Death to Lorry!

Summary:

Thirteen-year-old Kal stumbles upon a scene and attacks the previous Fifth Talon. Things take a turn.

Work Text:

Kal stares at Viago, watching as he speaks with Lorezno, the bastard. No one gets to speak to Viago like that. No one. Especially not after pushing Esha to her limit and complaining as she’s lying there on the floor that she’s never going to live up to the de Riva name like that. Viago should have just let him kill the prick. It would be so much better for them all.

He watches with hard eyes as Lorenzo jabs a finger into Viago’s shoulder. Kal’s electricity buzzes at his skin. No one gets to treat his family like this. No one! Kal brings his lightning to his hand, staring down the man across the hall.

“Kalias.” Viago warns without even looking at him. That’s not going to stop him! He waits, watching to see if Lorenzo is going to continue his selection of terrible life choices. The idiot of a Talon does not make better choices.

Kal’s launched from his spot, his electrified hand wrapping around the man’s throat and slamming him into the nearest surface. Kal’s magically reinforced blows do their job, hurting the idiot more and more with each strike. He moves to land a killing blow, only for a much larger body to grab his arm, stopping him.

“Kalias! What did I just tell you?!” There’s a hint of fear in Viago’s voice. Viago shouldn’t be afraid. Viago should never be afraid.

He simply blinks at Viago. Kal’s not sure why Viago’s angry. What’s he supposed to do if not protect his family?

Viago sighs, tossing him aside. “Go wait in your room. I’ll deal with you once I ensure the Fifth Talon’s safety.” He’s not sure why he’s not being praised. He protected his family. That’s what matters, right? "Kalias.” There’s a dangerous edge to his tone that Kal knows better than to cross right now.

As much as he doesn’t want to, Kal walks off to be anywhere else. “Kal? Who shit in your cake?”

Aloe! She’ll understand him! “Viago wouldn’t let me kill Lorenzo.” She freezes in her tracks.

“And why were you trying to kill the Fifith Talon, dumbass? You know you shouldn’t touch a Talon!” She slaps the back of his head. “You know you can be killed for that!”

“He was being mean to Esha and wouldn’t let Viago do anything.”

Aloe seems conflicted. “Kal. We all know Lorenzo’s an asshole, but you can’t just try to kill your superiors.”

“If they’re an asshole then they shouldn’t be in charge.” Kal mutters. “’Sides. Would’ve been easy for everyone if Viago had just let me kill him.”

“Kalias de Riva! I told you to wait in your room.” Tch. Fine. Viago wants him to wait he’ll wait.

“Kal?” Oh, it’s Esha. Wonder what she wants? Kal takes a look at his sister. She’s got a broken arm and a bruise across half her face from Lorenzo’s training. He’s pretty sure he can see her limping, too. He’s going to kill Lorenzo when he gets the chance!

“Esha. Why aren’t you with the healers?”

“They’re a bit busy at the moment.” She shuffles, playing with her hair with her unhindered arm. ”I know Viago grounded you for the foreseeable future,  but I… I wanted to thank you. Lorenzo’s been getting tougher and tougher on me in preparation of my first contract, so…”

Kal blinks. “I can still go back and kill him if you want me to.”

Esha smirks. “Kal, no. I appreciate the thought but if you do anything more right now, Viago might actually kill you.”

“Eshari. Go to my office. I’ll speak with you when I’m finished with Kalias.” Esha shuffles off, leaving him with Viago. He seems tired, even with his espresso, but he waits for Esha to be gone before he speaks. “Kalias de Riva. What exactly were you thinking?!”

“Lore-dick was being an asshole and hurting you. No one gets to do that.” Magic sparks across his skin, but that’s okay. Not like it’s going to hurt anyone like this.

Viago sighs. “I suppose I should be grateful you didn’t kill him outright.” Viago takes a moment to consider. “Do you have any idea the damage you’ve caused? The Fifth Talon is permanently disfigured and disabled. He’s already put in for a contract on his life. Do you have any idea what could happen if the wrong person takes over?” Kal shrugs. Doesn’t really matter to him. Someone tires to hurt him or his family and he’s just going to kill them. “Kalias. You have the potential to be a great asset, I just wish you’d use your brain sometimes.”

Kal simply blinks at him, looking up at the much taller man. Viago glares at him for a few moments before he finally speaks up again. “You’re to stay here until further notice. I have some things to deal with. Don’t. Do. Anything.” Viago stalks out.

Damn. Why’s he gotta stay here like this?

Kal lounges, watching the ceremony before them with his sisters at his sides. He supposes it would have been reasonable for Viago to become Fifth Talon, but it’s not like Kal cares all that much. Well, at least Kal won’t have to kill him for hurting his family.

Kal smirks. Viago deserves this, even if it’s been weeks and Kal’s still stuck in his room.
