Fair Trade

Summary:

The Oceanic Empire laid waste to those who defied the rule of their Empress, Lady Elizabeth Umbra.

To repay her brother for leading her armies, the Empress arranges a marriage with the most powerful of their defeated enemies, the Kingdom of Rivendell.

To secure her brother a partner whose longevity would match his own, or to further humiliate her sworn enemies, remains to be seen.

Merry Christmas!!

Sorry for the long wait - the Inside of my head refused to cooperate, and I had severe writer's block.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

The known world had seen many kings and queens, emperors and their empresses, and even a few democratic governments over the millenia of her life, but none of the rulers of history had a legacy even remotely close to that of the Oceanic Empire.

High Empress and Supreme Goddess Lady Elizabeth Umbra of the Ocean and Her Seven Seas had determined early in her reign that she would go down as the only ruler in history to conquer the entirety of the ocean she held divine dominion over. She saw it as her very birthright, and she would hear nothing of mercy or grace. She expanded the Empire’s borders beyond anything anyone thought possible with a fiery temper and cutthroat rage unstoppable by mortal means and devices.

The other Twelve rulers of the world met her advances head-on, sending armies and mages and warriors to stop her from laying claim to every water port and trade city she could lay hands on.

Most regretted it. Empress Elizabeth ordered the vicious backlash be led by her only family, Crown Prince James Timothy Solidarity himself, the High Empress’s Heir Apparent and Commanding General of Her Imperial Armies. His control of the sea backed by a divine heritage shared with his sister allowed for a bloody slaughter that resulted in exactly what the Ocean Empress craved - complete and total control of her beloved ocean territory.

Jimmy personally delivered the bloodied swords, crowns, and banners to his sister, and along with them the right to rule any and all water connected to the ocean. He sank armadas, sent tsunamis, and engaged in hand-to-hand combat with fairies and the Clay and vampires and anyone else who stood in his way, all in the name of the Empress he served with an undying loyalty etched into his every action. He was her hound, her sword, her whip - no corner of the globe was free from his swathe of annihilation.

The Holy Kingdom of Rivendell was the last of the Twelve to stand her ground against the Empress's insurmountable will, and the Kingdom of Rivendell was the last to fall.

And fall she did.

The god-blessed kingdom resided in the north, protecting the icy glaciers and frozen wastelands infamous for sudden snowstorms and crippling blizzards sent by the patron gods of the elves, Aeor and Exor. Her extensive coast bordered the entirety of the Oceanic Empire's northern seas.

The Ocean Goddess demanded the land her precious ocean touched, as she had with all the other Twelve.

Rivendell refused. Elves were notoriously stubborn, and they put up a good fight against Jimmy and his men. The elves commanded divine control over ice and snow, and Jimmy suffered through more than a few wicked blizzards summoned by the Aeor- and Exor-blessed.

In the end, Empress Elizabeth left her underwater palace to personally hand over total and complete defeat on a battlefield slew with the frozen bodies of her elven opponents. The Empress rarely stepped foot on the mainland continents, but when she did, she brought the full rage of the Seven Seas with her. She turned the ice and snow against their wielders, for the saltwater in the very air could not deny its true master.

The elves never stood a chance, and the Supreme Goddess became the sovereign ruler of the Seven Seas.
