Work Text:
The weather has been getting worse lately. It's been starting to get colder and colder, signaling the arrival of winter. It's December after all. On the streets, the outside chill bites Karin's skin harshly, every gulp of oxygen sending cold air into her lungs and exhaling the carbon dioxide out with a plume of air that she could see. The cold air bit her face, her eyes and nose, and all she could do was keep walking and hope the house finally came into her sights.
The snow fell gently on the earth today. The snowflakes fell and stuck onto her long cardigan and hat. Passersby occasionally rushed past her (presumably for their shifts) or they were walking casually.
The journalist sighed in relief once she finally saw the house in her sights. The cold was biting her body, despite wearing layers of clothing, a hat and a scarf with gloves. The first thing she noticed was the smoke pouring out the chimney.
Abella must be home.
The thought immediately brought a pleasant feeling in her. She felt excited to see her, though she was more excited to feel the warmth of a fireplace after a long and cold day at work. Before she knew it, she was speed walking to the front door, her hand reaching for the door handle. She quickly came inside, and immediately, warmth hit her face, making her sigh. She unbuttoned the cardigan and hung it at the doorway, then took the hat off, hanging it next to the cardigan. Next, she pulled down the zipper to her boots. She left the pair next to the other dirty pair of boots smelling like oil — definitely Abella's. The warmth bit her cold skin, the contrast making her shudder as it began to seep in.
Winter was cold, much too cold for her liking. Karin adored her skirts and bomber jacket, not cardigans. No matter how tattered or ripped up her oversized jacket was, she always found a way to fix it. It was… special to her. The winter also made her much more drowsy than usual, maybe because of the short day time, she couldn't focus much on her work because she kept yawning so much.
… And sleep was what she was gonna do. Abella wouldn't be happy to find her working till midnight. She was a sweet woman, but so stubborn and assertive when she wanted to. Karin wanted to avoid a migraine.
The house was small, but comfortable. She hadn't had the luxury of a spacious house ever since Dalia took her from her parents, but she went long enough for her to get used to it. This house — it was home to her. Her eyes were set on the door to her bedroom, and so she walked there, opening the door.
There she was!
The television was turned on, playing the daily news, and across the television, was Abella. She wore pajamas, her hair damp, seemingly washed just a few minutes before Karin arrived home. In an instant, Abella's blue eyes met Karin's and so she smiled wide, “Hej!”
“Hej.” Karin couldn't help but crack a smile. Abella's shoulders carried a blanket and she held a mug in her hands. The journalist walks closer, peering into the mug that was steaming, seeing that there were a few marshmallows floating on the top. Hot chocolate. She was drinking hot chocolate.
“Drinking hot chocolate?” She asks, beginning to pull the turtleneck she wore today over her head.
“Ja. Want some? We can share it; there's enough for both.”
Her voice was always so pleasing and sweet to hear.
“I'm not a big fan, but… sure,” Karin preferred coffee more than anything. She couldn't function properly without it, but it wouldn't hurt to share a mug and a blanket with Abella. “Just let me change first.” She added, reaching behind for the clasps of her bra, then her pants. She wasn't scared of showing her body to Abella: she saw it multiple times before. She reaches for the pajamas folded neatly at the side of the bed, sliding into them with ease.
Abella opened the blanket wrapped around her shoulders, inviting her in. Karin took up the opportunity, sitting down next to her, then felt the blanket envelop her. She scooted until their legs touched. Abella reached for the remote, changing the channel until she found a movie.
“There it is! It aired just now!” Abella beams. Of course. Romance Christmas film. She always loved sappy Christmas films. Typical Abella.
The movie started playing, and so Karin relaxed, thinking she should melt into this puffy, warm blanket. She rests her head onto Abella's shoulder, looking at the screen across from them. It played the movie that Abella was so ecstatic over, the start being as any other film— a zoom out outside the main character's house, Christmas lights flickering with various colors. Karin gently took the cup from the mechanic's hands, taking a sip of the sweet hot chocolate.
The day was beginning to say farewell.
The cup was already finished, sitting on the bedroom drawer, whilst the sun slowly lowered, burning as bright as ever, but blocked by the clouds. The room was dark, only lit up by the TV still playing. The two characters stood in the pouring snowfall, snowflakes resting on their clothing. Each exhale resulted in a plume of white leaving their mouths from the cold, appearing and disintegrating with the air. They looked at eachother with unspoken adoration, it was clear what'll happen in the next scenes.
Abella was fixed on the screen, Karin not so much. She didn't enjoy romance as much as some other genre like mystery… It was always so sappy, a thing that Abella loved. Just as she expected, the two characters kissed. She tried hard not to roll her eyes whilst Abella grinned so hard she was sure her face would hurt. That kiss really got her in a lovey dovey mood, and so she turns to Karin, still grinning.
“Hej, you know what I wanna do? Like right now?” She asks, watching Karin lift her head from her shoulder. She questioned the mechanic with a raise of her eyebrows. It took that little signal for her to lean in, kissing Karin's lips, taking in the way she melted almost instantaneously in it, like ice underneath the blazing sun. It always sent her heart soaring everytime she kissed her.
Another scene showed up, the music changing abruptly, catching the women's attention. Abella pulls away, wetting her lips, catching the subtle sound of Karin's quickened breath. She couldn't help but let a breathless giggle slip, before she turned her attention back to the TV. Her expression changed into something like sadness. “It's ending already?” She asks herself.
“I guess so.” Karin shoots back. She scoffs, “It's ending, so what? You got me in high spirits. Kiss me.”
Abella giggles again. The journalist was demanding when she wanted to, but who was she to say no to her demands? She sighs in faux disappointment, grabbing the TV remote and turning it off. She turns her attention back to Karin, smiling to her in the darkness that shrouded them immediately. It made the atmosphere around them much more exciting. Abella quickly throws her arms around Karin's neck, kissing her and pouring all the love she had for the blonde.
The two fell right back on the bed.
