Christmas Without You

Summary:

The same song was still on when Jakob opened the front door and walked into the house. He could almost immediately hear the song, which he knew was one of your favorites, and followed it into the kitchen after taking off his boots and jacket. Once he entered the room, he saw you in your pathetic state.
"Hey.. What's wrong?"
he asked as he approached you just as you took another sip of the drink.
"I love this song,"
you almost sobbed and handed Jakob a piece of the gingerbread dough.

Notes:

"Wherever you go, you light up the room
I hope that you'll make it back home soon
'Cause it won't feel like Christmas without you"

I don't even know about this one. I had this clear idea, but in the end couldn't do a whole lot with it.
I don't think I like this one all that much, actually. I got something a little nicer for tomorrow.
Still, happy Freppa Friday! I think I might also post another fic later today.

Work Text:

The way too short moments of light were being forced away by the darkness that was creeping in. It wasn't currently snowing, but if you were to look outside, you would see white covering the quiet, peaceful streets no matter where you turned your head to. It was peaceful, but you failed to properly feel the tranquility. You had put on your Christmas playlist on Spotify, and by the time you heard the first few seconds of Christmas Without You by Ava Max, you had wandered into the kitchen, opened a carton of glögi and drank it cold. Normally you would have poured it into a mug first so you could have warmed it up in the microwave, but now you couldn't even bother with that. You also walked to the fridge and tore a few pieces of gingerbread dough from its packaging so you could eat it raw. You were feeling absolutely miserable and you couldn't even quite say why that was. Talk about the Christmastime blues.

He accepted it, put it in his mouth and then pulled you closer after you'd set the almost half-empty carton on the table. He didn't laugh at your silly reason for crying and instead simply embraced you. You rested your head on his chest and focused on how his arms felt around you. He made you feel safe. With him there, you were able to take a proper deep, if still shaky breath.
"Sorry,"
you mumbled and could feel Jakob shake his head a little, implying that there was nothing to be sorry about.
"Why don't we go sit down for a little while?"
he then suggested, instead. You could only nod and broke away from him to grab the rest of the gingerbread dough from the fridge.

Only moments later both of you were sitting on the couch, comfortably leaning against each other and snacking on gingerbread dough. It was better like that, anyway. Better than the baked cookies.
"Feeling better?"
Jakob asked, his voice nice and quiet. You nodded and even managed to smile a little.
