes on her glasses further up her nose and climbs out of her bed, Theo fold the page of his book and walks to the table, Ruko stops organising her desk and walks over and last but not least Rowan stops writing his letter to his parents and comes over to the table.
“Alright here are the facts gang” Theo starts
“We need to get to know each other properly and quickly, I know we’re all introverts except for Rowan here-“
“HEY there nothing wrong with being an air wielder” Rowan yells
I see Ruko roll her eyes and I’m trying to hide my grin
I may not known them well but I do think we’ll get along.
“-but if we want to not get as noticed by the instructors for something like this we got to spend more time together” Theo continues
A collective groan starts to go around the table
“He’s right guys, do we want to get declared nomad out or get our assess kicked by the other quintets not knowing each other” I ask
I doubt they’ll do that but I’m not taking any chances with that
“I suppose so” Evelyn grumbles
I’ve rarely ever heard Evelyn talk but when she does it always comes out muffled through her hood always covering her face.
“I propose we go out and do something somewhere” Rowan says
“I say we stay home and cook something together” Ruko says
“Can’t we just play truth or dare it gets really juicy especially when it comes to crushes” I ask not realising that truth or dare isn’t a known game here on the island
“What’s truth or dare” Theo asks
Fuck
How do I explain that it’s when I tell people your secrets or do something you’ll probably regret for your whole life
“Oh it’s just a mainland game, it’s very boring.” I reply
Evelyn understand what I mean
“Yes truth and dare isn’t very fun” Evelyn adds
“Can we please just go out and grab a bite to eat or something” Rowan asks
I begin to zone out as the argument continues
I start thinking about Evelyn’s drawings she tries to hide when I come near, Theo’s attention to detail and how smart he really is, Ruko’s playfulness and joy she brings when she’s around, and Rowans excitement to the littlest things even when it’s just getting ready for training.
I realise that I know so much more about them that I though I knew.
“SYLVIE, SYLVIE, SYLVIE” I hear 4 different voices yelling at me.
And all of a sudden I’m back back into the present back to getting to know them.
I gasp surprise filled my face. They noticed I zoned out. They actually noticed me.
“Are you alright?” Theo asks me, studying my expression
“Ye” I mutter
“I just zoned out”
“Ok well that all good but we decided on what to do” says Rowan
“Yep we’re going on a night flight across the eyrie” Evelyn says her voice seems excited for once
“That sounds like a great idea. Let’s go we don’t have training tomorrow.” I reply
I see Rowan check his watch and I check my alarm clock at the side of my bed.
It read 9:30pm
“We better get going I guess” Ruko says to the rest of the quintet.
I grab a hoodie and the rest follow my lead and grab one too.
We silently climb down the ladder
I’m not sure we’re meant to be doing this but I’m sure we’ll be fine
We creep around the rest of the other treehouses until we reach the stable.
One by one we each come out with our unicorn.
Me with Shadow Soul, Rowan with Hurricane Wreckage, Ruko with Ocean Treasure, Evelyn with Midnight Meadow and Theo with Forest-Fire’s Blaze.
Oh my fucking god, we actually look like a proper quintet, not like the 5 individual we used to look like.
I can see everyone grinning even Evelyn took of her hood.
“READY?” I ask
“READY” they reply in unison
And at the exact same time we take off.
The felt cool and relaxing. I looked around me and instead of 4 strangers I live with I saw 4 friends I’m yet to get to know better.
I can feel the breeze blow through my hair and for the first time in ages I feel like I’m finally where I belong, with my quintet, with my friends I hope to never fall out with.
We don’t talk, we just fly
Ahh it’s so peaceful here it’s like I’ve been here for years like I already know how to live my life here.
I look down, the lights seem to dim and the light from the moon and stars take over. Well not quite literally but it don’t mind it sounds good.
And then I look around me and notice things I’ve never seen before. The fire from Forest’s tail seems to glow and illuminate around Theo, Evelyn seems happy for the first time I’ve ever seen, Rowan looks like he’s having the time of him life his grin bigger than ever before and even Ruko’s smiling her snow covered hair seemed to glisten even more.
Damn that is a cool mutation but still I love how you can see the bones in my jaw, apparently it looks really cool when I chew.
I can’t help but wish that this would never end but I know that’s not possible.
And soon enough Theo checks his watch.
“FUCK” he yells loud enough for everyone to jerk their heads towards him
“GANG ITS ALREADY 10:30 WE NEED TO HEAD BACK BEFORE WE GET CAUGHT”
We all make eye contact and immediately understand each other.
Race to the stable I can practically hear their thoughts
“3,2,1 GO” Rowan yells at the quintet
And as quick as they could they began to dive towards the warm glow of stable lights.
I arrived 3rd not bad but not amazing either but I so happy I don’t even care.
When I get there I see Rowan and Evelyn arguing about who came first and who came second.
I think the combination of night time flying and the calming effect of the night made me a bit loopy because as soon as the rest of the quintet arrive I pull them into a group hug.
They all look so shocked as I’ve told them I hate hugs more than once.
And to my surprise they don’t resist. We stay there for what seems like all eternity before we pull away.
“Shit we still need to put our unicorns down and get back to the tree house without getting caught” I say.
We all go to our own stables and settle our unicorns down for the night.
Slowly me, Theo, Ruko and Evelyn appeared at the entrance only Rowan was left in the stables, after a few more minutes Rowan came running out of the the feathers in his neck seemed to be electrified and burn.
“I-i-I was-having a little- bit of trouble-getting hurricane to settle down” Rowan panted out of breath
I could see Ruko and Evelyn trying not to laugh and Theo was pretending to cough in order to keep himself from rolling on the floor laughing.
“O-ok” I reply holding back my giggles
“Quick we to get back to the tree house” Evelyn reminds
We silently sneak back the the treehouse quickly climbing up the ladder, helping each other up at the last step.
Wow I guess that nighttime flight really worked
Rowan relied me up and once we were all in the tree house I sigh in relief
We’re all safe and even better seeming to be a normal quintet now.
I’m tired as fuck now so I head straight to bed, I don’t know what the others but I can hear them whispering and for their sake they better not be planning anything on me. Usually I would go find out but considering I’m about to pass out I don’t.
“COME ON!” I yell to the rest of the quintet.
