Work Text:
Dick should be happy.
He was graduating from university and now it was his graduation day.
which was getting closer, but he knew one thing: his mentor, maybe his father, just maybe, because sometimes he doubted if he acted like one.
wasn't there. Of course he had important missions to fulfill, and Dick shouldn't be surprised. He had never been to his school reunions, his presentations, four birthday parties. He could get over it, but graduation was because he and Bruce had been fighting a lot lately, so it's understandable that Bruce would prioritize important things.
He wasn't upset about it; he would get over it, he would get over it, he... he would get over it. He really wanted to believe that,
but now some tears were forming at the corners of his eyes, but they were quickly wiped away. It wasn't time to cry; he should be happy. It's not like he cared about Bruce's opinion, right?
Who is he trying to fool? He desperately wants to see Bruce there; that would be everything to him.
Only that would make him forgive every second Bruce missed at his birthdays, school reunions, presentations, and everything else. He always had better things to do, but this is nothing more than a ridiculous fantasy that will never happen.
He wants to sit on the floor and collapse, wondering if he's the problem, but he has to hold it in. Today is a good day; maybe it could be mediocre if he tries to forget that Bruce exists. He hopes Bruce is succeeding in whatever mission he's on.

Bruce was in trouble.
He had just stopped a crime a little while ago.
Unfortunately, the last member of the criminal group had hidden in a university where a graduation ceremony was about to take place.
Of course, he managed to catch the thief, but now if he gets out, he'll be seen, and it's best to avoid causing trouble with Batman in the crowd.
So he takes off his Batman suit and disguises himself as Bruce Wayne. He could just pass by as Bruce Wayne; nobody would recognize him at such an important moment.
And that's what he does. He's making his way out of the university before the graduation starts. His Batman suit is very well hidden in a backpack he found from the thief. He's almost out.
Wait, was that Dick?
His son was standing there staring at him with wide eyes, dressed as if he were graduating. Wait, that's Dick's university. His graduation was today. Did he forget his son's graduation?
What kind of father is he? But before he could continue thinking about it, Dick jumps on him, his arms wrapped around Bruce. He can feel his son's head on his shoulder and a few sniffles.
"You came! I didn't think you would come! I was wrong about you! Thank you so much for being here, B," Dick said, his voice wet.
Very quickly, Bruce wrapped his arms around the boy again, still wondering if he had forgotten his own son's graduation...
His boy's eyes are shining, it's impossible to tell if they are tears or figuratively, and he starts walking away since the graduation is about to begin and he will have to pick up his degree. Bruce decides to stay since he has a graduation to go to, but still with a great guilt on his face, but he can still fix it... at least this one.
