Chapter Text
“What?”
“Christmas!” Luz repeated, noticing the groups confusion. “You probably called it something else back in the Demon Realm.” She waved a hand vaguely to the side.
The group was in the living room, the four witches sat on the couch, all with similar looks of curiosity, with the human of the squad stood nearby the coffee table in the centre.
Willow seemed to take a moment to think, turning her head away and holding a hand to her chin. After a moment, she brought everyone’s attention to herself by speaking up. “What does… ‘Christmas’ include?” She asked, adding air quotes around the word with her hands.
The group turned to Luz, all waiting for her to answer the question proposed by the plant witch.
“Well, you just, kinda, give presents out to eachother…?” She answered after a moment of hesitance. The human pinched the bridge of her nose, the sigh that she gave slowly transitioning into a groan. “I’m not very good at explaining.”
Most of the group looked down in consideration, the only pair of eyes remaining on her being those of Hunter, who was either waiting for her to continue, or just thinking after deciding not to avert his gaze.
Amity finally broke the silence, speaking up and turning to the other witches she was sat with. “Maybe Luz is right. Maybe it could, I dunno, lighten the mood?” She suggested, gesturing to her girlfriend with a hand.
Gus simply shrugged from his place on the other end of the couch, looking over the pair in between him and Amity to lock eyes with her. “I thought we were trying to build a portal home?” He queried, crossing his arms with a soft frown. That snapped Hunter out of whatever he was thinking about, turning to face the younger.
“I agree with Am.” Willow stated, smiling softly at Gus. “I know we all miss our families, but don’t you think they’d want us to be safe?” She glanced up at the blonde, who was very obviously trying not to get involved. He couldn’t exactly relate to any of them, could he? She joke punched him, her smile widening fondly, her expression forming into one of mischief. “And maybe even have a bit of fun while we’re at it.” She said, voice firm yet sweet.
Hunter blushed slightly at the touch, quickly turning his head away to avoid locking eyes with the girl in question. Gus gave a smirk, mainly at his friends reaction, but also at the idea and the mention of family.
“Alright then,” He finally agreed with a fond smile. He looked up at Luz, crossing his arms across his chest. “What do we have to do?”
Luz pumped her fist slightly, before holding both hands infront of her, with her palms facing inwards. “You guys don’t understand how happy I am about this right now.” She shout whispered. Dropping her hands, she darted around the coffee table, running into the hallway, presumably looking for her mom.
Willow shrugged with a sigh, maybe of relief, maybe of something different, though her expression didn’t show which was right. Amity put her hand on her best friends shoulder, leaning back against the couch cushions as she did so.
The boys, meanwhile, didn’t really move, other than Gus slumping in his seat, arms crossing over his legs.
“I miss my dad.” He muttered quietly to himself after a moment, tone lower than it had been a few minutes prior. Hunter glanced over, twiddling his thumbs in his lap as he considered his words with genuine caution.
“…I know,” He said after a second of hesitation. “But I think Willow’s right.” He smiled softly, looking down. Gus looked up, eyes widening slightly. The blonde elbowed his friend. “Don’t you think your dad would want you to enjoy yourself?”
Gus returned the jokey gesture with his signature grin, one that Hunter hadn’t seen for a very long time. “Thanks, Hunter.” He said.
“No problem, Happy to help.”
