Work Text:
Tokoyami and Tsuyu were a unique and unexpected pair to most. Tokoyami being a very reserved, calm person but that meant he was shy and broody. Of course Tsuyu didn't care, she was a reserved person yet much more socially involved than Tokoyami. They were in Mr. Yamada's theater class though he preferred to be called Mr. Mic. Tokoyami was an assistant director while Tsuyu was the stage manager for the class both displaying incredible imagination and Tsuyu being great at leadership. Tokoyami was great at making everything comfortable and taking others advice. Tokoyami and Tsuyu had met in Highschool and clicked somewhat slowly with their shared love of theater. Ever since then they were inseparable, because Tokoyami was more clingy than he liked to admit.
It had been a Tuesday night, they had just finished a rehearsal at the theater. Both tired and running on dopamine from how good the rehearsal had gone, the two lovebirds had been cuddling. Tokoyami ran hid hands through Tsuyu's hair loving the soft feel of it. Tsuyu was half asleep, eyes drooping as she tightened her hold on the raven. Tokoyami chuckled and continued to thread his hands through her hair. The two of them had been in a constant state of looking like a couple, acting like one, and saying they were but... They never actually kissed, or showed proper affection. Oftentimes the affection left to quiet book reading together or just after rehearsal time when both were exhausted and barely thinking. This bothered Tokoyami a lot. He loved Tsuyu a lot, so much so he goes so far as to stop being so introverted and hang out with her friends. He just felt... Disconnected, like there was something constantly there was a wall he was still on the other side of.
Uraraka is always extremely bothered about his clinginess. Tsuyu always says she had no idea what she was talking about.
Tokoyami waited until the green haired girl had gone to sleep, a truly deep one. He grabbed a blanket and wrapped it over them. He knew Tsuyu was one to have an incredible grip strength, it made him quite embarrassed how she could manhandle him. So he didn't expect he could get out of it, not that he actually wanted to. Tokoyami was always hot and the girl was always cool so she was a nice refreshment. Tokoyami relaxed and closed his eyes, he was exhausted, physically and especially mentally.
That morning made him realize many different things. One of which being, Tokoyami was hopelessly in love with his girlfriend but he was too shy to actually confirm it with her. And another being that Tokoyami never actually knew what Tsuyu was feeling.
That being said Tokoyami had woken up in the morning with his alarm blasting on his phone. He tried to sat up just to get some groans from Tsuyu and mutters for him to not go. He froze and looked down to where the girl in question had horrible bed head, though it looked good on her. Everything looked good on the Tsuyu. She looked still tired, eyes drooped and dazed, lips slightly parted. She looked way too good to not kiss and soothe. Yet Tokoyami was a coward, a coward to not kiss his girlfriend, despite always being called a Raven he felt more like a chicken.
He froze.
Tsuyu had just pulled him back down and snuggled closer tangling their legs together. Tokoyami accepted his fate, burying his reddening face in her hair. He took in the scent which was like a nice forest. He relaxed gradually and then started to think. why was he such a coward when he could kiss Tsuyu and she would probably say something like, finally or nothing at all. They were a couple, even if they never had actually kissed before. Tokoyami feels weird about that fact constantly.
Of course he wouldn't mind if he actually did...
He really wanted to kiss Tsuyu.
This fact stayed in his mind for much longer than he would have liked, almost every waking moment he thought about it. He knew it was bad when his math professor Mr. Aizawa called him out for looking like a lovesick puppy.
Tokoyami had been sitting in class, just before Mr. Yamada's class. He was stuck in his thoughts about wanting to kiss Tsuyu so much it hurt. He should have been focusing on calculus but he couldn't find it in him to think about letters and numbers when he could be thinking of green hair and wide eyes. Of course this was a mistake with the very observent professor who approached him after class.
"Tokoyami Fumikage." The very tired teacher had called out, though he was a University professor his classes were always small with maybe 30- 40 people per period. This meant he could deal with each individual student and their issues. That also meant he saw everything.
"Yes Mr Aizawa?" Tokoyami sat up straight in his seat having quickly snapped out of his thoughts. He ignores the stares from others as best as he could. He felt his face heating up slightly.
"Meet with me after class." The class oohs and Tokoyami wanted to melt into his seat. Who would have thought University would have the same level of maturity as middle school just with more freedom? Tokoyami nodded keeping him head down for the rest of class and definitely much more focused now. He didn't want to get called out yet again.
"You were quite distracted in class today. Would you like to share why before your next class?" The black haired man had said in front of him and Tokoyami could swear he was holding back a smirk. That man got off on making his students embarrassed or something like that. Tokoyami sighed and avoided the gaze of the man in front of him.
"I was just thinking about how- It's none of your business." Tokoyami looked up at the man who had the smile like one of the cat who caught the Canary. Again the man was a sadist he loved messing with his students. He often waited until the absolute last minute to grade things for his students who had bad grades in his class. Tokoyami never heard enough about that from Mina yet she always ended up getting the grade up to a B+ by the end of the week.
"Oh but it is. If you can't focus in class, I have to know what is making you so distracted that you can't focus on the greatness of mathematics." Tokoyami always knew that aizawa always knew everything about his student's lives, he is just realizing why. That man lives for drama. That's likely why is so close to Mr. Yamada, he likes to hear his friend talk about drama.
"Well... If you could promise not to-"
"No promises."
"Why did I expect that? Ugh. Fine I'll tell you."
"So," The tired man gestured for him to speak. "Go ahead Fumikage."
Tokoyami took a deep breath coming out in a long sigh.
"I'm just having problems with how to express my feelings in my relationship."
The man in front of him leaned back and chuckled. Of course he was laughing at him, he was always such a drama king. Again no wonder he works so well with Mr. Yamada. "Tsuyu would accept any kindness from you and cherish it like a diamond." Tokoyami felt a special kind of irritation knowing how true he was. But he didn't want to show that kind of affection, he wanted to truly show Tsuyu just how much he loved her. Not only for dating him but for showing him how happy you could be interacting with others.
"Whatever." He looked away from him again trying to hide his irritation but Mr Aizawa had a special sense for his students being irritated.
"Fumikage, listen to me."
Tokoyami looked up at the man finally seeing sincerity in his tired eyes. He may be an asshole sometimes but he was kind sometimes. "I'm sure she would listen whenever you want to show affection to her. Just show it to her in your way."
"...Thank you Sensei."
Tokoyami took that advice to heart, not realizing just how bad he was at his emotions when he was writing out the improved design for the new play they would be doing. He was given a prompt but afterwards Mr Yamada left it in his class's hands. They took that day to brainstorm how they would fix the scene that wasn't working out that much last rehearsal.
"So what if we put Kami on the left side instead of the right? That may fix the issues with collision like last rehearsal." A fellow student had suggested. There had been a collision point for a scene because so many actors had to on the same general area. Tokoyami noted it thinking about it in his head and he felt dumb for not realizing how easy of a fix that had been.
"That could work." Tokoyami muttered and Tsuyu who had been helping with costume adjustments started getting everyone to places. It had changed the plan a bit to make the adjustment but ultimately it avoided collisions. Now all that was left was making poster designs for the play. Wonderful. Midoriya could help with that. He was always good with those sort of things.
Tokoyami didn't realize he had been zoning out until Tsuyu had waved her hand in front of his face "Tokoyami are okay?" The raven in question looked up and nodded quickly.
"Yes I am well."
"You seemed to be thinking quite hard."
"I was thinking how we would make the posters." Tokoyami gestured around them. Tsuyu always asked how he was doing, he could never tell how she was doing though.
"We only have to make two posters and the class will be making some other ones. They all just have to convey the same general idea." Tsuyu had said quite logically. Tokoyami nodded and sighed. It may seem like an easy task but it was tedious nonetheless.
"You're quite right. Though I don't feel the need to do it." Tokoyami was leaning on the wall and closed his eyes briefly. Since they had finished rehearsals all that was left was cleaning which Mr Yamada does the main part but they do the easy parts. He felt tired and just wanted to go to the dorm and fall asleep. Tsuyu seemed to sense this and tugged in his sleeve.
"Want to go to the dorms? This is the end of rehearsal." Tokoyami opened his eyes meeting hers, Forest green eyes looking into the deep black night sky. He nodded and smiled slightly.
"Yeah. I wouldn't mind."
Tsuyu did infact bring him to her dorm, they laid down, Tsuyu laying in the raven's chest. He wrap his arms around her and closed his eyes, fully prepared to fall asleep. She was so cool temperature wise. It was wonderful against his hot body. He was half asleep when he felt the urge to show affection. Pure appreciation for Tsuyu. He wrapped his arms tighter around her and buried his face in her hair. She smelled good, like fresh air in a forest.
"Tsuyu, love you." Tokoyami felt happy, he normally didn't say I love you often and this was special to him. To share his love with someone he wanted to. He hoped for a good reaction, but why would he get a bad one?
"Kay. Love you too." Tsuyu had shifted to a more comfortable position but still allowed the sleepy raven on her. Tokoyami could care much about how she responded at the moment. He was too tired to think about it. Though he felt a pang of disappointment of the lack of reaction. She was always just... distant... Maybe he was a bit dramatic... Either way, Tsuyu had snuggled closer and his mind was back to sleepiness. He fell asleep with one thing on his mind,
He wished he actually got a kiss.
Tokoyami sat up, it was Midnight but he was thirsty and needed water desperately. He already felt the grip of Tsuyu on him tightening as he moved. He was thirsty, but he also didn't want to move when Tsuyu was clearly so comfortable. He felt his throat beg for water again and he decided against his best judgement to wake her up. He took a deep breath, his throat reminded him why he was doing this as he lightly shook Tsuyu. The girl, being a naturally deep sleeper when it's dark out, didn't stir. The raven sighed and shook her a bit harder. He was hovering over her slightly since her grip hasn't changed at all. She mildly stirred but not enough to fully wake. Tokoyami felt slight frustration, he really wanted water. He sat up abruptly hitting his head on the bunk above instantly. The boy yelped and rubbed his head where he hit it. And that's finally when Tsuyu woke up.
"Kero... Tokoyami? Are you okay? What happened?" The green haired girl's gentle voice broke the silence of the room. Her grip loosened around his waist, breaking off, and she got out of the bed. Tsuyu checked Tokoyami's head assuming from the noise of the top bunk getting hit that he hit his head. She wondered why the Raven was awake but focused on making sure he was okay first. Tokoyami let the girl check him as he lost himself in the view of her. Her hair was slightly disheveled, eyebrows knit together in worry but eyes carrying softness. It was hard to not stare and Tokoyami had failed miserably at not staring.
"It's nothing, I just hit my head on the bunk bed." Tokoyami answered the girl remembering her question. Tsuyu sighed in relief and sat down beside the Raven, the question she had crossing her mind again.
"Okay... I'm glad you're okay but why were you getting up?" Tsuyu met Tokoyami's gaze, the raven sighed deeply before answering her.
"I was going to get water, but you wouldn't let me go since you were asleep. Even when I tried to wake you." Tsuyu hadn't expected that response but it made enough sense. She knew she was quite the cuddle bug in her sleep, and she didn't like letting go. Tsuyu could only imagine Tokoyami trying to leave her grip and she felt a smile creep on her face.
"Oh. Sorry then. You should head to grab it then. I'm going to lay back down." Tsuyu rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly. She laid down feeling slightly embarrassed but that was quickly overshadowed by being tired. Tokoyami stood up and went to the small kitchenette after watching to see if Tsuyu laid down.
He finally was able to get that water needed. He licked his lips putting the cup in the sink. When licking at his lips Tokoyami remembered what he wanted to do to Tsuyu. He wanted to kiss her passionately just to show how much he loved her. He didn't understand why he felt this way. He just knew that he did and if anyone was going to try to go against him and Tsuyu they would definitely go through him. Though he doesn't believe anyone would want to get between them. He knew Tsuyu loved him a lot but sometimes he just felt unfulfilled. He knew he was supposed to do something and he hoped that thing was a kiss because he truly loved her and he didn't want to be ungrateful.
The raven sighed and walked out of the kitchenette going back into bed with Tsuyu. Careful to watch his head this time he laid beside the girl and wrapped his arms around her. She instantly molded against him and laid her head on his arm snuggling close. Tokoyami let the small smile creep out onto his face and he closed his eyes. He felt happy. Just slightly unfulfilled for some reason. He would deal with that feeling in the morning. He needs to get some sleep.
Tokoyami's morning passed in a flash. He awoke early, escaped Tsuyu's grip, and dealt with his morning routine. He got dressed for class, went through the boring sequence of events. Then he met up with Midoriya and Todoroki during a block period. They had gone to Todoroki's coffee shop job site because it was on campus so it was easier to get to. They all sat down and they started to talk. Midoriya starting first, being the naturally talkative one.
"So..." The green haired boy stirred his drink, "What have you been up to Tokoyami?" Tokoyami thought about the question a bit more than he'd like to admit. He felt slightly unfulfilled with his relationship, which he didn't know why. He had to make posters for his class in theater, he was bad at that, and he was just generally anxious. But He responded with a basic reply.
"I'm fine. How about you?" There was a pause before Todoroki spoke up. Tokoyami then remembered he was taking a psychology major. The dual haired boy looked directly at Tokoyami before speaking.
"You seem anxious." The dual haired boy had pointed out quite bluntly, it was normal for him to do that though. Todoroki leaned forward with up a bit straighter. Midoriya glanced at Tokoyami with concern on his face."Are you telling us the truth? We're your friends, you can tell us what is bothering you." Both Midoriya and Todoroki looked at Tokoyami with concern though Todoroki's was more masked. Midoriya had been rubbing off on him.
Tokoyami shifted uncomfortably under the gaze of both of them staring at his drink. He sighed and met their gaze. "Okay yes I am anxious. I have a lot of stuff going on and..." His voice got a bit weaker and he cradled his drink. "I... I feel unfulfilled in my relationship with Tsuyu..." There was a beat of silence between the three before Midoriya spoke up again, voice gentle and welcoming.
"You know," the green haired boy started, his eyes meeting the raven's "If you want to talk about it we would be willing to listen, Right Todoroki?" The dual haired boy nodded and they stared at Tokoyami expectantly. Tokoyami took a deep breath and sat up straight and took a sip of his coffee.
"There's just something missing. We haven't kissed yet and I just... I-i feel like there's something. Something that I don't know what I want it to be but it needs to be there." The raven felt weird airing out his feelings to his friends, but he trusts them. They listened intently nodding along. Todoroki had leaned back as he listened and Midoriya leaned forward. The fidgety boy scratched the back of his neck sheepishly and glanced at Todoroki for help. there was silence before he had spoken.
"Maybe, and sure I'm not the best person to give you this advice but," The dual haired boy started, he was frankly not a good person with feelings but his psychology major helped. "Maybe just tell her. Tell her that you don't like her any-" Midoriya's eyes widened in alarm and he interrupted quickly "What he means is, Just tell her you feel like there's something missing in your relationship, and talk for a while. And if, only if, it's clear that she won't be able to provide that something, tell Tsuyu it won't work out." Tokoyami's shoulders loosened as Midoriya continued his hand circling the top of his coffee as he talked "You and Tsuyu are a great couple though, so I'm sure you'll work it out."
Todoroki simply shrugged "Yeah that's a good way to put it." Midoriya rolled his eyes and sighed looking at Tokoyami directly again.
"That's..." Tokoyami started and took a sip of his coffee "That's good advice Midoriya, thank you." Midoriya beamed brightly, Tokoyami chuckled and stirred his coffee with a straw.
"Alright so what have you two been up to?"
"We should do this again sometime soon!" Midoriya jittered excitedly. Tokoyami nodded picking up his things and he threw his backpack over his shoulder "I'll see if I bring Tsuyu next time." The boys went their separate ways, Tokoyami's mind stuck on what Midoriya said. Maybe he should talk to Tsuyu about what he feels. or maybe just ask for the kiss. He doesn't know exactly what he'll do but he'll do something.
He went to his classes avoiding Mr Aizawa like the plague and then went to theater class. He saw Tsuyu on the way and walked over. She seemed slightly gloomy but maybe he just didn't see correctly because she seemed fine as she saw him. She waved him over a smile creeping on her face. Tokoyami felt like something was wrong but ignored his gut instinct. He walked beside the green haired girl.
"Could we have a talk together after class?" Tokoyami spoke with his usual stride though there was hesitation that Tsuyu picked up on because her heart looked to sink. She remained silent for a few moments before speaking.
"Okay. My dorm again?"
"only if you want."
"Okay..."
The walk was silent before she broke it again. She fidgeted with her fingers feeling slightly worried about what Tokoyami might want to talk about. She hoped it wasn't anything bad. She really loved him and would never want to leave him. She felt sick. She didn't want to look too worried though. Tokoyami noticed anyways, he was too scared to ask about it though.
"So do you think we'll finally get the rehearsal correct?" Tsuyu fidgeted with her hands but her eyes Met Tokoyami's.
The Raven nodded absentmindedly, his mind elsewhere as it seemed to Tsuyu. She sighed and remained quiet. They arrived and Mr Yamada was excitedly telling the class the events for the day. it was quite interesting.
Mr Yamada had posed dramatically as he spoke. "Well today is hopefully the last rehearsal!" He pointed in the general direction of the entire class "Little listeners, you make me proud!" He had dramatically made it look like he was crying. Tokoyami just tapped on the clipboard and gestured to the time.
"Mr. Mic, We want to go to our other things after school so we want to keep this before 5:30." Tokoyami waved the clipboard in his face and Tsuyu then took it as the stage manager. She smiled and got everyone to go to their places.
"Alright you heard him! we want to go home early let's get this ready!" There was a chorus of agreement. people made sure they remembered their lines and Tokoyami took care of helping with whatever because his job of helping visualize the play was over. By the time it reached 5:00 they had just finished the play and it went splendid. It kept Tsuyu's mind off of what Tokoyami might say, and Tokoyami off what Tsuyu's reaction may be.
Mr Yamada strutted over and grinned "Well little listeners, You know the play is showcased next week. Get ready for that. but no classes for now until then. You're off when you finish cleaning." There was a chorus of agreement and excitement, though cleaning would be annoying. they moved all the props to where they went, ensured nothing broke that wasn't supposed to be broken, and then left.
Tokoyami waited for Tsuyu patiently leaning on the wall outside the theater. Out came the green haired girl, adjusting her backpack she looked directly at Tokoyami.
"Ready to go?"
"Yes."The walk had been silent, almost awkward if it wasn't for the fact it was filled with tension. Tokoyami felt he had been far too vague with his wording. What if Tsuyu genuinely thought something was wrong? What if she genuinely thought that she had done something wrong? All of this made his heart pound against his chest. What was he feeling? Was it love? Fear? He had no idea. He just wanted to talk. He needed to talk. And even if he didn't find the words, maybe Tsuyu could interpret them because... That was what she had always done. She had always been able to understand him, even when he didn't understand himself.
Before he knew it, they were at the dorm, it felt weird now. It would break the bubble that had been surrounding him so he didn't know if he wanted it to pop. What if he had been misunderstanding all of this. That entire relationship, what if it was just a friends with benefits situation? What if-
Tsuyu's voice, like a whisper, broke through his thoughts, "Tokoyami? Let's go inside. You said we needed to talk? Well... We're here. We can talk now, and... We can work through whatever it is you need." She unlocked her door and stepped aside to let him go in first.
They both attempted to settle in though the air was filled with tension. Tokoyami sat down on the chair of her desk and Tsuyu sat on her bed, fiddling with the hem of her shirt. The look on her face could have fooled anyone, so calm looking, yet ridge since Tokoyami knew to look for it. She was just hiding her emotions again...
Tokoyami shifted awkwardly and moved to the edge of the seat. He cleared his throat the words dying at first but finally leaving his throat. "Tsuyu-... Asui, we needed to talk because lately I've felt weird about this situation, we're dating, or at least I think we are?-"
"Fumikage..." She interrupted though her voice was a whisper, it wasn't enough to break through Tokoyami's rambling.
"But that's not the point because I feel that we don't show enough affection, which I find that I want more lately. Or I don't know what I'm feeling exactly, but something is missing." Tokoyami likely would have gone on for longer if it wasn't for Tsuyu staring intently at him, waiting for a chance to speak. The tension in the room had shifted, he felt scared. It was out, what he was feeling. And so that meant if he misinterpreted anything between them, she knew now.
Tsuyu sighed, Her eyes softened with fondness and she stood up slowly walking up to Tokoyami. He automatically went ridge but he tried to relax. Tsuyu then crouched beside him next to the chair and gave a soft smile.
"That's it?"
"Yeah that's all..." Tokoyami could feel his cheeks heating up, his voice breaking very subtly. He avoided her gaze turning his head.
Tsuyu let out a soft what could only be described as a murmur of a giggle. It was warm, but couldn't be described as a giggle, it was more soft, more filling with affection than amusement. She moved so that Tokoyami was forced to face her.
"Fumikage, you're my boyfriend, I know we did it weird. Just didn't make a single like, declaration, but we are." Tokoyami felt stupid, "and if you wanted more affection, you could have just told me." Tsuyu looked so patient and understanding as Tokoyami nodded automatically.
Tsuyu leaned down slightly, Tokoyami immediately understood what she was about to do. Maybe, just maybe. He'll finally feel satisfied. He nodded and Tsuyu met their lips together, it was gentle and tender. They pulled away quickly, Tokoyami smiled and stood up. "Yeah... I really shouldn't have worried so much should I have?"
"Not at all."
Tokoyami woke up, sitting up in his dorm bed. Iida fast asleep with Hatsune on him. It was around 2 in the morning. He got up and headed to drink some water. He thought back on the day, he had gotten what he had wanted... Right? I mean he thought that he wanted to get more affection but now he just feels... Unsatisfied. He had been so happy earlier though, just so happy with Tsuyu but now he doesn't know what he wants. He had gotten his affection. What could he possibly want now?
He sighed deciding to deal with it while he made the posters. He and Tsuyu had already been planning and all just had to draw it and edit it. They already had posters set up of course, but these would be for the opening nights, so it had to look captivating. It took him an hour to do his part, so he left the rest to Tsuyu. He went back to bed, remembering he had classes in the morning.
The days had been smoothly, opening night was fast approaching and Tokoyami felt satisfied. The posters were made, theirs looked a bit rushed but it was no matter at the moment. The issue was that one of the main actors had gotten sick and wasn't able to play for opening night so now they had 3 days to train the backup to almost perfect. It was stressful for many, and they had been having to work later every day.
"Remember! Four steps to the left when Kaniri is close to stopping her dialogue so you can step up to talk next." Tokoyami called out helping Mic with directing. Tsuyu was dealing with some prop breaks. All were stressed.
"Tsuyu the prop stairs broke at the bottom!" One of their classmates had called out and Tsuyu mentally noted to go fix it when she finished with the other things. She felt completely overwhelmed.
"Crap what were my lines?! Tsuyu what are they?!"
"The stairs are still broken!"
"Now where in the actual hell is Sakura for this scene? Tsuyu!"
"Tsuyu hurry up now!"
"Wait what were the steps?"
It was chaos. Everything was going wrong that could have gone wrong was happening. Tsuyu and Tokoyami were exhausted along with their theater class. They ended up finishing with one good final rehearsal at 19:00. Most were ready to leave immediately, some left before, but the majority had stayed and they were exhausted. Mr. Mic let all of them leave and he would handle cleaning.
"Alright little listeners, you can leave. We have to rehearse Tomorrow and hopefully nothing goes wrong then. Opening night in... Two days technically now." Mr. Mic had ushered them out. Tsuyu held herself up while Tokoyami sagged walking to the dorms.
"That was torture." Tokoyami said stretching and cracking his back.
"Kero... It wasn't that bad. Just exhausting." Tsuyu opened he door to the dorms and they both moved to lay down. Both too tired to take a shower or move. They entangled in their limbs together, holding each other.
"Love you, Asui." Tokoyami murmured into her hair, eyes already shutting.
"Love you too." Tsuyu's voice was muffled against his chest. Tokoyami moved giving Tsuyu a quick kiss and then dozed off soon afterwards. They were exhausted, and needed a break.
It wasn't long before Opening night arrived, they had managed to get everything fixed up, yet Tsuyu was nowhere to be found and it was not going too well now. Nobody knew where to go even when Mic directed them. Tokoyami took it upon himself to find the green haired girl. He headed to the dorms, she would most likely be there and if not it would just end up in disaster.
Tokoyami knocked on the door "Tsuyu? Tsuyu are you in there?" he heard soft sniffling inside and his heart sank. He had never seen, or heard Tsuyu cry. Or show much emotion other than kind and patient. He shifted on his feet and then decided on helping even if he couldn't know much. "Asui I'm coming in."
Tsuyu quickly wiped away her tears upon Tokoyami coming in. "Kero... It's nothing Fumikage." She was sat on her bed, looking frazzled.
Tokoyami sat beside her and pulled her into a hug. "it's not nothing if you're crying. Just tell me." Tsuyu froze but slowly relaxed, she didn't want to burden Tokoyami with her emotions of opinion. She never wanted that for anyone. So she always hid it. She kept silent and smiled. Patient. Never anything but that. But Tokoyami seemed to sense her hesitation. He hugged her tighter and then released her.
"I want to listen. Not because I have to. But because I want to help you like how you help me. So what's wrong?" Tokoyami's black eyes met glassy forest green eyes and she sniffled tears falling down her face more.
"I'm so scared everything will go wrong... It had lately and when it does I'm always the one who has to deal with it and it stresses me out... And it's opening night if it does go wrong and-" Tsuyu rambled through tears while Tokoyami ran his hands through her hair. He interrupted her quickly.
"It wouldn't be your fault, Asui, it's a group effort, if it goes wrong. It's all of our fault not just yours. Don't worry yourself with that stuff when it's not true. And if you felt stressed you should have told me. When you feel mad, sad, when you feel just anything. Tell me." Tokoyami looked into her eyes. She nodded slowly.
"Okay. I-i understand."
"Are you ready to face the crowd?"
"... Yes."
Opening night ended up well. The play was given a standing ovation, and classmates bombarded Tsuyu with praise. Though overwhelmed at first she welcomed it while Tokoyami stood beside her nodding approvingly.
They headed out, after cleaning up. Mr. Yamada reminded that the next Opening night will be in two days. As they walked to the dorms Tokoyami stopped. Tsuyu looked back slightly confused.
"So how are you feeling?" Tokoyami grabbed her hands holding them.
"... Happy. I'm feeling happy and loved. Thanks to you." Tsuyu smiled warmly and Tokoyami felt his face heat up. He smiled as well and started to walk again. Tokoyami finally felt satisfied. He finally felt satisfied with Tsuyu.
"Me too. I feel happy as well."
