Chapter Text
The scene starts with Castiel fighting off some government agents. They have witnessed him doing angelic things and obviously want to experiment on him..
The impala pulls up to the area and slams to a halt. Dean jumping out.
Castiel is surrounded. Obviously not wanting to hurt anyone. He's trying to talk to them.
"Please, I'm not a danger. Please. Just let me go-" He's pleading with them. "You've been doing things that shouldn't be possible!" One of the agents say.
"I've told you! I'm an angel of the Lord!" Castiel pleads. "We don't care! We have order to figure out-" one starts saying. Getting interrupted by a car door slamming.
"Step away from my friend," Dean says, eyes narrowing. He knows this is much more complicated than he thought when he got the emergency text from Cas.. its humans they're fighting.. unpredictable, ruthless, humans..
"Who are you?" One asks, pointing at him with their gun. Dean raises his hands. "Okay, okay, my name is Dean. I- just want to help," he says, his hands up.
"Help with?" The one who seems to be the leader, asks, walking forward. "Uh.. why you want my friend here?" Dean says, glancing at Castiel. "Because he's not human. He's dangerous," the leader says.
"...I used to think that way too," Dean says, glancing at his friend. "I used to think everything that wasn't human was a monster, I was raised to believe that," he looks around at the guns pointed at him. "You're naive if you think they aren't," the leader says.
"Can't we all just talk? Without the guns?" Dean asks, eying them all. "No, because we don't know if your not human either," One says. He swallows and steels his face.
"Cas, get in the car," Dean says, his eyes trailing to Castiel. "But Dean, what about-" he says. "In the car. Now. If I tell you to drive, you drive, got it?" Dean snaps. Castiel knows that tone of voice. But he won't listen, he won't let Dean risk his life.
"No! Dean stop! Stop acting like your life is something you can just- throw away!" Castiel suddenly snaps, walking closer to Dean. Dean's eyes widen. "What?" He looks up at Cas.
"Just let someone else protect you for once! Please.. I can't lose you.. I was sent to protect you, Dean. I've already failed before, I won't do it again," Castiel says, hugging Dean in a full body hug. His wings invisible, wrapping around Dean.
"Cas.. what the hell are you doing?" Dean asks, confused. The agents kinda lower their guns, also confused. "Dude, I don't think these two are just friends if ya know what I mean," one agent whispers to their friend, laughing quietly. "Definitely not," the other whispers back. They get glared at by the leader. "Enough!" He snaps.
Castiel tenses up. His invisible wings going stiff in defense. "Stay away from Dean," Castiel says, "your issue is with me, let him go," he looks down at Dean. Then at the leader. Dean goes quiet.
"...I suppose you have a point. More people means more paperwork. Go, Dean, do not tell anyone about what you've seen here," the leader says, gesturing for his agents to lower their guns.
Dean pushes Castiel into Baby and gets in the driver seat, starting to drive.
"Dean! What are you doing!?" Castiel asks, not having time to react before the car starts speading.
They shoot at the impala. "Damn it I just got her fixed," Dean mutters, driving fast. They're fast too, though, already in their cars.
"Cas, you need to drive, I need to get them off our trail," Dean says, reaching into the back. "But- Dean I don't want to hurt them-" Castiel says, worried, taking the wheel.
As Dean was about to throw a glitter bomb that Gabriel had given them out the window. He feels a sharp pain in his head.. He gasps, dropping the bomb, which luckily doesn't explode. "Dean?" Castiel glances at him, still trying to drive. "Dean!?" He screams, noticing the gunshot wound in his head. He throws the glitter bomb to distract them, then stops at a Gas Station.
He tries to heal him. "Dean.. Dean please wake up.. Dean no.. damn it.." he tries to heal him again but nothing happens. "Please, please, damn it! I failed again!" Castiel starts crying. He inhales, he knows he needs to tell Gabriel and Sam and everyone else.
"Gabriel.. come to me.. alone.. and please, do not panic.." Castiel says quietly to the air. "Whats up Cassi-" Gabriel lands in the backseat, eyes widening at the sight in front of him. Castiel crying, Dean in his arms.
"Cassie.. what happened.." Gabriel asks. "G- Government.. They wanted to experiment on me, Dean forced me into the car.. they were gonna let him go. They were going to- why-" Cas says, crying. "I failed again," he stares at Dean's lifeless body.
Dean wakes up sitting in the car. "Ah. What the hell. Cas?.." he looks around. He sees a reaper approaching him. "Nope- no- I'm not dying- put me back in my body- now," Dean says, backing up. "You know if I did, you wouldn't have much of a life, the bullet went through your head, Dean," She says softly.
Dean looks around. "No. No. I still have to protect them-" he says, pleading. He tries to force himself back into his body.
"I.. do you at least know where I'm going..? I'm guessing down there, since Chuck hates me," Dean says, sighing. "I.. think so.." The reaper says. "I'm sorry," she says, putting her hand out.
He looks at Gabriel and Cas. Gabriel is hugging Cas, trying to calm him enough so that Cas can talk. "I'm here brother," Gabriel whispers to Cas, rubbing his back.
"How are we going to tell Sam?" Cas whispers to Gabriel. That made Dean hesitate. He can't leave Sammy again..
"Look, either you come with now, or you're stuck here your whole existence. You know they're gonna give you a hunters funeral, so its not as if you'll have a body," the reaper says. "Take care of Sammy for me, Gabriel.. and Cas," Dean says.
Gabriel looks up for a second, seeing slightly through the veil (because he's an archangel). He nods. Dean swallows and takes the reapers hand.
Dean gasps awake in a cell. He swallows. All the memories flashing back at once.
Meanwhile in main throne room, Crowley is reading through all the new souls. "Blah blah. Not important not imp-" he stops reading a second. He rubs his forehead. "Damn squirrel," He says. Putting his papers down and standing up. "Hey! What cell is Dean Winchester in!?" He asks a random demon, crossing his arms. "Uh- 51D, sir," the demon says, shrinking under Crowley's gaze.
Crowley snaps his fingers and lands there. Dean is being burnt by some random torturer demon. His eyes kinda blank from pain. He glances past the torturer demon to Crowley.
The demon turns to follow Dean's gaze. "Oh- king- sir- what did you need?" The demon asks. "I need you to give me this one," Crowley says, smirking. "Ah, of course," the demon says, handing the burn stick to Crowley, walking away.
Crowley looks at the stick. "Hm," he throws it, "So, Squirrel, you died again?" Crowley says, leaning against the cell, smirking. "Yes, Crowley, I died again. And it was to stupid fucking humans too!" Dean snaps.
"Ooh so sad," Crowley says sarcastically, opening the cell door, "Get out here. We need to talk," he says, snapping his fingers and removing the chains off him. Though he's still handcuffed.
Gabriel drove them both to the bunker. He parks. "Cas, you may want to get ready, okay?" Gabriel says. "Sam isn't gonna react well.. at all.." he says. Looking at Dean's lifeless body in Cas' arms.
Sam starts walking out to the car. Gabriel gets out. "Hold on, Sam," he says, stopping him. Sam knows that the only time Gabriel uses his real name is when something bad happened. "...what happened?" Sam asks.
"..I need you to sit-" Gabriel starts. Sam notices the faint outline of Cas in the backseat, with Dean lifeless, laying in Castiel's lap. Sam pushes Gabriel, running and opening the door. His eyes widen.
"Fuck.. no.. Dean?.." he mutters, staring at Dean's body, his eyes trailing him. His eyes land on the whole in his head. He kinda just, stares. "No. He's not dead. He can't be. He's not dead. He's not," Sam says, feeling Dean's pulse. He's.. cold..
"What happened..? Was it a wraith?" He asks, staring at the hole.
"Humans.." Cas mutters. "It.. was a group of humans who wanted to take me for experiments.." he says, shrinking into the seat.
"And they shot him for that?" Sam asks, incredulously (with disbelief). "I.. they were gonna let him go and take me.. but.. he forced me in the car.. and started driving.. and.. they just.. it happened so fast.. one second he was talking and then.." Cas' voice is shakey.
Sam's breathing is heavy. He stares at his brother. "Sam-" Gabriel starts saying quietly. "Shut up," Sam says. Gabriels mouth closes, frowning. He knows Sam needs a minute.
"Move.." he says quietly, his voice dark, Cas immediately listening, getting out of the car. Sam gets in and sits. He takes Dean and looks at him. "I'm sorry, Dean, I'm sorry I wasn't there.." Sam whispers, crying, holding his head in his lap.
