Chapter Text
Evernight hadn't wanted everything to happen like this. For all the harm she was aware she caused on a daily basis, she had never wanted her beloved to see her like this. March was never supposed to find out about her…more manic tendencies. She was never planning to reveal this to March, but things had gone awry once more. It wasn't her fault, okay? But that man had been getting far too close to March for her tastes. Besides, she'd been meaning to get some new cuts of meat anyways, even if they came from less than savory sources. Evernight would rather have selected her food better, but she wouldn't complain about someone giving her the perfect excuse. She had bigger problems to deal with anyways.
She turned to look at her beloved, her precious March. What she found was a sight both horrifying and more precious to her than anything. March, trembling in fear as she backed further into the alleyway they were in. Evernight almost relished in the sight, but she didn't want March to be backing away from her anymore. So, as reluctant as she was to abandon her kill even if it was only temporary, she dropped the mans corpse and stepped over it. She walked towards her love as March kept backing away from her, right up until her back hit the wall of the alley. Even cornered though, she was still searching for an escape. But Evernight wasn't exactly about to let her run now. Not when she was finally within her grasp. After years of watching from the shadows, silently protecting her beloved, Evernight had her chance to reveal herself and to finally become one with March.
Evernight leaned in close to March, getting in as close as she could. The two were almost sharing breath with how she invaded the others space. In a voice so very reminiscent to March's, and yet more unsettling somehow, she spoke softly.
"March, my dearest, what's wrong? Not happy to see me?♭"
March shrank back further, seeking a way out of this situation but finding no escape. Evernight chuckled as she tried to retreat more, shoving herself back against the brick. She knew March would never be able to run from her now. Not when all she had ever wanted was finally right in front of her. No more silent watching, waiting, and protecting from the shadows. March would finally be with her, no matter what way was needed to keep her there.
All she needed to do now was to take her beloved with her. Of course, she wasn't about to leave her fresh meal behind either, but she had her priorities. She wasn't going to leave March behind where she would be so very exposed, unprotected and free from Evernight's embrace. She needed to protect her, to keep her beloved bound to her forevermore. Reaching out her arms, she embraced her beloved as tightly as she could, clinging on to March with all her strength.
"Darling? We should go now, waiting too long here would be disastrous .♭"
She stepped back from the hug, still not letting go of March entirely, but giving the shaking girl a moment to breathe. Her hands remained clasped around March's arm, pulling her away from the wall. At the sudden movement, her eyes snapped towards Evernight, pupils shrinking to pinpoints in her terror.
"You killed that man?!" She shrieked, trembling and finally trying to pull away from Evernight. But Evernight's grip on her was ironclad, refusing to break even with all of March's struggling. Evernight grin pulled tighter on her face, becoming something so loving and vicious as she laughed and tugged March closer to her.
"But of course I did my darling. He was far too close to you for my liking. Besides, who needs this guy anyways?♭" She glanced at the body with disdain, kicking at it. "It's a shame, really. That this guy couldn't be better at, well, everything I suppose. Too bad for him, he picked the wrong night to get on my nerves. But my darling, who really cares? Why would he even be relevant when you're right here? ♭"
Evernight looked back over to March, smile reclaiming her face. Her beloved's struggle had slowed at this point, exhaustion and fear consuming her. It was a sight so very beautiful, the one she loved so much allowing her to be in control of everything right now. But as alluring as the sight was to her, time was not on her side. The corpse would start to go bad if she didn't preserve it soon, and she needed to ensure that March wouldn't escape her grasp while she worked. In a voice sweet as honey and just as trapping she spoke.
"Darling, should I just go ahead and bring you home, or will you behave and we can bring the food home together?♭"
"…The food? What do you mean by that?" Confusion laced March's voice, intertwining with fear.
She laughed, head tilted back in amusement. "Oh my dear March, our food! You know, the thing we're going to eat?♭" She released one of her hands, gesturing towards the corpse on the ground. "I know its not the best quality, but I'll make do. In any case, I have to bring it home with us. Shall I bring you first and come back, or will you wait patiently?♭"
March shook her head violently, refusing to speak again. Evernight waited, sighing when March continued to not respond. At the continued silence, she made her choice.
"I suppose I'll just bring you home now then. I'll come back later to clean all this up.♭"
She tugged on March's wrists, turning as she began to walk out of the alleyway. To her surprise and delight, she followed behind without much resistance. Evernight gleefully tugged her along, dropping her wrist and lacing their fingers together, holding tight as March was led behind her. The pair walked quickly with Evernight in the lead. As they walked down the main road, Evernight looked back at her beloved, smiling widely at her.
"I'm so excited to finally have you with me my love! It's all I've ever wanted for the two of us!♭"
March swallowed grimly, nodding her head slowly. But the fear was still something Evernight took pleasure in. After all, her beloved's attention was finally on her, and only her forevermore.
