Quiet, peaceful nights.
One would think that in a world like this, where chaos was constant and disaster seemed to lurk around every corner, such a thing would be impossible.
And yet, fortunately for MeQuot, this just so happened to be one of those nights.
Softly nestled into the crook of Devesto’s neck, he lay within his embrace while both of them were enveloped in a warm blanket. It had been a while since either of them had spoken up, but even so, he found a sense of comfort in the silence. It was just the two of them, enjoying each other’s presence. Nothing particularly new or out of the ordinary.
…Not yet, at least.
MeQuot lifted his head up slightly, resting his chin upon Devesto’s chest. “You falling asleep yet…?”
“Wide awake…” he replied in a low voice that said ‘I was mere moments away from drifting off but your voice snapped me back into reality.’ Not that MeQuot exactly minded. He himself had begun to doze off a little as well, and he would’ve been more than happy to fall asleep right there in Devesto’s arms.
And yet, instead of letting himself relax again, MeQuot only propped himself up further, the blanket slipping down his shoulders a bit as he looked down at Devesto. His usual sharp gaze was now much more relaxed, his guard completely let down… This was the type of vulnerable calmness that MeQuot and only MeQuot had the pleasure of witnessing from him.
Of course, it didn’t take very long for Devesto to take notice of him staring and question him on it. “...What are you doing?”
“Just looking…” MeQuot said, softly brushing his hand up against the side of Devesto’s face. “There’s nothing wrong with that, is there?”
Devesto glanced at his gesture, but didn't pull away. “It looks like you’re plotting something.”
Well, he wasn’t entirely wrong about that. Seeing him so docile like this, a rather amusing idea had crossed MeQuot’s mind…
Suddenly, MeQuot leaned down for only a second to give a quick kiss upon Devesto’s forehead. Devesto almost immediately froze upon contact. His face flushed a bright pink, eyes wide like he’d seen a ghost. (Though, given MeQuot’s undead status, you could say he technically had.)
MeQuot couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of how bewildered he was. “Well that certainly woke you up, didn’t it?”
“I- What was-??”
He watched as Devesto laid there, still stunned and barely able to get a full sentence out, all because of a single kiss. How funny it was that something so simple could completely break him in the way that it did.
“Sorry, I just… “MeQuot eventually laid back down as his laughter slowly dissipated. “I wanted to surprise you…”
Really, he himself wasn’t too sure what had come over him to do something so bold like that. Perhaps he simply wanted to see what sort of reaction Devesto would have? Well, it had been about what he’d expected; a little overdramatic, and undeniably cute. All in all, he was satisfied with the results.
But, right as he was starting to settle back in…
“You can… keep going if you want.”
MeQuot perked back up, unsure if Devesto had actually said that or if his own drowsiness had caused him to imagine it. He looked at him curiously, hoping for some kind of clarification, but Devesto’s face only grew redder the longer he stared.
“Don't make me say it again…” he muttered, barely loud enough to hear.
So that’s how it was going to be, huh? MeQuot hadn’t initially planned on his small gesture to turn into anything bigger, but now that Devesto had planted the idea in his head, it only sounded more and more tempting with each passing second.
And… if he was literally asking him for it, then who was he to deny him that?
With a playful smile, MeQuot began to leave gentle kisses upon Devesto’s forehead, though it wouldn't be very long before he’d end up scattering them all over his face. He let each and every one linger for a moment or two, feeling the warmth on Devesto’s face grow stronger with each press of his lips.
Devesto remained relatively quiet throughout, but that was fine. It was the small things, the things he probably didn’t even realize he was doing, that made his satisfaction clear. Like the occasional soft hum of content he’d let out, or how he’d slightly tilt his head one way or the other depending on which side MeQuot happened to be showering him with affection.
“You know…” MeQuot paused for a second to whisper up close. “...You’re awfully adorable like this.”
Devesto huffed, the slightest stutter in his voice. “Me? Adorable? You can’t be serious…”
“You think I’m joking?”
“I wouldn’t exactly use such a… delicate word to describe myself.”
“Really? From what I’m seeing right now, I certainly would…” he placed a kiss upon the bridge of his nose, thus resuming his gentle onslaught of affection.
Devesto’s breath caught momentarily as his hold around MeQuot became ever-so-noticeably tighter; one arm around his waist, the other resting along his back, keeping him in place like he was concerned that he’d suddenly stop at any moment. But with how things were going, MeQuot had no intentions of stopping anytime soon.
And much to his delight, Devesto let him go on for as long as he liked. He continued to generously give kisses anywhere and everywhere he could, while also leaving just enough room for Devesto to breathe so he didn’t completely suffocate him (even if he was a little curious as to how that would play out had he attempted such a thing.)
Either way, MeQuot did eventually pull away, leaving only a few inches of space between them as their foreheads delicately touched. At this point, Devesto was now burning red, seemingly finding it impossible to look at the man in front of him as his eyes frantically darted in every other direction.
God, he really was adorable, yet Devesto still insisted otherwise… And honestly, his denial only made him even more adorable in MeQuot’s mind.
“I really do mean it, Devesto...” MeQuot said earnestly, cupping the sides of Devesto’s face with his hands. “Are you still going to try and deny it?”
Devesto sighed in defeat, though the small smirk he tried (and failed) to hold back spoke for him much louder.
“Fine, fine… I surrender. You win,” he rolled his eyes, bringing one hand up to hold the back of MeQuot’s head and pull him an inch closer. “But only cause you’re making such a big deal out of it…”
“That’s good enough for me,” MeQuot smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment that he’d finally gotten through to him, even if his acceptance was a little reluctant.
And with that, he leaned down again to kiss him properly. Devesto quickly eased into it; any tension in his body almost instantly alleviating as he returned the kiss. Slow and tender, they allowed it to last naturally for however long either of them wanted it to. Not like either of them cared about keeping track of time anyway.
The two of them did eventually come to separate after a while, with Devesto letting out light exhale as he leaned back into the pillow below him.
“You can be absolutely ridiculous sometimes, you know…” he said, lightly running his fingers through MeQuot’s hair.
MeQuot giggled as he laid down, gently nuzzling into Devesto’s chest. “I’m sure I can live with that…”
