Doctor did not enjoy going to the cinema. It was simply impossible for him to sit still when events that he had no connection to unfolded on the screen. Especially interesting events that beckoned him to jump back into the TARDIS and rush off to Somewhere and Sometime, where something dangerous, exciting, complex and real was happening. Doctor especially disliked films about space. Well, what else was there that he didn't already see? Wars, rescues, ships, star systems, and real action everywhere.
In short, the decision to go to the cinema came up from a nagging feeling of boredom. Cause why go where he would never have gone in a million years, if not for the sake of experiment.

The console flashed a green light that ran in a circle. The search radar was tuned to damaged ships in lonely space.
For the first time, the Doctor regretted that the TARDIS did not have a supply of napkins.
