Chapter Text
The basement was quiet. Too quiet.
Mike sat there in the old couch, staring at the ceiling. Lucas had already left, and also Will. He had just gotten in an argument with will over not wanting to play D&D. He was his best friend, so of course he felt horrible. Mike's head hurt from even thinking about it, and Nancy kept yelling for him to go downstairs for dinner. Honestly? He wasn't even hungry at all. The thought of the fact he made Will upset, let alone having to eat dinner like it didn't happen makes him sick to the stomach. Unfortunately for poor Mike, dinner's too important.
"MICHAEL!! get over here right now. The food is getting cold." Nancy yelled
Mike called out back, "I don't want dinner, Nance!"
Even as he said that, he stood up and reluctantly walked upstairs for dinner. When he got there, he had to do a double take. El/Jane, his dad, his mom, his sister, Max, Lucas, Dustin, Jonathan, and Joyce were there. Gee, who plans such a big dinner without telling their kid?
Lucas was still tense, since he had been in the argument. Dustin seemed tensed up too, Lucas probably told him. Nancy looked annoyed since she was the one who had to call Mike down, but she was eating without crashing out, luckily. Max and El/Jane were chatting like happy little birds in a conversation about whatever, Joyce and Jonathan seemed a little tense too but they tried to act as normal as possible. Will probably told them about what happened, but they don't seem to wanna blame anyone since it wasn't their fight.
A very awkward dinner, I would say. He sat down and started eating while literally nobody talked. Finally someone decided to break the terrible silence. Unfortunately it was Nancy complaining.
"Mom, did you really have to invite like 80% of the group to dinner?" She critiqued. I mean, she got along with them of the time but it could've been better if Steve was there.
Lucas spoke up, too. "Mrs. Wheeler, I appreciate the dinner and all but did you have any reason to call us all here?"
"No, I just figured It would be nice to bring everyone together." She responded.
Everyone at the table collectively glanced at each-other.
"What?" Karen wheeler asked, Oblivious to the fact that calling everyone for a big fat dinner while the town is self destructing isn't exactly a good thing to do. She soon realized but directed the conversation away from it out of embarrassment.
They were finally having a good dinner, up until Max mentioned the fact Will hasn't been picking up on the walkie talkies.
"He hasn't been answering?" Mike says, his voice a little shaky but not enough to sound scared or upset, just shocked and maybe even worried.
"Yeah. Dustin and I kept trying to contact him since we needed some notes about the upside down, but he probably didn't take the walkie talkie with him or something." She added, oblivious to the argument that happened. (Max)
Joyce perks up "Will.. He's in his room, I've checked on him, When he wakes up I'll tell him about the notes." Mike's food suddenly seems like the most interesting thing known to mankind.
The dinner fortunately didn't get more awkward.
After dinner, Mike plopped down in his bed yet again, staring at the ceiling. The others had decided to take advantage of the peaceful moment and chat, catch up, or just enjoy not being hunted down.
Dustin and Lucas came by and asked him if he wanted to go out or play D&D, but he refused since he just felt upset. They couldn't play anyways, they needed their Cleric. And Will was their cleric, but he's not there now, Is he?
his whole day got ruined, all because of a stupid fight with his best friend. Worst part? he has school the next day, so he has to face Will one way or another.
THE NEXT DAY
Mike ended up faking sick and his mom let him stay home, which ended up being both a bad and good decision.
Will actually did notice Mike's absence, and felt worried about it. He went to check on Mike with pizza after school, since Mike seems to love pizza but Mike still also felt horrible.
Will knocked on his bedroom door. "Mike? You there? I uhm... I brought you pizza, extra pepperoni." He said softly.
"Go away! Why are you here anyways? Shouldn't you be mad at me or something?" Mike groaned back.
Will went quiet for a second before just setting down the pizza in front of Mike's bedroom door.
"I'll just leave it here then, I'm not mad at you. At least not Anymore." He muttered before finally leaving the Wheelers' house.
10 minutes later mike came out of his room to check if Will was gone and he saw the pizza.
(No like imagine a stranger things pizza box right and with a chibi drawing of happy Paladin Mike on it in black marker on a white corner)
He stared at it for yet another 5 minutes before taking the box downstairs, heating it up, and eating it. (he took like 25 minutes to do all that plus the trip Will made to bring it there, so It was kinda cold by then)
Mike felt even worse now. I mean, yeah, the pizza sure cheered his stomach up, but not his mind. His mind was still in chaos, torn between being angry at himself, being angry at Will and the others, or just overall feeling horrible about treating will like shit and not knowing how to fix it. His best friend was over here bringing him his favorite food as both an apology and to check on him, and he was still mad about some random argument the day before.
Mid eating pizza like it was alcohol to drown out his worries(Fatass), his family finally came back. And Jonathan apparently.
"Where'd you get that pizza?? You don't have money." Nancy asked, clearly suspicious.
"..Will brought me it." Mike answered flatly. (who has time to sound happy when their best friendship is probably teetering looser than Mr. Whatsit's man titties??)
Karen immediately noticed how flat Mike's voice sounded.
"Are you okay, Mike? Did you like argue with him?" She asked.
"No mom, it's just.. Never mind i'm good, just tired." (Mike)
5 seconds of silence go by.
"I uh, I was planning to go visit Will today. Can I go? I'll be back before evening, I promise." (Mike)
"Sure thing I guess." she replied.
This ends at Mike going to Will's ;)
