Work Text:
Everyone was having a good time hanging out around the base. That was until Morro came bursting in, which usually doesn’t mean anything good. At least we knew it wasn’t Garmadon coming to attack the city.
“Do you guys want to do a haunted house!” they asked, holding out there phone. It was too far away so I couldn’t make out what exactly was on the screen.
“Absolutely not!” Jay yelped hiding behind Cole.
“I don’t think that will be a good idea,” Zane said.
“Yeah, I don’t think that will go well,” Nya agreed with Zane.
“Well too bad! I bought us tickets already and I’m not wasting my money,” Morro replied.
“Morro think about this,” I said trying to deescalate the situation.
“I did, and we’re going.”
“Morro no.”
After probably one of the worst car rides I’ve had, which mostly consisted of Jay screaming and then him getting carsick, we arrived at the haunted house that Morro had gotten us tickets for. Kai and I were the last to get out. Everyone had already started walking towards the building.
“This is not going to end well,” I whispered to Kai who grabbed my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. I smiled.
“We’ll see what happens,” Kai smiled back at me. We stared at each other like that for a while. It had been just a little bit since we had first started dating and showing each other affection was still embarrassing and awkward.
“Are you lovebirds coming or not? Most of us,” Morro glared at Jay who was being carried by Cole inside, “are already inside!”
“We’re coming alright! Give us a moment!” Kai yelled at Morro, making me laugh, “I swear one day I’m going to get him back.”
“C’mon we better get going inside,” I said wrapping my arms around Kai’s neck. I didn’t really know what I was doing, this stuff was still pretty new to me. I was just trying to do what felt right.
“Yeah we should, justtttt after one thing,” Kai replied.
“Wha—” before I knew it Kai was kissing me, “that’s not fair!”
“Hey lovebirds! Get in here!” Morro yelled at us.
“We’re coming!” Kai and I said in unison.
“Jinx!” Kai replied.
“Oh c’mon,” I started walking to the building.
“Okay everyone’s here now,” Morro acknowledged once Kai and I were inside. He started talking with the person working there and soon we were walking up a dimly lit stair case.
“Jay come up here,” Nya beckoned him, she was more in front in the group. Jay was currently at the very back of our group clinging onto Cole.
“You’re less likely to get scared,” Nya explained. At that Jay decided to move towards the front. We all stopped so that we could reorganize where we were standing. Cole was still standing in front of him but other than that he was still pretty much in front.
“Are you planning on jump scaring him to death,” Morro teased.
“Morro,” I glared at him.
“What?” Morro laughed. We had finally made it up the stairs and were walking inside. It was a bit scary walking through the dark room knowing that at some point we were going to be scared. We all grabbed each other’s hands so that we wouldn’t lose each other in the darkness. Jay had his arms wrapped Cole’s waist and his face buried in Cole’s back. The first scare wasn’t that bad, just someone jumping out in front of us while wearing a scary costume. We all laughed it off afterwords. The rooms got scarier as we got through them and the scare actors started doing more. We ended up being chased at some point.
“I don’t think that Zane is scared,” I whispered to Kai at some point.
“What makes you say that,” Kai laughed, he was definitely thinking the same thing I was. He was standing closer to Zane after all.
“He’s just been saying the word ‘ah’ every time something happens,” I replied.
“That’s just how he yells,” Kai explained.
“Really?” I questioned, highly doubting Kai’s explanation.
“No, I’m being completely serious. It’s that and just random beeping noises, but that’s just how he is.”
“Oh, now I kind of feel bad.”
“Don’t, it is a bit weird. Don’t tell anyone I said that though.”
The scariest part was probably Morro’s maniacal laughter. If you thought that Zane’s reaction to being scared was weird then you should hear Morro’s. At some point he had just started laughing. To others it would seem like he thought this whole thing was funny, but I know that something had scared him. Morro laughs when they get scared. It took me a while to figure that out.
“Are you scared?” I smirked looking back at Morro, I could barely see him due to how dark it is in here.
“What makes you think that I’m scared,” Morro laughed.
“I’m your cousin, why wouldn’t I know how you act when you’re scared,” I replied.
“Does it look like I’m scared? When have I done something that could possibly make it look like I am scared?” Morro laughed, the laugh was definitely just a bit creepy in the darkness.
“That doesn’t convince me that you’re not scared,” I replied.
“You’re scared too, I’ve seen you jump in fear. You also screamed at some point. Oh, and don’t think just because it’s dark I didn’t see you acting scared just to snuggle up close to Kai,” Morro teased, I could feel my face flush at his words. I’d be fine if I just had to admit that I was scared, I’m not embarrassed by that, but I truly thought that no one would notice me and Kai.
“Fine I won’t care about you,” I muttered as I looked away from Morro and glanced up at Kai who just shrugged at me. I grabbed his arm and leaned into it, at this point I really didn’t care if Morro noticed us or not.
The rest of the haunted house was fine. I think the parts where we were being chased down was probably the scariest. Everyone, except Jay, had a pretty good time, but if Morro ever brings up haunted houses again we are definitely not going.
