Work Text:
Yor rocked back and forth on the black living seat in the living room waiting for Loid to come back home.
A couple hours prior, Anya returned from school and began to wait with Yor before watching her favorite show, Spy Wars she liked to watch before talking about how she tried getting enough TV time before 'the devil' (Loid) forced her to study for her to strive and get Stella stars. Not too long ago, Yor told Anya that she loves Loid beyond simply being his fake wife and actually liking him. Since she was a kid, she wouldn't really expect that she knew about it, but was glad that telling someone helped a majority of the doubts in her head and have someone on her side (though it being a child--).
Her mission from the Shopkeeper-which was surprisingly easy today made her have the opportunity to come home early and simply wait for her beloved husband--er...fake husband to come home to her. Unfortunately, there have been multiple occasions when Yor was waiting for Loid at a late time, counting the hours until she'd hear his voice in the doorway, greeting her with the brightest, yet tired smile. How lucky was she to think that she'd have someone that would come back to her and not keep Yuri yelling at her 24/7 and repelling any--and every man in eastern Ostania. Thinking back, Yor hadn't realized how much of a help Loid was from keeping Yuri worry about her as much as he used to..regardless of the amount of tension there was when the two met.
"Loid.."
Pondering on the thought, she realized how much the two have grown in their relationship, well.. "arrangement". Yor thought to herself "These are only measly living arrangements. We don't even do things couples actually do for..ourselves." Problem being, she didn't really want what they shared to be fake: she loved Loid. Being able to say that aloud made her heart flutter knowing that she could actually admit to herself that she liked Loid beyond the convenience of being together..though she wouldn't get killed or get suspected for not having a husband or boyfriend with how dangerous it was to live around the area she lived in. Despite how she had secrets herself and her mind always wandered to why Loid would come so late for being a psychiatrist, she loved the time they spent together alone and as parents of Anya.
The walks in the park, the way Loid did so much for Anya to make her happy, the mornings Loid would cook (and not judge her when she tries to do the same) and simply being a wonderful father and provider. Though things can get rough whenever Loid pushes Anya to do her studies, he would always love her and take care of her regardless of what tests she's failed and squabbles she'd have with her classmates, specifically that Damian...which unfortunately, were many. On the contrary, Yor thought about what she has done for this little family and how much regret, blood, and shame she brings.
Being an assassin isn't even required for the stable money both her and Loid make and yet, she puts her life and identity and possibly Loid and Anya in danger. She thought to herself how much easier the two's life would be without her in the picture. Why couldn't Loid pick another person to be his fake wife? (though people wouldn't run into an offer like that every Monday morning-). In her mind swirling with all doubts, she then realized: that's it. People don't usually have an opportunity like she had to have someone as kind, encouraging, and loving as Loid and she could not take that for granted. Yor contemplated, standing up she formed an idea: she was going to repay Loid. But..how? She knows she can't cook and cleaning is the usual standard that she keeps up in the house. Yor sat back down, sighing with a plop.
"What would Loid love?"
Loid hasn't really opened up to her and she only became his fake wife some time ago and they haven't really had that much alone time together without including Anya when they go for an outing. How about..romantically..? Yor blushed at the thought. She loved Loid, but didn't know how exactly he would feel. Yor took a deep breath. It didn't have to be something big, but just to show him that she loved being with him...more than a living arrangement.
A few hours back at work, Yor was finishing up some work before her meeting with the Shopkeeper, until she overheard Camilla, a co-worker, speaking with Millie and Sharon, a couple more of her colleagues.
"..and when Dominic came back from work, I prepared a big meal, greeted him with a heartwarming kiss--as usual and--"
Yor stepped into the conversation,
"A kiss?"
Camilla paused and looked at Yor in confusion like she was speaking a foreign language
"Yes. You do kiss your husband when you come back home...do you?"
Yor stuttered, rambling and blushing at the thought,
"N-no.."
Camilla sighed in disappointment and confusion. She would never understand Yor, though both of them had a partner.
"Well, make it a start then. When I tell you, kissing your husband when he comes home is a welcoming into the house and greeting him with something warm to come to..."
A kiss...
The last time they tried kissing was forceful. Pressure was on them and the moment didn't feel right at all when they just became "husband and wife". Though she loved Yuri very much, the way he acted was very childish and though they apologized later that night, it still made her heart hurt a little. Yor reflected on the thought. She knew that Loid may not be comfortable with a kiss and she'd have to respect his boundaries: a simple "welcome home kiss' would suffice.
In her nervousness and...surprising excitement, Yor tried to distract herself by making a tea (the only thing she couldn't really burn or mess up). Yor sat back down and fidgeted with the hem of her red dress. Due to this being her first actual opportunity for a first kiss, Yor thought to herself about how she would approach the kiss. Love was a topic that she didn't know a lot about and if she wanted to show Loid how she felt, it had to be perfect.
Yor looked at the clock, one last time before she heard familiar footsteps travel to the front door. "It's Loid.." Yor thought. Before she could even think, she heard the door swing open-
"Yor. I'm ho-"
Immediately, Yor ran into his arms, lightly brushing his lips with soft kiss. Startled and flustered, Loid nearly fell over and dropped his hat. "This was new.." he thought to himself as he slowly closed the door with his foot. The kiss lasted a few seconds longer before Yor pulled back in embarrassment, red as a beet and stumbling on her words to explain.
"L-L-Loid. I'm so sorry. I don't know what came over me. I just wanted to do something to show you how grateful I am for you."
Loid, who was red as well, cleared his throat and smiled awkwardly. Yor was always full of surprises when he last expected it. Though it was something that he didn't think Yor would do, he oddly didn't hate it. For the sake of the mission, he had to make sure she was comfortable with growing and trying new things, regardless of how somewhat forceful the kiss was.
"Yor, you don't have to feel sorry. We are married after all, so don't be ashamed of feeling grateful and acting on it.." Loid chuckled to himself, looking at the situation he was in, "You should at least give me a heads-up, though."
Yor sighed in relief. She wasn't expecting that that would go so well. Loid always knew what to say and do. She truly was grateful to him.
"Thank you,...Loid"
"You're welcome.."
The two stood there, looking at each other in silence. Though Loid may not be able to admit it, he really cared for Yor, regardless of the two stumbling into the oddest situations, they knew one thing for sure: they'd do it together, fake marriage or not.
Anya, who heard Loid come through the door ran out of her room, before realizing she'd have to study. Coming out of the hallway on the way to turn around, she read the room (literally) sensing the faint blush on the couple's cheeks and the awkward silence between the two.
"Mama and Papa are flirting.."
"NO WE ARE NOT--"
