Work Text:
“I’m gonna sleep in your room tonight,” George threatens.
“Cool,” Sapnap responds.
“And I’m gonna sleep naked,” George smiles.
“Cool,” Sapnap says nonchalantly.
“Alright, goodbye,” he stares into the camera and presses the end stream button. He stays in silence for a couple of seconds making sure the stream actually ended and closing all the necessary windows.
“Did you end?” Dream asks, sounding a little sleepy.
“He did,” is Sapnap who responds for him.
“Yeah,” George confirms and slumps into his chair.
“Bro, what the fuck were you yapping about me being pregnant? What is wrong with you?” Sapnap asks.
Dream scoffs, clearly finding it funny. George grins to himself. “Yeah, you’re pregnant, sorry you had to find out this way,” he tries not to laugh at Sapnap’s indignant tone.
“Shut your bitch ass up,” Sapnap immediately retorts. “You two freaks need to keep me out of whatever weird kink you have going on,” he chews on something loudly into the mic.
“Are you implying that pregnancy is something sexual or gross and not just a normal and beautiful thing to create human life?” Dream says, sounding more awake now that he’s teaming up with George to mess with Sapnap.
George holds his laughter, Sapnap groans. “You know what? I don’t have to listen to any of this, fuck you guys,” and the discord sound of Sapnap leaving the call is heard.
George burst into laughter, Dream following suit. It takes them a couple of seconds to calm down. “Alright…” George starts.
“What is the video idea you mentioned earlier?” Dream immediately interjects, clearly trying to get George to stay.
And it works. “Oh, yeah…” George tells Dream his idea. Dream listens attentively, weighting in when is appropriate and adding to George’s video idea. They end up with a decent idea of what they want Callahan to code and the structure of the video itself.
“We’re cooking,” George says excitedly and writes down the last point to discuss with Callahan.
“Yeah, we always cooked when it comes to video ideas,” Dream says proudly.
“I’m the goat,” George says, already knowing what’s coming after his comment.
“I? When did we become I?” Dream scoffs.
George smiles smugly to himself, Dream is so predictable. “Well, yeah. There can only be one GOAT,” he argues. “But fine, whatever. I guess I can temporarily share my title with you,” he sighs loudly just to be dramatic.
Dream chuckles. “Thank you,” he says condescendingly.
“Yeah, you’re welcome. I’m just that benevolent,” George shrugs even though Dream is not seeing him.
Dream scoffs. “So… You wanna do something or…?” He asks, George can hear his chair squeaking.
“Wait, you were being serious?” George asks, he thought Dream was playing it off for their audience when he asked George to hang out after the stream.
“Yeah, why not?” He can hear Dream shift on his chair again. “You’re always hanging out with Sapnap,” Dream says bitterly.
George tries to hold back his laughter. “I guess we could, but what will we even do?” He asks.
“I mean… We could go watch the movie we were talking about, get dinner or I don’t know,” Dream sounds a little breathless when he’s done. “We could just hang out like friends do George, I’m bored,” he concludes, trying to play off how agitated he sounds.
George is a little confused on why Dream is being so passionate about them hanging out but lets it slide. “Okay… Fine, let's just watch something in the home theater. I’m tired,” he yawns loudly to prove his point.
“Sure, we could order some dinner too,” Dream says, George can hear the smile laced in his tone.
“Yeah and you’re paying,” George immediately retorts.
Dream scoffs. “Text me when you’re ready, it’s a date,” and he disconnects from the call like he didn’t say something crazy.
George’s eyes widen and he stays frozen in place staring at his screen, convincing himself that he misheard Dream. He shakes his head and concludes that Dream was just being an idiot and said one of those unhinged things he lets slide on stream sometimes.
George turns off his computer, stands up from his chair and goes to his bedroom next door. He throws himself on top of the bed and scrolls TikTok for a couple of minutes, trying to distract himself from the weird feeling in his stomach. He knows Dream is just kidding but still he can’t help but think what if.
George stops dissociating when a text notification pops up on his screen.
Dream
????
George decides not to answer and gets out of bed to change his shirt. When he’s done he doesn’t text Dream, he just takes his phone and goes downstairs. George smiles smugly to himself when he finds Dream laying down on the couch frowning at his phone, again, predictable. George notices Dream has a nice shirt on, he thinks it’s a little weird but doesn’t mention it.
Dream looks up from his phone when he hears George coming down the stairs and sits on the couch. “You ignored my text,” he frowns.
George rolls his eyes. “You’re so annoying, I’m literally here aren’t I?” He starts walking towards the theater room, Dream following suit.
“I already placed an order from that sushi place that you like,” Dream says behind him.
“Good,” George says, getting to the theater room and looking around to make sure none of the cats are there, when he deems it safe he drops on one of the reclining chairs and relaxes.
Dream remains standing in the middle of the room looking at his phone, George stares at him for a second and can’t help but notice that he looks a little nervous.
Dream looks up from his phone and makes eye contact with him. “It says it’ll be here in twenty minutes, you want to start something or should we just wait for the food to arrive?” He shifts in his place.
George raises an eyebrow at him. “Sure, let’s wait,” he stands from his seat and walks up to the popcorn machine that’s just outside the home theater. “Wait, do we have popcorn? I’m kind of in the mood for popcorn,” he says, looking around to see if they have any popcorn bags stored in the machine.
“I’m not sure if we have any here but I’m pretty sure we have some in the pantry,” Dream stands behind George and lays one of his hands on his waist. George jumps in his place, straddled. “I’ll go check, be right back,” he squeezes George’s waist once and disappears into the hallway, just like that.
Okay, that was weird. George thought he was imagining things at the beginning but something is definitely off and he’s determined to figure out what. He goes back into the theater room and sits on the chair he picked earlier, he tries to scroll on his phone but his heart is beating a little faster and his hands are sweaty, he shifts uncomfortably in his seat.
He drops his phone on the chair, stands up and takes the laptop they have hooked up to the projector, George goes back to his seat and starts browsing the streaming services they have, which are pretty much every in existence. He can barely concentrate on what he’s doing, thoughts of Dream’s strange behavior flooding his mind.
George feels unsettled, he doesn’t want to read this wrong. He’s buried these feelings long ago because he knows they’re just friends, they’re good friends actually and George refuses to ruin everything with complicated feelings. Besides, if Dream felt the same he would’ve said something by now, right?
He shakes his head and straightens in his place when he hears Dream’s footsteps coming down the hall. George looks down to the laptop screen and pretends he’s interested in what he’s seeing.
He can see Dream stopping in front of the popcorn machine from the corner of his eye. “Hey, I’m back,” Dream announces. “I found the popcorn, also the food got here while I was rummaging through the pantry,” he drops the popcorn bag on the machine and enters the room.
George turns to look at him and smile. “Great, give me,” he makes grabby hands at Dream carrying the takeout bags.
Dream smiles fondly and passes him one of the bags, he walks to the chair next to George and sits. “Did you find something good?” He asks George.
“Ugh, no. There’s nothing good,” George complains. “Let’s just put on a Skeppy video,” he smirks.
Dream scoffs. “What about that show you like? Is it Severance?” He asks, George nods. “I’ve been meaning to watch it, we could start it today. I’m sure I’ll like it and it could be our show! Remember when we used to stay up late binging Breaking Bad?” Dream rambles excitedly.
George giggles nervously. “Okay. I’m sure you’ll like it, it’s epic,” he clicks on Severance and the first episode plays on the screen. George passes his food to Dream and puts the laptop down on the floor next to his chair.
He rearranges himself on the seat, Dream returns his food and they both start eating in relative silence. George can feel Dream stealing glances every few minutes, he swallows his food with difficulty and thinks he has enjoyed it better on other occasions.
They finish the first episode and also the food. Dream stands from his seat, takes his and George’s trash and throws it in the bin outside of the room. He comes back into the room and drops into his chair.
“Should we watch another one?” George asks. His stomach feels weird, that sushi restaurant has never let him down before but maybe today will be the day they mess something up and he’ll get food poisoning.
“Sure, I’m not tired,” Dream smiles at him
George wants to scream, Dream is acting weird and for how much he insisted on ‘hanging out’ he’s not saying a word. Is Dream mad at him?
The second episode starts, George snuggles into his chair and wraps around himself the blanket he found earlier on the chair. They remain in silence like they did with the first episode, only this time they don’t have the excuse of food. George can see Dream stealing glances at him from the corner of his eyes and that pisses him off.
George turns abruptly to Dream. “Okay, what is the matter with you? Are you mad at me or something?” He snaps.
Dream, who was already looking at him, freezes in his place and his eyes widen. “What? Of course no,” he swallows.
“Then what is it? Because you’d been acting weird since the stream,” George says reproachfully.
Dream looks like a deer caught in headlights. “I- Well- Uhhh, nevermind,” he stutters and turns to the screen.
George is actually mad now. “No! You don’t get to do that, you don’t get to ignore me now,” he stands from his seat and walks in front of Dream blocking his view of the projector. “Something is clearly bothering you, so spill it,” he says sternly.
Dream takes a deep breath. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me!” He slumps on his chair. “These past couple of days that Sapnap wasn’t home I’ve been going insane,” Dream brings both of his hands to his hair and tugs lightly.
George’s walls immediately go down. “So, you miss Sapnap?” He says, more relaxed this time.
Dream frown. “What? Sure, but that’s not the point,” he shakes his head.
“Then, what’s the point?” George goes back to his chair.
Dream sighs, his body completely facing George. “I don’t know… The first day he left I went looking for you to see if you wanted to record something but you were not home, you were at the gym with Tony,” Dream stares at him.
“Okay…” George says, not really understanding why Dream is bringing that up.
“Two days later I tried texting you and you ignored me because you were playing RuneScape,” Dream continues, George just stares at him. “And the next day I was on twitter and I saw people talking about a fan that met you and Sapnap at the gym a couple of months ago,” Dream looks frustrated, George can’t understand why. “And I know it’s irrational but I couldn’t help but realize that you and Sapnap hang out without me. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s awesome, I’m glad you and Sapnap are actually friends now,” he pauses.
“But?” George encourages.
“But, I also want to hang out with you. And I know I’ll sound like an idiot, but then I started to spiral a little because aren’t we supposed to be friends too? Actually Sapnap was my friend first, you were my friend first,” Dream rambles without taking a breath.
George frowns. “Dream, Sapnap is your friend too. I’m your friend too,” he tries to continue to reassure Dream but he cuts George off.
“And that’s the problem!” Dream exclaims, George’s eyes widen. Dream’s eyes widened too, he looked like he didn’t plan to say that out loud.
George frowns. “What? What do you mean?” His heart beating faster, is Dream trying to tell him he doesn’t want to be friends with him anymore?
Dream sighs in defeat. “George, like I said, I’ve been going insane and I couldn’t understand why. Why was I so bothered that you weren’t available for me like you used to? Like I couldn’t even sleep properly trying to figure it out,” he sits straighter, closing the distance between them, George doesn’t move.
“Dream, what are you saying?” George says, feeling tired all of a sudden. If Dream wants to kick him out he better do it quick.
“George,” Dream whispers his name with reverence in his voice, George is so confused he might explode. “I don’t want to be your friend,” he continues, George stares at him blankly. “Actually, I don’t want to be just your friend. And I know this is a conversation that should’ve probably happened the moment you moved here, but I think neither of us were ready at that moment. I hope I’m not too late,” Dream pauses, taking a big shuddering breath.
George feels his heart beating faster, he feels in a trance. “Dream…” He manages to get out through the lump in his throat.
“I wanna be with you George, not just to hang out like you and Sapnap do. I want to take you on dates, I want to share a room with you, a bed, I want to be able to kiss you and call you mine,” Dream takes one of George’s hands in his, George feels a chill run down his spine. “Will you let me?” Dream is close, so close.
George is speechless, of course he has feelings for Dream, he’d been in love with Dream for years. When he moved to Florida he thought this thing between them would evolve but when weeks went by and Dream didn’t say anything, when he started to see other people George gave up completely and he settled for being Dream’s friend. He thought his feelings were buried but seeing Dream in front of him right now makes him want to be brave.
George takes a deep breath. “Can’t believe it took you so long,” he says, somewhat reproachfully.
George brings both of his arms and wraps them around Dream’s neck, pulling him down for a kiss. Dream freezes for a second and then brings one of his hands to George’s cheek and deepens the kiss. George can’t stop himself from smiling into the kiss, too content with the results of Dream’s sulking.
George breaks the kiss and lays his forehead on top of Dream’s, he giggles. “Can’t believe you were jealous of Sapnap,” he teases.
Dream scoffs and separates himself from George, scooting to the other side of his chair. “I was not jealous of Sapnap, I just wanted for you to hang out with me,” he pouts.
George laughs. “You’re an idiot, I’m totally telling Sapnap,” he stands up from his chair and sits in the space Dream left for him on the chair. Dream wraps an arm around him and pulls him closer to his body. “Oh my god. I just realized, we can totally traumatize Sapnap when he gets back!” George says excitedly. “We’re definitely making out on the couch,” he pads Dream’s chest.
Dream giggles. “You’re evil. He’s gonna make me pay for his therapy afterwards,” he’s hand resting soothingly on George’s lower back, George is starting to feel sleepy.
“Good, you’re a millionaire,” George yawns. “Wait, does this mean that I get your money if you die now?” He asks excitedly.
Dream lightly pinches his side. “Well, don’t sound so excited,” he scoffs. “I’m leaving all of my money to Patches actually.”
“It doesn’t matter because I’m Patches father, so either way I’m getting your money,” George shrugs, smugly.
Dream rolls his eyes. “Fine, whatever. Now, I wanna finish this episode and then we’ll go to bed,” he declares.
“Fine, but you’ll have to carry me there,” George lays his head on top of Dream’s chest and faces the screen.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Dream kisses George’s temple softly.
