Chapter Text

A Nice Morning.

Chapter 1

"Quit lazing around ya' troublesome Oni."

It's a nice, calm morning in Gensokyo. The sun shines down from the sky onto the stone steps of the Hakurei Shrine. The shrine maiden is making some food for herself inside... Hell is fun and all, but my heart will always be left in Gensokyo. Relaxed, I take a deep breath, a nice crisp smell with the faint traces of whatever the shrine maiden is cooking tickles my nose. I take a sip from my gourd, the sweet taste of various fruits that I'm too tired to properly describe enter my mouth... Ahh... This is the life.

The door from the shrine opens up, revealing that good ol' shrine maiden, Reimu. I've always respected her since she beat me what feels like forever ago. Not enough to stop lazing around her shrine when she asks, of course, but enough for me to consider her my drinking buddy. A title I'm sure she's totally prideful about, despite how much she acts like she want me dead.

The shrine gets lonely at times when Marisa isn't around, which has been a lot as of recent. She's been caught up in some weird love triangle involving that one girl with the creepy dolls, and that magician who hates me for whatever reason. I mean, seriously, what did I ever do to her? But anyways, I'm digressing. Reimu chats with me quite a bit when she's feeling lonely. I suspect she enjoys my presence here far more than she lets on.

Reimu would walk over to my usual resting spot, the top of the steps of the shrine, right in the middle of the Torii gate. I dunno if I've ever told her this, but she usually has this really annoyed looking face on her.

Like, really annoyed. Like, really really annoyed. No one else seems to notice it, though, so maybe it's just reserved for when she's talking to me. Must be pretty special to her if she has an expression dedicated just for me... That's sarcasm, if you couldn't tell.

"You're blocking the way." She says, leaning slightly towards her broom. I'd look around the area. "Yup." I say, taking another sip from my gourd.

"Could... you maybe move?" She asks impatiently. She doesn't even wait for me to finish savoring my sake... bit rude but... I'm used to it. To be honest, I don't like people who are just pushovers and let those stronger than them do whatever they want.

I finish taking a sip, and reply "Why?" With a slight slur in my voice. She sighs. "Because you're blocking the entryway. People don't exactly want to donate to shrines who just have a troublesome Oni laying about." She says. Is that a slight twinge of snark I hear, dear Reimu-Chan? I'd chuckle quietly to myself.

Unfortunately for this poor (in more ways than one, really) shrine maiden, I can be significantly more snarky. "I think they're avoiding the Shrine 'cuz of yer whole 'No-Nonesense' attitude. You should lighten up" I'd slur, lazily smirking to myself.

This clearly annoyed Reimu, since she tries to use the broom to bonk my head, but it just phases through me. She'd look at me in confusion for a bit, before remembering I can turn into gas. She sighs, facepalming "Fine, whatever, I give up." She groans, walking away. Leaving me to enjoy the nice morning.

I'm not a jerk though. She's letting me stay at her shrine for practically nothing, even if it harms her donations, (Though I'm sure I'm not the only reason.) so I really should show her some kindness.

I'd clear my throat. "Thanksya." I'd slur out as she walks away. She'd pause for a moment, staring at me for a moment. "For what?" She asks, looking genuinely confused. "For lettin' me stay. I like lookin' at the sunrise here. It looks more better here than anywhere else!" I'd say cheerfully, giving the shrine maiden a wide, childlike smile.

Reimu would raise an eyebrow for a moment, before snarkily replying "Yeah, well, it's not really like I want you here. Can't really exterminate you now, can I?" I'd laugh at that. "True true. Wanna join me?" I'd offer, raising my gourd, and shaking it slightly.

Reimu would hesitate for a moment, for a moment it looks like she's genuinely considering whether or not she wants to join me... But I know Reimu. She can't resist some of my sake. She'd sigh, resting her broom on one of the supports of the Shrine. "Lemme get my cup..." She replies.
